my girls' appetites have SUCKED lately. they hardly eat. they don't like anything. (what kid doesn't like grilled cheese? ) they're just eating SO MUCH less than they were before.
    is this yet another phase?
is there something i should be doing differently?

p.s. they prefer to eat everything independently now, and they will eat more that way, but still not enough

p.p.s. i don't keep throwing things on their tray hoping they'll eat something. if they won't eat what i have on the menu for that meal, they don't eat.

    p.p.p.s. is it p.p.p.s. or p.s.s.s.? i think it's p.p.p.s....

I always tell myself, that as long as they are healthy, if they are hungry enough they will eat. My girls have also had appetite peaks and valleys, but I try not to worry too much about it.

It is frustrating...mine go through phases where they will eat everything that is not nailed down and then the phase where nothing is appealing. I figure mine are pretty good at letting me know when they are hungry or not and I just got to be patient with them (which is very hard for me to do at times!)

Most kids don't eat as much once they are well into the toddler stage. My kids ate a lot more at 1 year than they did at 2 or 3. Now that they're almost 4, their appetite is starting to pick up again, a little.

In a book I read recently, the author was saying someone was "living on noodles and air like a 3-year-old." So true! But it starts earlier than age 3. Try not to stress about it, as long as they seem healthy and happy and aren't actually losing weight.

Try not to stress out about it. Mine don't always eat the same amount every day. Our pedi said as long as they get one good meal a day and lots of water they will be fine.

My boys seem to be doing the same thing lately. They have no appetite and barely eat anything we serve. I also *hope* this is just a phase and I'm with you- I'm getting sick of all the phases! I think what you're doing is great, though- if they don't eat what you're serving, they don't eat!

    Oh, and I think it's p.p.s, too! :)

I feel the same way as everyone else. There are times when my boys eat and times when they don't. I just keep doing what I'm doing, and they can decide if they are hungry enough to eat!!

:gah: This is a phase that is still going on here. But it goes up and down. Some weeks they eat like beasts and then other weeks like birds. :pardon: As long as they are healthy and growing, they are good. :good: Plus, I think we make their portions bigger then they need to be. (Or at least I think I do it.)

That sounds normal for their age. It will get better in time. Try not to stress over it. If they're hungry they'll eat.

I'm taking a developmental psychology course right now and it just covered toddlerhood. It said that during toddlerhood, kids eat less because their rate of growth is (naturally and normally) reduced compared to infancy. It's still frustrating, but it's normal.
