Ok, so I stepped out with one of my twins (baby girl) to run an errand and left my other twin (baby boy) and my ds who is 2 yrs at home with daddy...the boys were taking a nap. Well, when I got home my dh was furious with me saying where were you, and that our baby boy had a blanket over his face and he was soo red in the face that it almost looked purple. Before I left the house I put a light thermal blanket over the lower half of his body b/c it was a little cold...but I didn't think to tuck it in around his bum because I knew I wouldn't be gone that long. Sure enough it was pretty much suffocating him. If it wasn't for my ds to wake up and wake my dh up he never would've of heard the baby b/c his cry sounded so muffled under the blanket....and our sound machine was off. I feel like such a terrible mom and I can't stop thinking about what if something would've happened. Can a little suffocation do anything to the brain??? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm really freaked out right now.

    Thanks mamas

p.s. has this happened to anyone else before??

I'm sorry this happened. :( I'm not sure if him being red in the face could indicate anything, maybe a call to your pedi would ease your mind. :hug99:

Yah, that's exactly what I'm thinking is that he was really red in the face b/c of being warm and crying his lil face off...poor guy! I actually put the blanket over me and it was breathable b/c it was light thermal blanket, BUT still I feel like such a bad bad mom right now :(

He was probably a little warm, but otherwise fine. Things like that happen to all of us at one time or another. I think I'd be more upset with my DH for being ugly about it. Please don't feel bad. :hug99:

:hug99: Awww, Please dont feel bad! You are not a bad mom. You thought you were doing the right thing by keeping your son warm it was a mistake. If you know that was going to happen you would not have done it. Something similar happened to me like that, I laid DS on his side and propped a bottle with a receiving blanket under it. I went to the bathroom came right back and he had the blanket over his eyes and nose. I lifted the blanket in a panic and he started laughing like I was playing a game of peek a boo or something. My twins love to grab soft things and rub it on their face so when they sleep I can't leave any blankets or anything around them, they can't even sleep with a bib on. Every mom has a moment when they feel like a bad mommy, hang in there.

He is most likely fine my dd wants a blanket over her face and has since she was 3 months old. She always gets red rosey cheeks from being warm. My dh gets very worked up over little things that do not bother me.

I'm sure your DH reacted bad because he is probably like my DH and is still unsure with things, and the baby being red probably scared him. It sounds to me like your son was red from being hot and crying. I would't feel bad, we all have those moments at some point when you make a mistake and when you think of the worst case senario it makes you feel like the worst mom ever. I highly doubt having a blanket over his face did anything to your son.....try not to beat yourself up over it....I'm sure your a wonderful mother!!!

Oh goodness!!!!! How incredibly scary! So sorry DH made you feel so badly on top of everything! I agree w/ all the other moms, he was probably red due to the crying. My guys get so red in the face when they're upset! Try not to let it get to you, everyone's ok, and that's all that matters!!
