I just logged on to TS (have been MIA for quite awhile) and found this new forum. Looking forward to learning what others are doing! And looking forward to starting the twins officially this Fall. More about that later. [IMG]

Welcome to our small corner of the forums. I get to officially start my twins this school year too. It will be a much harder transition for them, than it was for my daughter who had been going to school until I pulled her. These guys are used to being able to play all day.

Hi Rebecca, fun to see you in this forum!

I do such light formal schoolwork in the 4-5 yo stage that it really eases them into school. And at that age, most of mine have loved work sheets and activities that it's easy to work with them. Adam has just finished kindergarten and all of our reading has been informally done, and he reads at a good solid 2nd grade level. His standardized test scores just came back and he's 90th percentile and above on everything. The only thing that actually looks like school that we've done with him has been math (Math U See). Science, history, social studies and even reading were all done through living life and doing "fun" activities. Oh, he does do handwriting (Getty and Dubay Italics), too. But not super often. I want to be better about that, actually, as his handwriting leaves MUCH to be desired.

My DD is starting first grade this year, and I am a little nervous, as I will have to keep better track of everything, and make sure she is really learning her stuff. I am glad I have her to practice on, as I can imagine it will be a little harder teaching two (the same age) at once. Good luck with this year!

Just found this forum and am really glad to see this here!! I am going to be homeschooling a first grader this year. My biggest concern is doing so while having two fussy newborns to deal with! We've already started to ease back into it but are pretty lax about it. I've been needing to give her many 'breaks' so I can tend to the babies. It's HARD! But I am looking forward to another year of homeschooling my eldest!

I have not homeschooled in over 2 years now, but I'll definitely be checking this forum out. I would love to homeschool, but probably won't consider it for another few years. However, I like reading about curriculum choices and tips any of you have to offer. Good luck this coming school year!

I am so glad to see this subforum! I started Kindergarten with DD1 earlier in July (we are doing year-round scheduling). I absolutely love it, and so does she. We were supposed to have a vacation day Thursday, but she popped out of bed and said "can we start with History today?"
