I'm confused

Okay so we potty trained over christmas. The girls (2 next week) tell us they need to go potty, sit very good and pee every time. We sent them to daycare on Monday in underwear. As expected we had quite a few changes of clothes. I figured that might happen.

Today though their teacher told us that we should put them back in diapers, because they were having to many accidents (like 3 each I think for the whole day) But here' the catch: Teacher said if they're in underwear, they pee everywhere. If they put diapers on them, then they'll be bone dry and pee on the toilet. I had to take them to the Dr. today so I asked for them to be put in diapers when I picked them up. They were put in them at 1 p.m. They did not go to the bathroom until 3:15 (we were still at the Dr's) we got home at 4:30 and they went pee again. Well wouldn't ya know that their diapers were BOTH bone dry?? From 1 p.m. they held it for over 2 hours, than another 1.5 hours.

But yet daycare says they're not ready to wear undies?? What's your take? I (as well as DH) think that maybe my girls are TRYING to tell them they need to pee, but they're not being listened to. What do you think?? Did your kids go through a period like that with lots of accidents at school shortly after being potty trained??

If they are keeping their diapers dry, instead of those I would put them in pull ups. Easier for them to pull up and down... also has the cool alert with them.

I think they are doing great and I think they are scared/uncomfortable to tell the teacher at school!! At home, they know the drill and they are comfortable letting you know they need to go! I agree with other poster that they should go to school in pull-ups for now. At home, keep them in their undies and praise them for their great job! They then can work on letting their teachers know they need to go and learn the procedures for at school. I hope that it is not that the school is unattentive- but you could be right on that as well????
I can only imagine how difficult it would be at school to deal with many potty training toddlers and cleaning them up after accidents. I think Pull-ups would make their job easier.

Oh, I agree Pull-ups would make the teachers job easier. Potty training 2 was hard, I can imagine a room full of 20+ 2 yr olds trying to PT....

I sort of agree with the teacher and sort of don't. I don't want to confuse them by putting diapers (pull ups) on them for daycare, and undies at home. It was going so well before they went back to school.....

if they are scared/uncomfortable telling their teachers, how do we work with them to get them TO tell their teachers?? I was telling them tonite, "make sure to tell Ms. so-and-so that you need to go potty tomorrow. Tell her, "I got to go potty".. They would repeat back the "I got to go potty" part and then the teachers name, but I really don't know if they truly understand what I'm talking about. They KNOW what "go potty' means cuz they say it every ime before they go. They also tell me, "I'm going potty" while they're sitting on the toilet and peeing, so I think they understand that as well.

And the teacher said she was taking them every 30 minutes, just that they kept 'missing' when the girls needed to go.

I'm a little reluctant to believe that they were getting on the potty every 30 min. with 3 accidents each! BUT...I'm not a teacher and maybe it's misguided belief - but if they can hold it for 3 hrs. to go to the doctor and home etc., then the teachers might be applying some kind of pressure that's got them flustered or something. It doesn't make sense, I think you are correct in being confused. I have no idea what the answer is, if you figure it out - let us know!!!

mine do the same thing - Abby will tell me she has to pee (she's been in pull ups for forever now) and will tell them at school she has to pee but the minute you put her in panties she pees ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF THE POTTY! I don't know if the cotton feels "different" or if she dosen't think anything is there but my DD does the same thing...we've tried panties once and it was a disaster!

oh and unless they ask the daycare only puts them on the potty twice a day

The teachers will normally take them every 2 hours (except at naptime) unless they ask. If they ask, I'm told that they will be taken directly to the potty. But I had a discussion yesterday with their teacher, and she assured me that they were taking my girls every 30 minutes becuase of the accidents....

I don't know if I just need to stay there for the day and observe HOW they take them to the potty, what they say, etc. or what. I just have a really hard time believing that they'd have anything but poop accidents.

I know they just started really using the potty, but as PP said, if they can hold it for 2 hours at the Dr.'s, have demonstrated being able to hold it for just as long at home while being preoccupied (gma and gpa came on friday, so gift giving was a long time, toy playing, etc) then why can't they do the same at school?

One thing I did notice over the weekend, we were doing some work in the dining room while they played with Gma and Gpa in the living room. One got mad that we weren't paying enough attention to her, so she peed in the living room. We put a diaper on her but know that it was a direct result of her being mad at us and nothing more.

I put diapers on them this morning, but am going to the daycare at lunch to talk to them and the director to see what's going on and what to do. I don't mind having to wash clothes every night if I have to, until they figure out what to do. I think the Teachers just want what's easiest for them. That's fine, but it's not always what's best for the babies, or even easiest for the parents either.....

We had to do this for my potty trained DD, and it did not confuse her at all. She wore pull ups at daycare for like 2 months, underwear all the rest of the time.
