Hey all, I'm back online, finally! We just moved to our first air force base (DH is in AF) and we are finally starting to get situated, unpacked and have our internet up. YAY! Onto some questions I have... DD...eats weird. At least once a day, and sometimes more, if you hold her to feed her, she acts like she doesn't really want to eat. She will turn her head to the side, just until she loses suction, but then comes right back to suck again. I know she's hungry and does want to eat, and sometimes she won't start this until she's half done, other times from the beginning of the bottle. It seems she eats much better sitting in her bouncer and with the bottle propped, usually...which is how I feed them when I'm alone (all day, and for the entire first 3 months when I was home alone with them). It almost just seems like she's wanting to look around a lot, but she'll just turn until she loses that suction, and then turn back for more, like every 5-6 sucks, sometimes a few more. I don't think it's the nipple, cause she was doing it even worse with a 1, and when we switched her to 2s she's done fine with them, and it was a lot better for the most part, and she's started doing it more again, now. Also, they eat every 3 hours, 5 bottles a day, 6 oz for first and last bottles, 5 oz for the rest. They have been eating this every 3 hours for weeks...but lately they sometimes start fussing and crying at 2 1/2 hours! It's time consuming as it is going every 3 hours, and really don't want to do 2 1/2...I hold them out until 3 hrs...does anyone know whats up with this and why they might be doing that? I can't really up their morning bottle (and it's generally the 2nd bottle, most, this happens)...Evann spit a little of it up this morning as it was...and he is NOT a spitter at all (only if he eats too much). I'm really not sure what is up with them...
It sounds like they might be going through a growth spurt. I would feed every 2.5 hours if that's what they need. It's just a short period of time that growth spurts last  . It sounds like phases where DD will be distracted when eating. I say feed her the way that is easiest for you and safest for her. DS may just being going through a period of spit up. This is normal for 4 month olds. Does he seem gassy? If so, Mylicon will help and that may be what is causing spit up. I'm sure you'll get lots of great advice here. Hang in there  .
I agree with Pamela about the possible growth spurt. If they are hungry, I would just feed them. They wont eat every 2.5 hours much longer. As for the distraction issue, that is very common. Try feeding them in the nursery or dim the lights and turn the TV off (if its on) and see if that helps.
I swear when I started reading your questions I looked back twiece to see it wasn't me posting this question!! I would have used the exact same words! My ds is the one doing this..a few days later (and tons of nipple/bottle changes to see what works or what it was), I changed to #3 nipple and also realized when he turns his head he is just not interested in the bottle..sometimes it is because he is not hungry, other times he is distracted, smiling,etc..so I wait a few mintues and then he takes it. My dr. recommend when possible, holding out until he is more hungry, otherwise they become nibblers. So much for feeding them at the same time... my dd is like clockwork...
Hi Ashli, what you are describing sounds alot like my boys these days. They are teething. Do your little ones try to chew on the nipple? That's how I first knew it was teething. My guys started earlier than yours, but that's because my kids teethe early... Connor got his first tooth at 4.5 months. Most people notice teething starting at 4-5 months and the first teeth appear around 7 months. Anyway, the symptoms that my sons have are stuffy noses and alot of spit up. The spit up has alot of drool in it. Good luck in figuring things out. Also, you are amazing that you were able to move with 2 babies! And so close to the holidays! You go, girl!

I do think my DD may be starting to teethe a bit, well both of them actually, but only once has DD screamed and wouldn't stop until we gave her tylenol. She doesn't chew the nipple though...Evann does when he's full and the bottle is still in his mouth, but she doesn't. But I guess it could be that she is not as hungry...though sometimes she is starting to fuss and all, wanting that bottle. Thanks for the feedback!
