I was wondering if because you have twins does the hospital usually put you into a private room? and is it very likely for me to go full term? Right now everyone says how small I am but the Dr said that I am just tall and if I was having one baby I would be 29 weeks not 24 weeks..And does anyone Know if there is any way I can find out if the girls are identical or not while preg or after?

Welcome to TS! And congratulations on your twin girls!!

My hospital only has private rooms in the maternity ward. I would check with your hospital, do a tour, something to find out what they do there.

As for full term, that really varies from pregnancy to pregnancy. I went to about 37 1/2 weeks with the twins (A week before I was scheduled to have a c/s). There are so many factors that can affect that, so it is hard to say yes...you will go full term.

You can definitely do a DNA test after they are born to determine if they are ID or Frat. I am not sure about testing before they are born (as mine are b/g twins...it never became an issue for us).

Take a look around the site, I am sure you will get a lot of answers to your questions here. And tons of support!!

Congratulations! I'd check with the hospital on rooms. Ours only had private rooms.

Both hospitals in my area only have private rooms in Maternity. At the hospital that I delivered the twins, they have some bigger rooms that they usually give to the twin moms. I got one but I had to wait about a 1/2 day until the previous mom was discharged. It was really nice having such a big room.

I think that most hospitals have private OB rooms but I would call for a tour as it is nice to know ahead of time where to go and what to expect. As the others said, there are so many factors that come into play on whether or not you will go full term. My peri told me he won't let me go past 36 weeks as mine are mono-di. I'm assuming yours are di-di? Mono-di and mono-mono are identical but di-di could also be identical. An amnio would be able to tell whether they are identical but it is a risky procedure so they only do those if there is a medical need. I have a friend who had di-di girls and they looked nothing alike when they were born but now at 6 months they look identical. Good luck, I am 27 weeks and growing by the day!!

Congrats and welcome to Twinstuff!

The hospitals around here now have all private rooms, but when I was preggo with my twins the hospital I went to did not, and I did not get a private room just for being pregnant with twins. The hospital does not care about that. It would depend on if there were any private rooms available.

Congratulations on your twins!! The hospital I delivered at had private rooms, which was great, but they only delivered twins in the OR, regardless of a c section or a vaginal birth in case an emergency were to occur- it could also have something to do with the fact that they had twice as many people in the delivery room with twins- 2 of everyone- nurses, pediatricians, etc!

Do you know if your babies have their own placenta? If they each have their own placenta they are known as di/di twins (dichorionic/diamniotic- 2 placentas, 2 amniotic sacs.) and in many cases would be fraternal. If they share a placenta, they are mono/di (monochorionic/diamniotic- one placenta, 2 amniotic sacs) then they are definitely identical. If they share everything (placenta and amniotic sac) they are known as momo twins, which is pretty rare. Momo twins are also always identical, too. If they are di/di twins when they are born if they have the same blood type, hair and eye color, they could be identical- the only way to confirm is a DNA test. It's all kind of confusing and I'm not the best at explaining it (and I may have missed a thing or two) but in any case- congratulations!! Keep us posted!

Thanks everyone! The hospital i'm going to I think have some private room but not sure how many and the girls have their own sacs but only one placenta but at my fetal assessment they said it was functioning as two placentas so they couldn't tell if they were identical or not...and this is also my 3rd pregnancy and my Dr said if we make it to 37 weeks we are laughing but he seems to think that I would probably have them in may even though i'm due in June...My first son who is 7 he was 6 weeks early but it was cause I got a chest infection and mild ammonia and induced my self and my second son he is 2 and a half he was a week early so pretty much term...I'm hoping they will be identical but I guess I will just have to wait and see ha ha

Congratulations and welcome to TS! The hospital I delivered my oldest two at had all private rooms. I didn't get to deliver the twins there due to my many complications and the necessity of a Level III NICU, so I had to go somewhere else. The hospital where I had them has a brand new unit, but there are very few private rooms. They do try to make MoMs a priority for the private rooms (simply because the rooms are so much larger), but the ultimate priority is for emotional need (like we were). It wouldn't have been very nice to have to share a room with a happy mom, baby, and family while our babies were struggling to survive in the NICU. I was extremely grateful for that private room!

Congrats on your twin pregnancy and welcome! :D

As far as the private rooms go, all of our local hospitals have private rooms for the maternity section. Although they also have been redone in the last few years to feature special "women's centers" so I'm not sure what they had before that. I'd do what PP said and take a tour of the hospital you'll be delivering at so you can see what to expect and ask while you're on your tour. :D

I was told my twins had 2 sacs and 2 placentas. I just found out about a month ago that they were infact identical. Two sacs one placenta and the hospital said that they are not even sure now that there were 2 sacs. At every ultrasound they showed me two placentas. One was just a shadow. Lol!!! Congrats on your twin pregnancy!

Thanks everyone...I wish I knew if my girl were identical or not but they are unable to tell but my Dr said probably not but there is one placenta and 2 sacs but the placenta is acting as two so might be two together or something guess I will have to wait and get the blood test when they are born to see
