If you used a reward, what was it?

Not sure what I think the reward should be. We don't do candy but I thought I might do "a piece" as a reward since it's not something they aren't used to. What has worked for you or what are your thoughts on the whole thing?

Calling someone on the phone to tell them what they did. That was the BIGGEST reward I could give them. They LOVED getting to call their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, my best friend, you name it.

(I chose not to go the candy route because I PT'd one at a time and it was just too hard for Ben to understand why Hannah was getting a jelly bean. So we stopped that immediately and came up with other rewards.)

 

We used "quarters" (We started with quarters, then realized we'd be broke! LOL went to pennies)

We worked it that 1 penny was for getting to the bathroom, 2 for actually going, 3 for doing both, 4 for remembering to wash, flush and pulling up.

Now, after awhile, it wasn't necessary. And he really didn't notice.

It worked for the boy that was ready. The other boy just wanted the money. He's now training, and I need to get out the coins again for this adventure - but I'm not sure that motivation would be the same.

 

I did a sticker chart. Once she filled up the whole chart , which took about a week, she was able to go to the store and pick out the toy of her choice.

 

Small marshmallows (just one). I'm not big on candy, either, but DD2 was someone who needed external motivation.
