If you use Prevacid oral suspension

If one or both of your little ones need Prevacid (the oral suspension, not the solutab), how do you give it? Do you put it in their cheek or do you mix it with a little breast milk or formula? I tasted it and it doesn't taste very good, so I have been giving it in about 10 ml of breast milk. But recently when I give it to Karina that way, she's been throwing it back up again, so I wonder if I would be better off giving it to her from a syringe since it would be a lesser quantity then (2.5 ml instead of 12.5 ml of volume).

Annelise hasn't been throwing hers up, but I can't get her to take it either. We've been putting it in the little 2.5 ounce Medela bottles we got from the NICU with a Gerber slow flow nipple. We've been using this system since leaving the NICU and it has worked fine. Suddenly this week, she acts like the nipple makes her gag and she won't latch on to it to take the med. Last night, I poured it into one of the Natural Latch nipples we've been using for her actual feedings and she took it fine. Is it possible she suddenly has some sort of nipple confusion between bottle nipples?

I would ask to switch to the solutab. We were on the solutab and then with our new insurance they switched us to the solution and not only was it not as effective as the solutab, it was a PITA.

They hated the taste, it had to be refrigerated and it expired every 15 days and we would have to go get more of it.

The solutab is so much better. We started on the solutab at 2 months and they had no issues taking it. It is my wonder drug.

Roe takes it with a syringe and he loves it. He grins when he sees the syringe, sucks it down as if it were candy, and cries when it is finished!!! My pharmacist mixes it with a sweetening agent to make it taste better for him. I think she said it's called "medisweet"

Thanks for this tip. I didn't know it was possible to sweeten it. Unfortunately, I just called our pharmacy (Walmart) since we are getting a refill today and the pharmacist told me she didn't know how to flavor or sweeten it. I told her I knew of someone who got it sweetened and she said she would look into it and see what she could do. I'm not holding my breath. <_<

Good news. The pharmacist really did check into it. She just called me back and said that she found out how to flavor it and we could have grape or bubble gum. Woo hoo! This may make life a lot better around here. :)

My GI specialist always told me to give it 30 minutes before their meal (or more). But I am aware not all docs tell you this. Prevacid says the same. I would give it 30 minutes before his evening meal / bottle and also before his morning nap, so that he could have his bottle after his nap (only 1 hour nap or so in the morning).

My ds was on the solution, but it wasn't stable enough. It's supposed to last for 15 days but it never did (and some insurances / pharmacies will even give you 30 days), things went downhill after 11-12 days and then it took about a week to get the new prescription to kick in (and finishing the old one). At 4 months we switched to the tab and we put in a syringe, suck up some water and squirt it in his mouth. Very easy, and it worked 1000x better. The solution sucks!

One of my twins was on prevacid as an infant. We did the powder and just mixed it in with her formula. She didn't seem to mind.
