if you took toys out of bedroom

If you took toys out of your kids room when you transitioned them to toddler beds, when did you put them back in?

I want to reorganize our house and I was thinking of where to put some of the bulkier toys like a play kitchen so our livingroom had more space.
Our boys still nap 2.5 Hrs in the afternoon and 9-11 hours at night...so I'm a bit nervous adding toys back in may interfere with naptime. I know they will most likely drop naptime in the next year, but right now I'm really protective of that time.
    What are your thoughts?

We have always kept toys in their room. Our transition to big kid beds went fairly smoothly, despite having toys within easy reach. Just sharing to let you know that is is possible to transition, without removing everything!

We only took the toys that made noise of their room. They don't get out of bed unless they have to go to the bathroom. :)

My boys are 3 1/2 and have been in toddler beds for 6 months now. I still don't have any toys in their room. My one DS goes to sleep within minutes but my other guy will stay up and play with one toy for up to an hour before he finally crashes. The thought of having a room full of toys for him :faint: For the past few weeks, he insists on taking his Super Why toy to bed with him. For awhile it was ok, but lately, he will play with it and he's loud enough I have to go in there and take it away. Once I do, he goes to sleep within a few minutes.

For me it's no big deal because they do have a playroom so I don't have to worry about toys in their bedroom.

I don't see having toys in there anytime soon.

My girls have been in toddler beds since they were 18 months old - we added stuffed animals & books back in when they were around 2 I think. I doubt we will ever put anything else in though. I prefer for them not to think of their bedroom as a play area.

We took my kids' toys out once my DD transitioned to a toddler bed at 1.5. They still have books and stuffed animals, though. I don't plan on putting toys in there again. I want them to think of their bedroom as a quiet area.

I agree with the last two PP. We store toys elsewhere, so the bedroom remains a quiet place. I understand not wanting them in the livingroom, though. We'll have that problem this fall when the playroom becomes the baby's room!

They occasionally bring a toy with them but so far it's still only stuffed animals and a doll. They fall asleep right away now that we've stopped naps though so we could probably put toys up there again.

We had to move the bookcase into the closet with a latch lock at the top because they were tearing apart their books. They only have a few stuffed animals in their bedroom now and are allowed to pick one toy a night if they want to bring in with them to help them calm down and fall asleep. DS usually picks an action figure that he puts on the dresser to keep him company as he sleeps or so he told DH. While DD will bring a Woody or Jesse doll that are mostly cloth to put on the end of her bed.

During the day they are allowed to take toys down to their room, but they rarely do. They have more fun hiding under the sheets or asking me to turn on the CD player so they can have a dance party.

Even my 5-1/2 year old nephew still has very few toys in his room that he shares with his 6-1/2 step-brother. My sister has a basement play room, but they do play in their bedroom too. I think that too many toys in the bedroom adds to chaos and fights over going to bed IMO.

we've never had toys in their room, and I don't plan on it any time soon... our twins would be too enticed to play if we had toys in there... anything to keep their minds going. though now that we skip naps they are more tired at night and go to sleep really easy, and in the mornings I am thinking that I want some toy in there so that they can play a few minutes w/o coming in to get me... but I also don't want them to start waking up early to play... hmm. good luck figuring out what works.
