How do you keep the kids out of them? Right now, I have a fence in front of them (like this ) But as you can see...Gabriel can get over it. But without the fence they will NOT leave the blinds alone and they keep breaking them. They just think it's the best fun ever. But now Gabe is getting over the fence, I am afraid he is going to get hurt (falling over the other side, cutting his feet etc).

So just wondering what ya'll do. Will the facination wear off after a couple days of getting access to them?

    thanks!

The fascination wore off, but it was a long time for Maggie. We ended up putting stuff in front of ours that they couldn't climb over. or raising the blinds when they are playing around them.

I lost it and had DH take them down. Ours are like made out of vinyl or plastic (they came with the house) which is great for cleaning, fabric ones collect too much cat hair. But, they made a tremendous racket and of course the girls thought that was awesome and would play in them and liked to pull on the blinds. If you pull too hard, they can break and come off. So, we took them down. The family room is on a shady side of the house and our yard is very private, so it's not a big deal to not have them. I put them in Time Out so many times for pulling on the blinds, it wasn't funny.

Same problem here! In fact, we have several bald spots on our two sets of vertical blinds :( We can't take them down because they are covering two sliding doors in our sun porch, and it is way to sunny and hot without them. We have tried to make it less appealing to play with by putting furniture in front of the one that blocks the most sun from the family room, and then opening the other so that they are harder to play with.

If anyone has any idea of what to use to replace this kind of blind that would work with sliding doors, please chime in, I really hate these blinds.

    O.

My parents have these kind of blinds. When we go to visit, my mom opens the blinds all the way and uses velcro to hold them all together. Just a strip the goes around the blinds. That way the kids can try to make noise with them, but it just doesnt work. After a short time, they lost interest.

Yes, mine were facinated with ours as well. Fortunately ours can be pulled all the way open and when they do they are behind the couch where the kids cannot get to them. But like a pp--they have been on many timeouts for touching the blinds! The facination does where off but its funny because sometimes they will still go mess with them.

We have them, and the same problem... with bald spots as well... I cannot take them out because it is a sunny side and gets too hot. But once the sun passes that side of the house, I open them and put a rubber band around them to hold them together. I would LOVE something else, but just don't know what I would get... :(

even though my girls know not to play with them, if I forget to open them up right away then they will venture over and play with them. They are not AS interested in them when they are completely open so i try to remember to open them as soon as we come downstairs. if they do start playing with them, i say NO we don't play with that and i pick them up and bring them back to the living room (the blinds are in our kitchen which is partly open to our living room).

Ikwym! My twins love the blinds in our family room, but their rarely allowed in there though. We put a gat up from the dining room into the family room because that is where we have our 61" HDTV, PS3, CD's and our Blu-ray discs, so we don't want those played with.

We don't do anything. They ran past with their arms out to whack them all for the first few days. After that, it's only been an occasional "Don't touch the blinds" and that's it. One of our neighbors gathered them all at one end of the window and tied them together, then hung curtains.

My parents have verticals in one room and I just "count" them when they mess with them. We are headed there tomorrow, so we'll see how long it takes. We pretty much leave them open and stacked back while we are there - except in the early a.m. and those are blocked by stuff.

well shucky darn. I was hoping ya'll would have some wise words on how to break them...but it looks like a universal problem!! Our problem is that we are in an apartment so people are back and forth all day. People are so nosey and seems they are always looking in our sliding door (what's with that??!!). And we face the setting sun, so from about 2pm on it's blazing hot with the sun right in our door. So taking them down is not an option. I could hang curtains, but I think theywill just do the same thing, and they are not old enough to be counted.

    Oh well. Thanks everyone! :D

I pull mine up where they can't reach them because all they want to do is look out the window
