Heather, we just got back from our beach vacation and I have absolutely no good advice...it was a complete disaster!! Ok, maybe just a couple of things...some sort of shade/shelter/umbrella, and a baby pool to put on the beach for them to splash in.

some sort of sun shade and some sort of plastic sheet so they can be on the sand without eating it (they will still eat it). i only managed 30 minutes before i gave up.

also some sort of container with water to wipe their hands and pour down their throats when they eat sand.

    good luck.

I don't even really want to go but I am afraid I will disappoint my boys really bad if I cancel!!! I have visions of me and the girls in a hotel room all day every day!!
I didn't even think about them eating the sand!!! thanks!! I don't know why I didn't think about that - they eat everything else!!!

I've taken my girls to the beach twice now for week long vacations and we're going again in August. It CAN be fun! Just make sure you have an umbrella or large tarp thing for shade, a large beach blanket, sand toys, and water for them. And oh yes, sunscreen and sunhats. Don't bother with swim diapers - you won't need them and regular will be fine. Bring an extra towel to keep sand free to wipe them off with.

We have had Liam at the beach quite a bit this summer. He mainly sleeps in his carriage while there or on mommy. My sister got a great chair from one of her friends that she brings to the pool and beach for Brady. Here it is. We usually just have an umbrella and a blanket, too. The twins were always good at the beach as infants, too. We never had an issue.

if you have an old pnp you can use that w/ a big beach umbrella over it to keep them up more off the sand
we just went to the beach on thurs, but left the babies in their carseats on a heavy blanket under the beach umbrella, I took them out and held them both in my lap in the beach chair for awhile but your girls are older... it was also pretty bright even under the umbrella so sun hats to shade their eyes more, and ditto on the fresh water and maybe some extra towels to be kept dry and sand free

    Have fun!

We went to the beach a couple of weeks ago and ours had so much fun! Yes, they ate sand . . . I just let them eat it and took lots of pictures. You can dig a whole by the water for them to sit and play in. This will help to keep them cool. I would take a couple of shovels for them to fumble around with. We took a large comforter and umbrella. We only used the comforter for snack and lunch time. They were on the beach otherwise. Definitely cover them in sunsreen and put on hats. We also took a change of clothes and a clean regular diaper for the ride home. Do not plan to sunbathe! We took beach chairs and that was a big mistake. If you sit you'll probably sit in the sand with your little ones.

We had a fantastic time and plan to return in August! Enjoy your trip.

We've been twice, including yesterday and we've had a blast! A huge blanket is a must to sit, roll, crawl etc on. I second the umbrella thing unless you'll have a tree or something else for shade. One day we took the bouncy chairs to sleep in, one day we didn't but I wish we had. And a receiving blanket or something very lightweight like that - I used to nurse, lay over their sleeping faces to keep sun off, etc.
    Have fun!
