We've always camped; dh is a die-hard. When we were dating, we didn't even have a tent.....just camped in the back of the truck. Now, we have a 34 ft motorhome. :) But, we're trying to sell it; it's just too big for us. We're not sure what we want to replace it with.....if anything. Probably a toy hauler, but we have thought about just going back to tents. Would we be nuts????

My 2nd question is, when camping with your kids, what works best for baths?? Even though we have the motorhome, we don't use the shower......we never camp with hookups & there's usually just enough water for dishes. In the past, I had a little rubbermaid tub that I heated up some water & used for baths. But now they're too big for it & when I looked for a new one I realized that the rubbermaids big enough for the kids were too big for me. :) I'm only 5' & couldn't see how I could reach over the sides once it's on a table! So what's a good camping tub/bucket for 2 yr olds?

PS - do they make smaller sleeping bags w/o straps or strings? I'm afraid to let them sleep in sleeping bags for fear they'll wrap the ties around their necks.

I can't wait for some replies--great post! We're going camping in the mountains this weekend and I'm totally stressing out about baths, sleeping arrangements, naps, everything, etc. Ugh!

we just got back from our annual camping trip to maine. we have a pop-up camper. i really couldn't imagine camping w/ the twins in tents. that is just me. especially this year since it was the worst weather we had ever had....it rained A LOT!

we didn't use sleeping bags...just laid out big blankets on the bed for them to sleep on...warm ones...then there usual bed stuff, blankets, stuffed animals, pillows, etc. tried to make it as much like home as possible. you could always cut the strings off the bags, couldn't you?

we use hookups...and we have a little hose shower area in the camper...to be honest...i think they had one hose down all week. it is just too hard camping. we did go to the pool once, so i sort of count that as a bath :) also...we cleaned them up every night with a face cloth...hands, face, feet, privates...as best as we could.

we did naps as we did at home...though i think they were soooo tired because we would keep them up late at night to assure they would sleep through the night....after a couple of days, we started doing two naps and it worked out great. they were less cranky.

last year when we camped, they were 10 months old and we used two pnps for them to sleep in...this year, they slept in the bed of the pop-up...my dh mcgyvered a way to keep them in the bed using pieces of a supergate!

it all worked well for us.

    good luck!

We went tent camping at the beginning of summer with our kids and had a great time. We can't wait to do it again. We have never camped in a motorhome together, so it is one of those things where you don't know what you are missing.

The sleeping bags we have do not have straps or anything. We got them at Target a long time ago.

We usually try to stay at places that have showers. In between, I just heated some water and put it in our wash bins and gave the kids a "sponge bath" to keep them clean. I thought about bringing a tiny inflatable pool, but thought I would make more mud than anything else.

I think that most places sell Kids sleeping bags. I dont know if they have straps or strings on them, I would check them out. As far as a bath, could you just take some extra water, in a jug or something. I would at least try to wipe them off or give them a sponge bath of sorts. They may think that is part of the fun of camping, getting to do things differently than they do at home!

As for sleeping, we have a pop up and I bought some air mattresses from One Step Ahead that have a bumper all the way around them. We each take one kid and sleep in a bunk. I am scared that they will still roll over and fall out (they are 2.5 years old).

Other than that they do great!!

He are regular campers and only use tents. Here in Texas you can camp anytme but the summer!! The twins whent for the first time when they were 6 months old. I love tents more than a camper...which my in laws have. There is just more room for the kids to play and move around and less to get into (drawers, opening little fridge, etc!)

We always camp were there are shower facilities and I just take the kids in with me, then send them out to dad or grandma to dress them.

I have a few little sleeping bags, they make kids sized one and if you do not like the string then cut them and just store them in duffle bags.
