I'm just curious. If you feed them yogurt, what type do you feed them? Right now they eat Yo-Baby because it's the only brand I know of that is made with whole milk. .

Over the weekend I picked up a big 32oz of Dannon Lowfat Yogurt for only $2.50. I pay on average $3.75 for a 6 pack/4oz of yo-baby. So with the lower fat I'm getting 8oz more for $1.50 less :umm:

They are not huge milk drinkers. For some reason they won't take a sippy with milk in the booster chairs, but will drink it with a snack when we are downstairs.

Cheese is another hit or miss; some days they'll eat it, other days they won't.

They have their 18 month well baby next month and I'll check with her to see if lowfat yogurt is ok.

I heard that they should eat/drink milk products with full fat until the age of two so that is why I'm asking.

I stuck with full-fat yogurt until my girls were two. StonyField does make a whole milk yogurt that comes in a big tub (vanilla or plain). See if your grocery store carries that- mine was hit or miss so I usually just bought the little yo-baby cups.

i give mine yoplait (regular, not 99% FF, tho still not made with whole milk). they get their 16oz plus of whole milk every day, so it's okay to give them regular yogurt that doesn't have whole milk in it. that's what my pedi said. sometimes i get them the yoplait kids dora package with DHA if it's on sale (which is rare)

My twins will eat anything, but I stick with whole milk yogurt. I have bought yo-baby for the convenience, but the price is getting ridiculous. I have one child with severe reactions to sugar and artificial coloring so I have started buying plain whole milk yogurt in the biggest container I can find that is on sale. Sometimes I sweeten it with sugar free vanilla milk mix, but normally all but my eldest (who will be 16 in a matter of weeks and eats like your average temperamental 3 year old - sorry, small detour!) eat it plain.

I have also heard about the whole milk/ full fat for brain development btw. I only buy whole milk products for my kids, I figure what have I got to lose?

I do the Stonefield Whole Milk yogurt in the 32oz container.. I think its $3.60 for the organic yogurt. They gobble it up, we usually go through one a week... its still cheaper per oz than the little containers. of course its not cheaper if your kids won't eat that much...

I just buy full fat yogurt of whatever is on sale. We do like Yo Baby but sometimes it is too expensive.

I buy the large container of whole milk yogurt from a brand called La Yogurt. It's it targeted primarily towards Latinos. At the bottom of this page they have links to places that sell their products. I get mine at a local chain called C-Town. I get the large tub for as little as $1.79 (when on sale) and $2.89 when it's full price.

I absolutely refuse to pay for that Yo Baby--plus most of those kiddie yogurts are loaded with sugar. They often have like twice the sugar of adult yogurt, and twice the price.

Buy whole milk yogurt in the quart. Mix in applesauce or baby food purees fruits... they will love it. You could mash an over ripe banana in yourself.

Full fat, organic, no hormones etc. It's worth the extra buck or two for me. Mine don't love yogurt. However, I did make yogurt, granola, banana pops and gave them as snacks after their nap today. It took them 25 minutes to eat them and they sat in the grass in the backyard and devoured them contently, definitely a keeper snack for summer. mmmmm.....

ETA: If you go to Stoneyfield farms website or some of the other organic brands that your store carries you can usually find a coupon to take in. Also, if I find a coupon in a magazine, I'll make a copy. My store takes them.

I just started using Brown Cow 32 oz. All natural, whole milk, no hormones, etc. It comes in plain or vanilla flavor. They love it when I add banana! I don't know the cost, but I know it's less than Yo Yogart. I try to not let price be a factor when it comes to their food, I just pay less for other household expenditures.

i get a 32 oz container of dannon plain whole milk yogurt and add sugar free flavored applesauce to it. my twins love it!! i only shop at wal-mart and they only have the dannon plain and yobaby as far as whole milk yogurt. i would rather buy the yobaby but it's too expensive for what you get. we go through at least one 32 oz container of yogurt a week.

Ok, now I reallly will have to look when I go shopping because where I shop (Ultra foods) they only sell low or fat free yogurt in the 32oz containers.

It's good to know that they actually sell whole milk yogurt in the larger size, I'll just have to find a store that has it.

    Thanks everyone.

My boys get the same yogurt that DH and I eat. I can't bring myself to spend the extra money just to get the yo-baby. I'm not very concerned with organic or hormones, so we get whatever is cheapest or whatever I have a coupon for. I figure they are getting plenty of whole milk with what they drink (they are big milk drinkers) so I'm not going to worry about the yogurt.

I bought the full fat kind, YoBaby, for my two until they turned 2 years old. At 2 they started eating Trix, Yoplait, and now their favorite is Breyers.

My kids eat Yoplait yogurt in with the red lid/container lettering. My kids would not eat Yo Baby. My ped recommended the Yoplait when we questioned her about the Yo Baby. My kids love it.

My girls are very small, so I would prefer to give them whole milk yogurt, but it is not available in any store within an hour radius of us, so I have to give them regular low fat yogurt.

I use goats yogurt that is full fat. It is made by Liberte and I buy it at the healthfood store. I have read that goats milk is most like breast milk. I have been giving it to them since about 7 months.

I buy the 32 oz. whole milk yogurt by either Stonyfield or Trader Joe's store brand. I buy a vanilla and a plain and mix them. My DS also "drinks" his yogurt...whole milk yogurt is runnier than low fat. I put it in a cup with about an oz of pear juice and he drinks it through a straw like a smoothie. He loves it!

I fed them whole milk, but wish I would have known how to make my own in the crockpot.

This recipe comes from a Blog and I have made it numerous times. It is GREAT!

:good: It is so easy and delicious. I would recommend that everyone try it. Cheap, easy & no added sugar, salt, colors, etc

--8 cups (half-gallon) of whole milk--pasteurized and homogenized is fine, but do NOT use ultra-pasteurized.

--1/2 cup store-bought natural, live/active culture plain yogurt (you need to have a starter. Once you have made your own, you can use that as a starter)

    --frozen/fresh fruit for flavoring

    --thick bath towel

    The Directions

This takes a while. Make sure you have 5 1/2 hours. I suggest your 5 1/2 hrs ends @ your bedtime. Then it can sit while you sleep.

Plug in your crockpot and turn to low. Add an entire half gallon of milk. Cover and cook on low for 2 1/2 hours.

Unplug your crockpot. Leave the cover on, and let it sit for 3 hours.

When 3 hours have passed add in your 1/2 cup of store-bought live/active culture yogurt. Stir to combine

Put the lid back on your crockpot. Keep it unplugged, and wrap a heavy bath towel all the way around the crock for insulation.

Go to bed, or let it sit for 8 hours.

In the morning, the yogurt will have thickened---it's not as thick as store-bought yogurt, but has the consistency of low-fat plain yogurt.

Blend in batches with your favorite fruit. I did mango, strawberry, and blueberry. When you blend in the fruit, bubbles will form and might bother you. They aren't a big deal, and will settle eventually.

Chill in a plastic container(s) in the refrigerator. Your fresh yogurt will last 7-10

We do yo baby, stoneyfield or horizon. We stick with organic. However this last time I bought "all natural" by dannon. Not sure if it is whole milk or not as we are out of it right now and I didn't think to look.

I was at Trader Joe's today and found some organic whole milk yogurt. 32oz for $2.99. That's .80 cheaper than Yo-Baby for 8oz more.

They just love yogurt and the more money I save, the more I can feed it to them.

I'll just finish giving them the lowfat and now I know where I can find whole milk yogurt.

I feed full fat yogurt. If they are fussy about it, see if there is any "yogurt plus" kind of vanilla plus fruit.

I buy the tubes of gogurt at Costco, natural flavor and color. They can eat it from the tubes now, but I used to squeeze it into a bowl.

:good: for the crockpot yogurt. I've been making a batch per week since last fall.
I do a slight variation on the recipe:

1/2 gallon milk (anything but non-fat works well. I use 1%)
1/2 cup powered milk (makes the yogurt nice and think)
    1.5 T vanilla
    4 T honey

    1. Mix all ingredients in crockpot.
    2. Heat on low for 2.5 hours.
    3. Unplug and let sit 3 hours (2.5 in cold, winter months)
    4. Whisk in 1/2 cup yogurt (use something with active cultures. You can use your own from the previous batch)
    5. Cover with bath towels and let sit 8 hours.

I heat in the evening and let it sit overnight. It has just a touch of sweet. We mix in frozen strawberries and blueberries (slightly thawed) with granola. It's so incredibly easy to make. I also like that I control how much sugar it has.

I just get whatever I can find that is organic and whole milk. I don't even buy the regular ones for me because of all the artificial sweeteners in them.
