For about 2 weeks now, when I put them down for their naps & bedtime they will jump up and down in their cribs and yell & scream (happy). This can go on for 1/2 hour or at bedtime HOURS! For the past 2 nights, Josh was awake playing for 2 hours past his 7:30 bedtime. I though for sure he would be tired since he only had a little over an hour for his nap because of the same issue.

Of course the problem I'm having is very crabby boys because they are not getting their usual sleep. Today I went in there at 8:00 (they usually get up around 7:30) and Jake did not want to get up. It's taken him over an hour to fully wake-up.

They start a 1/2 day program on Monday (only one day a week) and I don't want this to be an ongoing problem.

    Here is their sleep schedule:

    Wake: 7:30

Nap: 1:30 for a good 2-3 hours/ I was putting them down at 1:00 but the playing would last even longer.

    Bedtime: 7:30

If I try to wake them up from their naps early, I again have to deal with very crabby boys for the rest of the day.

    Any advice???

Our schedule is similar except their nap time varies. My girls have also made playtime out of bedtime in the past week or 2. And with them sharing a room, it just makes it worse because they keep each other up. I don't go in there though, I just wait for them to play themselves out and lay down.

I just let my boys play and eventually they fall asleep. I don't have a set schedule though so if they talk longer than they just sleep longer in the morning. My boys usually go to bed between 8-830 and don't get up til 830-9am sometimes they even sleep in a little longer. What if you push their bedtime back till 8? I am not sure how old your children are but is there anything you can do to settle them before they go to bed so perhaps they aren't so hyper? Best of luck

I don't go in. I went through this with my DD, I am not sure if this was a phase she went through or not...but I decided to have TV off for 30-60 minutes before nap and bedtime and now she barely plays at night. I think she needed more wind down time before bed then what we were giving her. I hope your boys get out of it soon!

Mine do that at naps & I don't go in. Eventually, they do fall asleep. Hope yours stop doing that at nighttime though!

Well they did it again today at naptime and I went in after an hour and told them to get to sleep. I must have scared them because I soon as I left it was quiet (and still is).

Jake was rubbing his eyes all morning and was laying on the floor right before their nap. I though for sure he would go right to sleep. Putting them in seperate rooms is not an option so I guess if this keeps up I'll just have to keep going in there.

Putting them to bed at a later time does not do anything. They will still stay up and play and I end up paying for it the next day.

Tomorrow they won't have a nap because we'll be visiting my Dad and mil for halloween so I really need them to catch up on some sleep today.

Mine also play before naps...I hear babbling and giggling between the two of them and their cribs are right next to each other....I love it! Eventually they drift off, but I'll keep them in there for about an hour and if they're still up I'll get them. I put mine down for a nap at 2:15 and they played for almost an hour. It's just now quiet!

Well the slept for almost 3 hours but it was not enough for Jake. He's been crying non stop for the past 45 minutes. I tried to put him back in his crib but that made it even worse.

Instead of sleeping 3 hours for a nap and 12 at bedtime, it's been cut by a good 2-3 hours per day and it's catching up to him.

When he does not get enough sleep he'll be crabby the entire day.

    *Update*

This is either a phase or they no longer need 14 hours of sleep a day. Last night I put them to bed at 7:30 and they played until 9:00 and woke at 7:00 this morning; so 10 hours of sleep. At first I heard Josh who needs less sleep and I figured I'd take him out and let Jake sleep. Within 10 minutes I heard him also so I got them both up. They seem to be doing ok this morning but with no naps today it should be a fun time for all later.

They were always very good sleepers so this is just throwing me for a loop.

I guess it could be worse, they could be crying instead of playing.

mine are in in toddler beds. They sleep from 7-7 and take a nap from 12-2.
If I *know* they are tired and they continue to play, talk etc I remove one child while the other falls asleep (usually less than 10 minutes). Then I put the first one back in their room again and they too fall asleep quickly because there is no one to talk and play with. Cruel I know but when they need sleep thats what I have found works.

It depends on the day and how bad I need them to take a nap. At night I do not go in at all.

I'm trying to decide right now if going in would help. I'd really like them to get a good nap because of Halloween activities, but me going in is likely to start them crying and right now they are playing sort of quietly.

i/we stay w/our boys until they are asleep. they seem to go to sleep really calmly this way, though in a few months we'll try to teach them to fall asleep on their own.

also, if one wakes before the other i go in and try to get him back to sleep.

    gl!
