Hello, when did you all start cereal if your babies are premature? The girls are a little over 3 months now.

    Thanks,

    Tina

M had/has reflux so we started with rice cereal in her bottle around 6-8 weeks or so. We gave it to N just to be even and our ped said it couldn't hurt. We got the go ahead to start solids at 4 months but I decided to wait until 6 (4 mos adjusted). The babes had serious tongue thrust issues even starting then. Both have become very proficient just in the past 6-8 weeks. M caught on first but N still makes a bit of a mess.

    Trust your instincts.

I got the go ahead at their 4 month appt and they were 2 months premature. But they were also getting cereal in their bottles due to severe reflux so they had already been "on it." I would say at about 5 months actual or so they were interested and did pretty well but I was not doing it on a daily basis. Just when I had some time to kill before the next nap or bottle.

My girls were born at 30 weeks. We just started cereal in the past 2 weeks, but I really don't think they are ready yet. They still have the tongue thrust reflex. We're mostly trying once or twice a weekend until it seems like they are more interested.

ETA: Mine have pretty severe reflux too, but we use a thickener (Simply Thick), not cereal in the bottle. I think you are asking about when to start spoon feeding cereal. Am I correct?

My boys were over 6 wks premature and they started getting cereal in their bottles while they were in the NICU. Reflux was causing apnea. We never really stopped that until they were taking cereal by spoon.

Joey was born at 30 weeks. She had reflux until she was about 9 months old, but didn't have cereal in her bottle. We started cereal at 6 months, but she didn't take it to it very well so we held off for another month or so and she did very well.

Mine were born at 33 weeks and the ped still started them at 4 months old real age. Natalie had reflux so they gave her rice in her bottles at 2 1/2 months old.

Mine were 34 weekers, but our pedi gave us the ok to start at 4 months actual age. We waited until 5 1/2 months though because I didn't think they were ready before then.
