If I dont breastfeed what happens with my milk supply will it still come in and hurt when its not released? I breast feed my son for a few weeks and hated it! I cant see myself doing it with two, so since I wont start the process how long till my supply would come in and I remember when I was feeding my son if I went to long and used already pumped milk my breasts would hurt will this happen? Any nonbreast feeding moms that can tell me what to expect? will I need breast pads?

i didnt nurse my singleton. They asked me before i left the hospital if i planned to, and gave me a shot to dry up my milk since it wasnt going to be used. i'm planning on bf the twins though, and alternating using bottles.

yes, your milk will come in, and you will probably leak if you dont use it, and be sore...then after about a week, (if i remember correctly) you should be mostly dried up and back to normal.

Hi ladies. I tried pumping w/ my singleton and did for about a week, but I think I was doing something wrong because it wasn't enough. They say size doesn't matter, but i have small breasts and i think I should have pumped more often because of that....who knows. I also stopped because it hurt like you know what.

I stopped cold turkey and boy did my boobs hurt!! I normally don't believe old wives tales, but because i really don't like drugs unless i'm in pain, I tried the cabbage technique to dry myself up and it worked like a charm. All you have to do is buy a head of cabbage and cover your breasts with the leaves, then wrap ace bandage around them and go to sleep - I didn't take it off until the next evening, but it worked perfectly. No more pain and no more milk. :)

Sudafed also helps in drying up along with the cabbage leaves.

There are also herbal teas you can drink to help dry up your milk supply. Earth Mama Angel Baby makes one. Cold cabbage leaves are also thought to not only help your engorged breasts feel better but to help signal them to stop making milk. Finally, keeping your breasts compressed will help with the engorgement.

Just so you know, breastfeeding was also very difficult for me at first for both my boys. They were very bad latchers and it hurt every time for about a month. I gave myself a deadline that, if it didn't get better, I would stop. It did though and actually became easy. It's so much more simple to breastfeed than to clean bottles, make sure you have all the feeding equipment before leaving the house, and to pay for formula. I pumped and formula fed the twins and wish I hadn't had to deal with all that entailed. Whether or not you breastfeed is totally up for you but I did want you to know that it gets much, much better after those first few weeks. :)
