Identical or Fraternal?

So - after reading so many posts on here etc. I'm really curious about my girls. The doctor says they are fraternal - they were in seperate sacs - but they do have the same blood type. Everyone thinks my girls are identical - their heads ARE shaped differently - but according to the last post about this, that doesn't matter. So - my question to you all knowing mommies - does seperate placentas automatically make them fraternal? if not, then having the same blood type make them identical? I can totally tell them apart and don't think they are identical, but anyone who meets them thinks they are. It's not a big deal and I wouldn't pay for the test, I was just curious. TIA!! Here is a picture - they are 7 mos. old. here.

    Hey Kim

They do have the possibility of being identical with the same blood type or they could be fraternal still with the same blood type (that really doesnt' help does it? :) ) my boys are fraternal and have the same blood type...so who knows.

One thing I did find out when I was preggers was:
    1. You can have "typical" identical - looks like with minor differences
    2. You can have "mirror" identical - clones of each of other - usually one is left handed one is right - cow licks go in the opposite directions (just like you are looking in the mirror)
    3. You can have "fraternal" identical - where they don't look anything alike but are considered identical
    4. you can have fraternal twins

So you could have identical twins that look nothing like each other. One family in my twins group has that, her two girls looks like they are years apart, not minutes and look nothing like each other (one has curly hair and the other has straight!!) so anything is possible.

    hope this helps

    Nope and nope.

Separate placentas just decrease the chances that they are identical, but still can be identical. Mine had separate placentas, but we did the DNA test after they were born and they are identical. Don't know about my girls' blood types, but having the same blood type doesn't automatically make them identical either -- sibilings can have the same blood types.

We did the DNA test to settle for sure whether they were identical or not. My MIL had been praying for 5 years for identical twin girls' (she is an identical twin) and didn't tell us until we told her we were preggers, so we did the DNA test to confirm!

Yours look identical to me! (I can tell mine apart too, but no one who meets them can)

I think they look very id to me. Mine had seperate sacks & placentas and they are id so you never know. I think i could almost say that I am 99% sure they are id.

Oh, for crying out loud. They're identical -- I'd bet money on it. My ID boys had their own placentas and I can easily tell them apart because of their head shapes. About 30% of ID twins have their own gear.

I would bet money they are identical. They have all the same features. I was tolf Fraternal while I was preggo to. When they were born I would sometimes mix them up, even though they do look different. I had them tested and they are ID..

W/out reading the other posts my vote is for Identical. They can be in separate sacs and still be ID... mine were seperate, have the same blood type BUT ARE frats (or so we think, maybe I will post pics too) but it is really obvious that my girls look nothing alike... people comment on THAT in our case, "man they dont look anything alike do they?!"

But yours I think are ID.

I would definitely say identical! My dad is sitting here in the room with me and he said identical too, so that's 2 votes for identical!

I didn't read the pp so I'm sure someone already answered your question, but separate placentas does not automatically mean fraternal. If the egg split early enough there would be two placentas. In my opinion first of all they are GORGEOUS!!!!, and secondly they couldn't be anymore identical. My boys are identical and they have different head shapes but when you put hats on them you can't tell them apart. :)

Ok. My vote is ABSOLUTELY identical. My boys were in separate sacs with separate placentas. I can tell them apart easily and most others can too because of their face shape. Cameron has a longer, narrower face than Evan does. I would be very shocked if you had your girls tested and they were fraternal.

Your babies could be models, they are adorable. I have to say, I don't think I've seen more identical looking babies.Besides the head shape, how else can you tell them apart? Are they different weights? What beauties. We have boy/girl twins with the same blood type, so that tells you nothing. espcially if you and DH are O+, chances are the babies will be O+ also, though they could be O-.

Thank You!! And same here with the hat thing. Even I can't tell them apart at first glance when they have hats on. Thank You everyone for replies and input! So now when people ask me if they are identical - I can answer " I think so!" Thank You!!!!!
