    hi
I am new here(just found out about the website) back round on me: I am 15 weeks 3 days pg with identical boys!!! i already have a 20month old boy(gavin). Well here is my situation so far. I had an u/s yesturday and twin A is measuring 15 weeks and twin B is measuring 15 weeks 4 days. the peri adb that Twin A's umbilical cord was hard to follow and they believe its placement is through the membranes and then goes to the placenta. the peri adv this is why Baby A is measuring smaller. she said the amniotic fluid is measuring great on both, so no signs of ttts as of yet(hopefully never) have any of you had this situation or heard of it? another question, are you ladies drinking the protein shakes?
i am so happy i found this website!!!
    thanks again

:sign0016: to TS and congrats on the twins. My boys were fraternal so I had no cord issues or anything along that line, but they always measured from a few days to a week and a half different (although both always measured ahead of my due date). Enjoy the pregnancy!

    Welcome! Congrats on your twins!

I can't offer any info on your cord question, but I do use protein shakes. I use Boost High Protein. Chocolate is my favorite and they have to be really cold. I drank lots of them up until 16 weeks because it was about the only thing I could keep down. Now I just use one a day. I'm glad I'm still using them because I've only gained about 12 pounds so far.

Hi! I'm not 100% sure if it's the same thing, but my Baby B (identical girls) has side cord insertion into the placenta. My Doctors are always careful to check her and make sure it's not affecting her, and so far, nothing abnormal! It was just one more thing to be concerned about, since they're sharing a placenta...but so far, so good! Good luck with everything!!

I have identical girls. One of my girls has a cord that is inserted into the membranes as well. This is called velamentous cord insertion. She also has a 2 vessel (as opposed to 3 vessel) cord. I believe that this makes things a little higher risk for TTTS, which we have and are being monitored closely for. In our case, that baby measures about a week behind the other one, but it could be because of the cord insertion, or the two vessel cord or the TTTS, or all of the above. Who knows! I've been on bedrest since 18 weeks because of the TTTS and all other factors, and also drinking the boost high protein drinks.

The thing about the velamentous cord insertion is that you want to meak sure it's not near your cervix, because if your water breaks (near your cervix), it could break those blood vessels and put the baby at risk (I believe this is called vasa previa). But, I don't have that, and you probably don't either.

I would advise you to be monitored closely for TTTS, take it easy, and boost protein/water intake to see if you can prevent TTTS.

Good luck and PM my anytime if you need any more info!

Both my girls had improper side cord placement in mirrored spots. Jessy had a 2 vessel cord which is why she was so small. We had extra monitoring(via u/s twice a week to measure blood flow thru the cord) to make sure Jessy was healthy and still growing and once she stopped growing we delivered them.
