I was told that my boys would be faternal becuz they had two sacs & two placentas, but there blood types are both the same as mine (O) positive. When they were born they looked very id to me and when any one see them they think they are id. Do any one know anything about this?

There is a 25% that di/di twins (meaning seperate sacs/placentas) could be ID. I was told that my twins were fraternal b/c they shared nothing. Luckily during my pregnancy I ran across this number and knew there was a chance. After they were born they had the same blood type, hair/eye color and we could not tell them apart. When they were 4 months old we had them DNA tested and they are ID. Have your babies tested, they sound ID. It is very rare for siblings to have the same blood type so that is a huge flag that they are ID.

The only way to know for sure is a DNA test. But if you post pictures, we'll all give you an opinion!!!

Except in the case of type O. O is always recessive, so to have type O, both parents had to have and pass on the O blood type. Which means that Mom's genes are OO, and dad is either OO, AO, or BO.

My mom and dad are both OO, therefore, all my siblings and I share the same blood type, OO.

Have them tested, my boys didn't share anything and they have the same blood type. I had them tested and they are ID.

Hey there! I was thinking about YOU last nite!! I was hoping you are doing well. (I remember your "look at me I'm huge" post).

It's VERY hard to tell when they are THAT little. Can you share a few other pics of them uncovered?? It might be easier if we can see ears, nose and eyes open.

Hope you are all doing well. How old are they now??

I can't believe Dr.'s are still telling women that! I had my boys 5 years ago and was told the same thing. I learned on my own back then that I still had a chance of having identicals. My boys indeed are Id and were di/di. The only way you are going to find out for sure is through a DNA test. We did it at around 6 months of age. I just couldn't stand not knowing for sure. :)

    They could be ID!

I just wanted to say that 30% of ID twins are di/di. That's NOT the same as saying 30% of di/di twins are ID. I think the actual changes of them being ID are lower than that, but happens all the time!

Mine are ID (they were mo/di) but I think they look so different! other people don't though.

I didn't know it was rare for siblings to have the same blood type. The boys are both A neg. So maybe they are id...who knows :)

my di di girls are identical, we did DNA testing at 2 months, really easy, just swab their cheeks and send away, they matched 15 out of 15 DNA markers, we used affiliated genetics.

My sister's twins were also di/di with the same blood type and she had them tested and they are id... get them tested- I'm such an advocate for this. My twin and I never knew what kind of twins we were and it was so frustrating because it's the question that as a twin you get asked all the time. We found out through a DNA test at age 34 (I think) that we're id and it's so great to answer that question with certainty!
It's hard to tell from that pic if they're id or not, can you post more- we're pretty good here at predicting zygosity!! :)

Actually, it isn't rare at all for them to have the same ABO type. What IS rare is with a complete blood analysis (I think it's 29 markers) to have a full match unless they are ID. I don't think they perform full blood screens anymore (except for something like an organ transplant) because DNA testing is relatively inexpensive and more accurate.

And yes, I also have ID twins who were di/di.

My boys have the same blood type as well, but we have always been able to tell them apart. Strangers think they are ID if they are wearing matching outfits, but if not, they see differences. I think if you think they look a lot a like, get the testing. I've been trying to convince my DH to do it for 6 months. Our deal is that if their eyes are different by time they are a year old, we won't test, but if they are the same, I'm doing it w/ or w/out his financial blessing. If your DH wants to know, do it as soon as you can. Save yourself some breath (and frustration) trying to explain to strangers that you don't know. Everyone who asks us gets an education in twins and their placentas from me.
