ID twins, just now look alike.

My boys are 4 1/2 months old on Thursday, and until about a week ago were extremely easy to tell apart. One had all the hair, while the other was bald. NOBODY thought they looked alike. In fact, people looked at me like I was crazy when I told them they were ID (family included). Now all of a sudden, my "hairy" one lost all of his hair, and it's slowly getting harder and harder to tell them apart, especially since we haven't had to worry about it until now. I keep confusing them, and feel awful about it. Is this common? I guess my fear is that one of these days, I will completely lose who's who and forever mix them up. Pretty bad.

Mine went through phases like that and still do. Most days they look completely different to me b/c they have a size difference, but if one has a growth spurt, I do lots of "double takes". I started dressing them in the same colors when I had a choice. Ryan usually wears anything in the blue family and Jake wears the other colors. It's the same with their cups and snack cups. Now they know the difference too and if Jake has something that is blue they will switch. If you get really worried about confusing them, you can always do the toe nail polish trick!

Yes, I think it's pretty common. We got the girls ears pierced and gave each of them different colors so that way everyone can easily tell them apart.

We do the same here. Although mine aren't confirmed on being ID (haven't ordered the test yet...but everyone thinks they are including me, now, since I get them mixed up sometimes unless I'm paying attention), we never questioned them being anything other than fraternal at birth because they looked different. It's amazing what womb position and head shape can do to one's appearance, plus J's hair was longer until they got their first haircuts at 13 months old. As they got older, they looked more and more alike...L usually wears/uses items in the blue family (and now yellow because he loves yellow) while J usually uses/wears the other colors.

mine did that. they looked nothing alike up until about 4 or 5 months, then suddenly they looked so much alike that we had a hard time telling them apart. now they're back to looking very different to us (but alike to strangers)

edit: found a photo. it was at 5 1/2 months, 4 months adjusted.

Ours are identical confirmed due to TTTS. But I can tell them apart. Most people ask how we do it, well right now they are a pound apart in size so that helps alot!! But really I see subtle differences in them, I think though as they get closer in size they are going to be hard.

Yes, when mine were born and they said, mono-di on placenta I laughed it off, they looked nothing alike. Their head shapes were totally different and even their skin tones were different. About 3-4 months they started to look alike. The one with the smaller head caught up and started to look more and more like her sister. By 9 months I couldn't tell who was who if someone else had put them down to sleep. They've always had differnt facial expressions and looks in their eyes, so awake no problem, but asleep exactly alike.
