    Hello,

I'm brand new to this website and happy to find you all! I have 12 week old identical twin girls who were born at 34 weeks 2 days. They came early because one was growing slower than the other and I developed severe preeclampsia so the doctors said it was time. My girls looked very little alike when they were born because they were almost a pound different (4lbs and 5lbs). Now, at 12 weeks they're only about five ounces apart in weight but they still don't really look alike facially. It's obvious they're siblings, but one has larger ears and smaller eyes, the other has a bigger overall head and fuller lips.

Does anyone else have identical twins that don't look identical? Or, did your twins start out looking different and then grow to look more alike as they got older?

I don't really care if my girls look alike or not, just wondering if they'll grow to look like each other or whether their size difference at birth means they'll always be somewhat different looking.

    Thanks!

My ped says that my girls are the most identical looking twins he has every seen. I personally think it varies month to month. I think one month they are easy to tell apart, then the next month, it seems to be harder. People in my family have even made the same comment.

I agree with Jen. My girls looked so much a like when they were little, we always got the confused. Luckily Alivea has a birth mark so that helped find who was who. Then they started looking different, well at least to the people that saw them the most. Now they look so much alike again. I am getting them confused again lol! I still think they look a slightly different, enough that I can tell them apart. Alivea has a round face with sqinty like eyes (she looks more like me) and Kaytlin has an oval face with big, round eyes like her daddy. But they are still close enough that my dad cant even tell them apart lol!

    Congratulations and welcome to TS!

My ID boys looked nothing alike at birth. One was 2lbs bigger so it made a really huge difference. Now, at 2 years old, I mix them up sometimes. The older they get, they look more alike. :)

My ID girls were only 3 oz apart at birth and I didn't think they looked alike. I still don't think they do but no one but my DH and I can tell them apart. Even he mixes them up when they aren't right next to each other. Jordan has smaller features and smiles all the time. Mackenzie has chubbier cheeks and is more serious, a little on the shy side. But even their hair is the same - same length, color, texture. At least I know who is who!

I didn't think mine looked at all alike when they were born! Same as you there was 1/2 pound difference and J had a very red face for a long time! As they got older they started looking more and more alike! Grandparents are lucky if they guess right they still have problems! :D

In the first few months, my girls didn't look ID like they do now. It took some time for them to grow into it. It's very hard for me to tell my girls apart. Lauren has a small hemangio on her tummy. That's the only way besides personality that we can tell.

My ID girls were only 3 oz apart at birth (now they're two lbs different!) but looked very different.I've never had trouble telling them apart. Now four months, they are starting to look more similar, but still have very different hairlines, and head shape. But in photographs depending on the angle they look quite a like. My sense is that it will change a lot and once the weight difference resolves (given what a big % of total weight the variance is), that they will probably look more alike.

most of all, congrats on your twins' birtha nd welcome! This is a GREAT website!
