ID or frat?

our boys were mono/di and the perinatal specialist felt he saw the single placenta early enough that it was surely not two that had fused. it's not that i don't trust him, but i feel like they look very different. yes they have very similar features but what's most notable to me is their complexions. owen is fairer than jacob both in skin pigment and hair color (although that could be because owen has so much less hair). it seems like something like skin pigmentation would have to be the same if they're ID.

owen is smaller and his head was more tapered than jacob's when they were born. i try not to let that throw me off. what do you think?

my personal opinion is that these boys are frat or i'll eat my hat! we will be doing a DNA test at some point, of course.

I vote for ID. We don't see them every day like you do, so I'm sure it is easier for us to tell. I think my boys look different although everyone else has a hard time telling them apart. Also, the older mine get, the more they look alike.

Let us know the results of the DNA test!

I can't count the number of mom's that swear their ID twins are Frat., Even those who say they "know" they are Frat., they often don't look it to me. Fraternal twins look nothing alike and never get confused by anyone as ID, unless they are just one of those people. Unless you get a DNA test, you'll never know for sure unless they have a different blood type or are of different sexes! My son is friends with a set of Frats. and immediately no one thinks they are twins at all, ever. They sort of have a family resemblance, but just barely.

I would trust your peri if he says they are mono-di, because they look like carbon copies to me. Ask your OB if they sent the placenta to pathology. That may give you a clue. Also, they often don't tell you they sent the placenta off, so you need to ask. Good luck!!

They are SOO FREAKIN' CUTE!!! I've ordered my DNA test and I've been asking since the boys were born. If you know you want to test, just do it now. I'm voting ID. Their eyes, nose and lips are the same.

They're identical. Testing would be a waste. TOTALLY ID without any doubt. FYI: all of us ID moms feel like you do!!

I can see why you'd doubt it, because you can tell them apart right now. But if you look at them feature by feature, you can tell they're identical.

 

I have felt the same way about my mono/di boys, as well. I vote ID for your adorable cutie-pies!!!!

 

DH is more convinced than i am that they're frat. i told him that everyone on TS thinks they're identical and he said, "then they're all crazy!" i have a feeling he'll even doubt the DNA test results when we do get around to doing the test.
