Good morning all. Here is my delima. When we got pregnant with our twins last year it was through IVF. We had 4 embies transferred on day 3. One of them was a perfect embie. The best we have ever had according to the embryologist. Ok, so we got pregnant and I had my u/s at 9 weeks I think and found out we were having twins. They have always been very close together in the womb. So close that it was hard to see the membrane that seperated them. They did have seperate sacs and placentas. Now that they are here I could swear that they are ID. They look exactly alike, even down to the swirl of their hair. They both have the same sickle cell trait that I do and I think they also have the same blood type. If anyone can give me some advice that would be great. We had to buy them bracelet with their names on them since even we get them mixed up. It was easier before because Zachary was always a little bigger than James, but James is catching up and is only 8 ounces lighter now. Thanks in advance. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/vyckie72/Picture598-1.jpg
Wow, what cutie pies! They sure look ID to me! I would go with a DNA test just to put your mind to rest.
they look ID to me but i would definitely consider doing a DNA test if it's important to you to know for sure.
Thanks ladies for the quick response. I did order the DNA kit from the twinstuff store but I haven't received it. But it's also kind of pricey so we may need to save up for it to be sent in.
I'm not sure how the DNA test from the TS store works, but we used www.dnasolutions.com to order our test. It was only $99. I debated for 16 months whether mine were ID or not and after finally testing they ARE. They still look totally different to me, but there is a big weight difference and it's mostly in their face. Mine have the same hair pattern too. Do you have a bday or anniv. coming up soon that you could ask for it as a gift? I used $ I got at Christmas for ours. I couldn't stand not knowing! P.S. I've gotten really bad at figuring out if babies are ID or not, but I'm thinking yours are ID. :good:
I am really bad at this, but yours do look ID to me. I can say with confidence that they are absolutely adorable!
Thanks, I do have a birthday coming up. I'm going to check out the website you gave me. That is cheaper than the twinstuff store one. They were talking like 200. Thanks again.
Here is a more recent picture of them when they are awake. This is from the 4th of July parade. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/vyckie72/Picture604-1.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/vyckie72/Picture603-1.jpg
They're still sooo little, it's very hard to say. But if YOU are saying you think they are--- then they must be! I'd do dnasolutions too that's the cheapest I've seen They're very cute and in the first one, look very much alike but sleeping babies usually do. The other ones, they look similar but I just can't tell!!
When they were newborn, mine looked very much alike, especially when they were sleeping. We had to compare them really well to see which one is which. Now we can definitely tell who is who, but others can't. Well, maybe they can see the difference but still don't know which one is Peter and which one is Paul. Give them a couple of months and you may also notice that they start to look different, or not I guess only the DNA test can tell us if they are ID or FR, if they really look alike.
We have a similar situation. Our little guys are 5 weeks old and wow do they look alike. Everyone swears they're identical. We didn't have IVF or use any fertility drugs, but they did have their own placenta and sac. We did find out that it is possible for them to be identical, it just depends on how early the embryo splits. Well, I'm not one for waiting and watching. I'm just far to curious, plus everyone and their brothers ask us if their identical and I'd really like to be able to tell them simply.. yes or no. So we ordered a zygosity test and we are waiting on those results at this very moment. They aren't to expensive, less than $200. There are several genetic testing companies, just do a google search for zygosity testing. We use Proactive Genetics. Total cost $160 and they send the kit to you, you swab cheeks and mail it back, super simple. Hope this helps.
They are cute they look ID to me. Curious to see what the dna says. Im not sure if ours are id either saving for the test myself.
Thank you everyone for all of your advice and thoughts. We are going to do the DNA test just to know for sure. I will post as soon as I am able to save up the money for the test and get it done.
They are definetly adorable!! The first pic really looks ID, but the third one has me questioning it! I do think they are ID but I can't wait for you to have the test done to know for sure!
Well considering that I have never received the testing kit I may just take you at your word. Thanks for all of the input ladies.
Oh bummer. You can always wait until they are older and see if they start to look more and more different.
We settled it when the boys were about 4 months old. We also used dnasolutions.com. I was very impressed with the company. Our boys turned out to be identical. They too had separate sacs and placentas. Best $99 we spent in a long time. I totally think yours are ID!
They should have done a test when they were in the hospital. Mine looked the same too when they were born, but the test proved they were FR. Ask your pediatrician, they should have those results.

They look ID to me AND so Adorable!! Can't wait to find out what they are for sure! Also, mine have the sickle cell trait that you mentioned.
I guess DNA solutions has raised their prices. The tests are 139 now. Oh well gotta love the economy. LOL.
Oh, they are SO cute! They look pretty ID to me, but, I'm not good at guessing! TSer - I have never heard that hospitals test for you. Is that common where you are from?
First..... they are soooo cute. :yahoo: Second.... they look identical to me as well. Third....maybe the pathology department ran tests on placenta, etc. (they did with mine and it was determined there was one placenta, identical twin girls!). I was happy our hospital does that type of testing. :shok: Third.... IVF transfers have a high rate of identical twinning. Fourth..... Congratulations hope your question will be confirmed somehow. :good:
Thank you all on your comments and compliments. I really appreciate it and it makes me feel so happy as a mommy. LOL. Of course I think my boys are cuties, but it's always nice to hear others think the same.
