I finally go out for a little excursion today... to pick up a prescription, get lunch and return something. And now my kids did not take their afternoon nap and I am sure my night is going to be ****. It makes me NOT want to go anywhere because when I have tried this in the past... same situation. What are you supposed to do???? Very frustrated. Help.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do. Just make a nice warm bath, using some of that Night Time Bath soap. Make them as comfortable as you can tonight and feed them well and they may just surprise you and sleep a lot longer than you think they will. (I hope anyway [IMG])

I think that I read if you sacrifice your life for establishing good sleep patterns now it pays off big time in the future.. that's how I justify having to stay home so much.

I essentially get two good naps in (9a and 1p) and then I feel ok if I run out to the store with them after the 2nd nap.

Weissbluth says that if you have good sleep patterns that are the same every day, then the babies will not take so long to get back on track when you do have something that takes you away from the daily routine (a special outing, a trip, etc.)

I sure hope all this sacrifice pays off ;-) Good luck.

One thing I have heard from other moms is that they work hard to keep their kiddos from sleeping in the car while htey are out so that they don't mess up the nap schedule. I've not been successful at doing that yet -- if I'm within 30 min of nap time, one of them will fall asleep in the car, argghh.

The night wasn't too bad but from 2 - 7 it wasn't so good. My kids will be 8 months and after being indoors pretty much straight since my bedrest in April 06 - for their health and my sanity we need to get out.

Sounds like they got over-exerted during the outing.

As rough as it sounds... I had to schedule my day around their naps when they were little. I didn't go out before a nap, because that would always mess them up, but IF I had to... I would go during their nap and they would sleep in the car.

I am the same as one of the PP: I don't go out usually unless it's after their second nap. They usually take 2 naps a day (9am and 1pm) and then go to bed at 6:30pm. I feel like they do better on outings after their second nap, meaning they stay awake and look around at everything. If I go before their naps, then I make sure it is a very quick outing. Like the PP said, I am home at least 30min. before their naptime b/c they WILL fall asleep in the car.

I feel the same way as you, in that I am held captive here sometimes. But, I know that my babies love their naps and they love their naps in their cribs. I hope that your night wasn't too bad! I am sure they will bounce back like nobody's business!!!

Mine are younger so fall asleep even easier when outdoors. Yesterday I had them take 2 good naps (1 1/2 hours and 3 hours), they woke at 2 pm, then I went out, did my things, and had them in bed at 6 pm. My girl was still very tired (had trouble drinking her bottle) and woke during the night. She might have been hungry though, she only had 4 bottles since she sleeps through and took long naps. So I still need to find a solution for that.
