I was so scared!

My girl was really upset this evening while I was getting her ready to go to bed. She was crying, I think mainly because she's very attached to her Daddy and he's the one who does the bedtime routine with her and he's out of time today. Part of her bedtime routine includes putting saline up her nose to unclog it which she doesn't enjoy at all. So she's crying and at one point she stopped making any sound or breathing, got all blue, with her mouth wide open but no sound coming out. I was so so so scared. I picked her up and held her and begged her to start crying and she did.
I know babies do this sometimes but mine had never done it.
Now she's sleeping (it's 7:30pm on this side of the world) and I keep going to check on her.
Please reassure me that she's fine. I know this might sound silly to you but I still can't get over it.

:hug99: That sounds like a scary experience, I'm sorry she did that. I have no experience with that, just wanted to send some hugs. :hug99:

:hug99: DS has stopped breathing for a few seconds when he gets really upset but he has never turned blue. It is really scary but he always goes right back to normal once I've calmed him back down. She should be just fine, but if you feel better by going in and checking on her then do it. It's a mommy's right to worry about her babies.

That would have scared the crap out of me too. I'm a worrier by nature anyway. Glad to know that she's ok. :hug99:

Hugs! Hugs! No experience here either - just sending hugs! I would have been out of mind scared!! Will you call the ped?

Thanks for your support. I wasn't thinking of calling the pedi because it all happened so quick and was finished fairly fast as well. When she started back crying she wasn't gasping for breath so maybe it was my idea she stopped breathing. Also, after that we cuddled she drank her milk we cuddled some more and then when in bed she chatted with her sister for sometime so all in all everything was normal very quickly. I'll stress about it some more and maybe call the pedi in a little while. don't want to exagerate.

Its scarey. Lauren did this ALOT when she was mad(about 2 years of age and younger). She stop breathing and literally pass out from it, and start breathing again.

:hug99: Yes it is scary. Both my boys have these breath holding episodes when they are either really angry or hurt. They both turn blue, and Nick will usually pass out, but not always. It's something they don't do on purpose, and if she passes out, she will immediately breathe again because that's just what her body will do. If she does it again, if you blow toward her mouth, she should take a breath again.

Seriously, it scares me everytime. But, I also am at the point where if I see them crying and not breathing, I watch to see if I need to catch and blow, or if they will breath on their own. Sorry it had to happen, especially when you were home alone.

Ok I feel better that it's not just my child doing this. Heather thanks for your advise about blowing into her mouth. I was wondering what I could have done although she started crying and breathing real soon on her own.
I just went in picked the poor girl out of her crib and just held her for a little while. I don't think I've ever done that before. I just wanted to hold her and hear her breathing nice and smoothly.
She's so attached to her Daddy it's incredible! Another time she was away when it got to bath time and I was the one giving the bath she got so upset she vomited all over me. that was the one and only time she's ever vomited! She's fine when he's away all day till it's bedtime because I guess that's his time with them and she really looks forward to that.
Well with me getting on with my pregnancy and the new baby arriving he won't be out of town as much and we don't have to go through this drama.
Thanks for your supprot ladies. it means the world to me.
