I was thinking back to when i had my 2 and i remember one of the midwifes saying that my placentas had fused together after she had delivered everything! I didnt think to ask as i was kinda exhausted and wanted to sleep! Does anyone know what this means? Did anyone else have this happen? Could this be the reason Sophie (baby b)was smaller than Jack? If i had gone longer with them would this have caused any problems? Sorry i know so many questions!Someone brought it up in the expecting forum and it got me thinking again. I know it shouldnt really bother me now as they are both here and heealthy but i always wondered x

My placentas were also fused, and had been at least since 20 weeks, which is when we found out it was twins. The placentas grow together. My babies were 1.5lbs apart in weight at birth, and I do believe that having the placentas fuse, can cause one baby to get more nutrition than the other, causing the weight differences. Hope that helps! [IMG]

    Hi,

I dont know but mine had fused and I have boy/girl twins. Thomas(B) was 5lb 2oz at birth and Faith(A) was 5lbs 11oz at birth.

As for it causing problems if you went longer I'm not sure how long you went. I delivered at 37weeks 1day and did not have any problems because of the fused placentas.

Mine were fused as well. I delivered at almost 38 weeks, 7 lbs 13 oz & 7 lbs 9 oz. They didn't mention that it could cause any problems, actually the doctors acted like it was very common.

I had them at 32.4 weeks. Yeah i had no problems either both babies were healthy but small but always wondered is it was significant. Thanks for that every1. Sometimes i wish i had as good as doctors as you did as you all seem to know alot more about twin pregnancies than i did. I dont know if it was me not asking enough questions or just the doctors not bothering to tell me. Thank you for all your input x

My placentas also fused. The docs said it was common but they did have to watch the weight discrepancy between the boys. they wanted to make sure that they were within 20% of each other. It did cause one to be 8.3 and the other to be 5.11. But they were both healthy so the docs didnt seem too fussed about it.

Mine also fused togeather, the doctor said it was common as well. they did say they had to watch the weights though to make sure one was not getting more then the other my girls came out healthy at 4.15 and 5.14.

My placentas were fused as well. All along we were told we had fraternal boys in there. Then, they were born- 1 fused placenta and 2 cords. They sent in the placenta and our boys turned out to be identical. I actually asked to look at my placenta and cords-- coolest thing I have ever seen and amazing that-- that thing is what kept my boys alive inside of me for 8 months.

My placentas had fused by the time the babies were born, my midwife only mentioned it in passing so it must not be a big deal. (At least in my case.)

I've never seen a placenta, but my DH says they look like meat pancakes. (YUCK! [IMG])

Sorry if this grosses anyone out but... I have a picture of my Placentas that my mom took after the delivery. Kinda gross but still very amazing. Not that the babies will ever want to see them but they will always be there just in case.

I totally wanted to see my placentas, and my OB knew it. But then I went so early and was delivered by the perinatalogist, had 1 vaginal and 1 section and by the time I remembered the placentas, I'm sure they were in a bag of medical waste headed to New Jersey. [IMG]
