So I pump at work. A colleague just had a baby and she was in my office visiting. Another woman on our floor stopped by to say hello. I rarely have people in my office, so I don't put all my pumping stuff away every time. So it was sitting on the shelf where I had left it when I just finished pumping. This other woman sees the bottles and says, "Oh, you are still pumping. I see you are a really poor producer. That must be difficult for you."

Huh?!? I didn't even know what to say.. so I didn't say anything. I should have said, "Well actually I'm feeding TWO babies, so I think I'm doing just fine..."

Really... some people... you just have to wonder...

Oh my God! I don't know what I would have said, but I probably would have spent the rest of the day coming up with comebacks!! First off, "well, how many babies did you feed at one time?"...

Good for you for pumping for so long!

Seriously- your post blew me away. What in the world is wrong with some people. She comes into YOUR office, butts into YOUR business and then insults you with a comment that she knows NOTHING about. You are a better woman than I for keeping your mouth shut and being the mature one. Hugs- you are doing great!

    Unbelieveable! :woah:

I think I would have been so pi$$ed off I would have had to say something. Even if it was later, and to the effect of "Im sure you werent trying to be hurtful but I wanted to let you know I pump for my TWINS who are 8.5 months and they are actually quite happy with my production".

    Im mad for you!

Actually, that doesn't even make sense. What is she talking about? I think I may have told her that it's better than being an "over-producer of diarrhea of the mouth", but still ....HUH? Did she time your session, count your ounces? I'm confused. People are dumb. Don't let her or her comments rent space in your head.

 Oh that's a GREAT one!! Yeah, I can never think of anything on the spot... wish I would have thought of THAT!!

And yeah, I was starting to respond... "well, I nursed right before I left the house...then I pump first thing when I get to work, so my first session is usually smaller than the rest, blah, blah, blah..." and then I realized...what am I doing? I'm not going to justify my supply to this woman!?!

Thanks for the support ladies! I can laugh about it now... but I was MAD yesterday!

OMG. That's about as polite and appropriate as one guy checking out another guy at the urinals and saying, "Hm, must not be very good in the sack, eh?" Yikes! I'm glad you're laughing about it today, I'd probably still be fuming!

That's about the dumbest comment I've ever heard. If you're at work, even if you only had one, it would be logical to pump while you're away from your baby. She obviously doesn't have a clue.

Good for you for being so strong - I probably would have justified and then been mad at myself for doing it. You are absolutely amazing to be nursing/pumping for twins and working full time. It makes you wonder if this woman even has kids...there's no way she could have BF them and still be that insensitive. Maybe she was a "poor producer" and gave up...unbelievable. I'm still in shock.

actually, to empty my breast (one nurses, one doesnt) in the morning takes me a full hour because I'm so full. and every 4 hours, it's 30 minutes. I know a lot say to pump only 15 minutes, but in order to empty my breast with 6-8oz it takes twice as long. my breast has to make twice as much to satisfy one baby. So when WIC or LC tells me to pump every 2 hours 15 minutes, I'd rather not as my DD doesn't eat that often anyways, plus every 2 hours I'd be stuck to a pump? I don't think so!!! So if that lady walked in on me and said something like that, I don't know how I would have reacted. There are so many times I fill up a bottle, pour it into the baby's bottle and continue to pump with the now empty bottle. So sometimes it makes people think I've only pumped out an ounce in 20 minutes or so, when that's not the case.

Apparently some women have no idea, but that woman was tactless as well as an imbecil!!!!
