about wether the twins are identical or not! [IMG]

my boys are nothing alike and I know they are not id. This worker at JC Pennys today was admiring them and giving the usual chatter that we are all used to. Then the inevitable question of wether they are identical or not. I told her "no." She then proceeded to tell me...
"those eyes, that hair, those adorable faces...I'm sorry to tell you lady but they are identical!" I said (calmly mind you)..."he has brown eyes and he has blue eyes, therefore they can not be identical."

So far, this is the strangest thing that has happened to me with the boys...the tone of her voice was so condensending towards me...Like I was such an idiot for not thinking they were identical! [IMG]

Oh well, just wanted to share another idiot moment [IMG]

It's always funny to me how strangers will think they know better than we do as moms. I have actually had strangers ask me if my twins (obviously boy & girl) are identical & when I said "no, they are a boy and a girl" they have actually asked if I was sure they weren't identical! [IMG] Sometimes I think people must have slept through biology class. [IMG]

Mine look nothing like each other and I've had to go through this debate! Different size, hair and eye colour, features, everything different and people have insisted they look exactly the same! Sometimes I feel that every time I go out with the girls an idiot moment is guaranteed!

Ditto for me, although my girls have the same beautiful big blue eyes. I cannot STAND the identical debate. As if these people are sooooo much smarter than you...the mom. Seriously!!!! Oh well, that's society for ya! [IMG]

I can't believe some of the things people say, I guess we just have to ignore them. We went to dinner lastnight and 3 of the workers asked if they were cousin's.

I get that all the time. But the other way around. My boys are identical.
People always try to find the differences.
They both have different weights and one of them lost alot of hair, so they do still look a little different.
But it's so annoying when I hear: "They look very different for being identical twins."
    All the time!

i feel for you- i have one blond hair blue eyes, one brown hair brown eyes,. and people still think they know more than a baby's own mother anyway. wow, what would we stupid people DO without all the advice of strangers? i wouldn't even know that the REAL reason i have twins is that they run in my husbands family!*& [IMG]

Yeah my SIL told me 2 days after the girls were born "Uh they are so not identical, look Gabby is heavier than Alex" [IMG] Some people just make the strangest assumptions and think they know more than the parents!

ps - my girls even have the same birthmark in the same spot.

You would not believe the comments I get, even though my twins are b/g. People just can't seem to understand that b/g twins cannot be identical. When we go out with all four of them, the questions and weird looks are never-ending!!!! I love it though [IMG]

I get it with b/g twins too and I just sorta chuckle and tell them "one has boy parts and one has girl parts" and look at them and then their light goes on! [IMG]

I wonder if she thought she was giving you a compliment? People are so funny. I actually mostly enjoy my run ins like that!! [IMG]

I have the opposite problem [IMG] people argue with me that mine aren't identical since Jazz is 3 inches taller and 5lbs heavier. Sometimes they even argue with me that they aren't twins!

I have had multiple people ask me if my boy/girl twins are identical...HA!! My DH and I are surprised how often that happens. I think what I have realized is that there is a large sum of the population that is pretty uneducated on basic genetics etc.

I've had the opposite issue, I ended up in a "discussion" with a grandmother that her grandsons were NOT identical and she insisted they were. This AFTER she showed me the picture of two boys, one with red hair and blue eyes and the other with brown hair and brown eyes!

Anyway... I get this all the time "I can see your boys are identical, now is she identical too?".... um.... nope.

    Here's one for you:

We have four children, three girls and one boy. My oldest daughter is 6yrs and the twins are 4yrs. I can't even begin to count the number of people who have asked me if they are triplets! My oldest daughter has a very extensive vocab not to mention she is obviously larger than the twins. People even asked this question when they were newborns and she was 2.5yrs (and they're still asking)! I mean, how do twins in infant carriers look anything similar to a walking 2.5yr old? Some people...they should really think before they let things come out of their mouths!

First of all, no one knows a baby like it's momma.

Second of all, we were all blessed with special children, they came in pairs (or sometimes three or more). People want to be touched by that specialness, and by talking to you, they are. They just occasionally take it a little too far. If you can understand that the specialness is what they are going after, it makes it much easier to let things slide.

Mine guys are b/g twins and a lady asked me (after I told her they were one of each) if they were identical, and I said no. She went on to tell me that, well...they are ALMOST identical [IMG]Poeple are so weird. I don't think that people contemplate what they are saying before they say it. I wonder if there is a dawning moment after they leave when they realize what they have just said. I know that I can be quite the idiot sometimes [IMG]

I had a run-in with a lady that insisted my boys were identical. Her reasoning? Boy twins are always identical. Girl twins are always identical. Boy/Girl twins are always fraternal. My boys couldn't be fraternal because then that would mean one of them was a girl, tee hee! [IMG] [IMG] I just smiled and nodded.

I don't mind most peoples weird comments anymore, as long as they aren't being rude. I'm sorry that lady was being condescending!

I just wanted to add - that I really love talking about my kids and I don't usually mind the oddities of strangers...it's just the tone that this lady took with me that was so bothersome...kwim?

Some of ya'lls stories are so darn funny! b/g identical twins!! LOL It really does take all kinds! [IMG][IMG]

mine are b/g twins and I generally dress my daughter from head to toe in pink or purple or some other pastel "girly" color, not to mention she has her ears pierced, and has the biggest brown doe eyes you've ever seen....I CONSTANTLY get people who say "oh you have 2 boys"...one of these days I'm going to haul off and tell them - yes this is my son and this is my transvestite!

People and their "beliefs" can be so strange! We went to swim class last week for the first time, and one of the moms said "their twins?" with a tone to her voice like there's no way they could be twins since they don't look alike.

Uh, not all twins are identical! I swear she thought twins had to look alike.

Same situation here with my two. It is so funny when people ask if they are identical. Don't people realize they have different parts? [IMG]

I really wouldn't have believed this thread (as far as how dense folks can be) until I took my twins out in public. One is a skinny little bird with brown hair and the other is a blond headed chubby lil newborn (as chubby looking as a 6lb baby can get). Anyway, we've gotten the id or fraternal question as well as "how do you EVER tell them apart?!?!" All I can say is "one has brown hair, the other has blond hair." What do you say beyond that?

We have several twins in my family so it is hard for me to see it as an oddity and understand why people will come within 2 feet of me until I am forced to make eye contact with them so they can talk about the twins. I am very introverted and I don't like feeling forced to be this extroverted person just because I happened to bake two babies at the same time. I hate the attention and I'm half ashamed to take my double snap and go in public because it is such a bus I feel it draws even more attention to the fact that I have multiples. I'm not a snobby person...I am just reserved.

I have had people argue with my that my boys are NOT TWINS [IMG] are you kidding me!!!!

mind you, I have had this conversation with about 7 different people..... [IMG]

They can't be twins....one has dark hair and one has blond hair
....that boy (twin A) is much bigger
....that boy (twin B) is much smaller
....that one is heavier (3 lbs)
    ....they don't look alike
....you are too short to have carried twins (be pregnant with them)
    ....they are wearing different outfits
....one boys is sleeping (I guess they have to do everything at the same time)

heck, the more that I think about it......the harder it is to believe!!!!!!!!!!

I guess that in my part of Illinois, all children born the same day, from the same mom....must do EVERYTHING at the same time, be the exact same size, and wear the exact same clothes or they are NOT TWINS AT ALL!!!!! No talk of being fraternal or Identical.....just twins or not twins.
