I wanted to crawl under the table

Yesterday we met my cousin, her husband, and their four year old daughter for dinner. We rarely see them; I think the girls have only met the husband once before. He's a good looking guy who could stand to lose about 15 pounds. All of his extra weight is carried in his stomach (do you see where I'm going with this?). He works out and is pretty proud of the shape he's in. At the end of dinner, he was leaning back in his chair and Piper yelled out very excited:

Mommy, Eddie has a baby in his tummy!

When I tried to remind her that only women have babies in their tummies, both Piper and Cricket took up the cause of convincing me that there was a baby in there. Cricket even went so far as to come over and examine Eddie's stomach and announce "Yup - that's a biiiiiiig baby."

Eddie played along but oh my, it was uncomfortable. Thank you toddlers!

Oh Tricia, I definitely would have wanted the ground to open up and eat me alive
One time, I was out with my BF and her oldest son...he might have been around 3 or 4 at the time and said to me, "So, Aunt Nancy, when you are going to have a baby?" My BF was mortified and I just laughed it off and told her that my mother asked me that question all the time
Glad Eddie was a good sport about it!

That is so funny...sorry for your uncomfortableness as I would have felt the same, but holy cow is that funny!

It is nice when they get a little bit older and you can start to teach them about comments that make people feel bad - but it takes awhile. Up until age 5 - we had a couple of embarassing moments - a lot of them fortunately towards me and my dh.

-I was cleaning my oldest teeth and she was starting to get lazy with tooth brushing - I told her that her teeth would start to turn yellow if she didn't clean them - she said like yours Mommy. I always thought I had good teeth, but I guess not!?!?!

-she asked my dh who had put on some weight if he was going to have twins like Mommy did.

-she asked my dh when his bangs would grow in - my youngest DD was starting to grow in nice but his still did not look good and he is old!!!!! It left my DH speechless!!! As I am sure you guessed, his hairline is starting to recede.

 Kids say the darndest things! I would have definately wanted to crawl under the table, too!

My nephew (is 3) was sitting in between myself and his mom (my SIL) the other day. He turned to me and patted my boobs and said "what's that?". I said that it was just extra padding that girls have up top. He turned and said "well she doesn't"...pointing to his mom who is pretty flat chested. We both had tears coming out of our eyes we were laughing so hard.

Oh no, that's too funny (only because it wasn't me). I would have crawled under the table myself.

OMG! Maybe it's a good thing I have such late talkers, LOL. Yeah, I can imagine you were mortified. But, I have to agree with whoever said it's so funny, but only because it wasn't me!

If only we got do-overs for moments like that! :rotflmbo:

(Could be worse, though - sometimes adults do it! Not long ago an acquaintance of mine said, "Hey, Holly, wow, are you pregnant again?" I just stared at her in amused disbelief, wondering how long it would be until she realized what she just said. Finally, her hand flew to her mouth and she turned beet red. But really, we both just had a great laugh about it.)

A great story of mine - a little boy I used to babysit was excited about getting a haircut: "I want a hole on the top, just like Daddy!"

OMG, that's my nightmare. Or (because most of my friends know that if I did get pregnant, it would be the unlikeliest of accidents) that a total stranger will ask me that.

To the OP, I'm glad your friend's husband played along! I would have been mortified too. (OTOH, maybe it will motivate him to lose that 15 lbs -- that would probably be my DH's reaction!)

I'm sorry. I can't even bring myself to add any p.c. fluff to my reply. Just
