I am soooooo itchy I can't even describe it!! I've put everything I can think of on. My ob suggested benadryl but that doesn't help at all! I vitamin e and cocoa butter on at night and leave it on thick so it can absorb, but it's not helping!

Did anyone experience this kind of itch? If so did anything help?!?!

    Thanks!

I had that much itching with my singleton. It was horrible. Sorry you are having the same problem. I used cortizone cream. With my twins I used a lotion that was to help keep you from getting stretch marks and it kept me from itching it was called revitol. It was awesome. Here is a link to the website.

Ice or cold packs worked for me. A COLD shower was blissful even though temporary.

Ha! Yep, and I ended up with that freaking awful pupps rash at the end of my pregnancy. The only thing that helped was ice in plastic bags, or a cold soft drink can. I never did it too long though, I felt guilty that I might be freezing my babies.

    Hi all,

I've been lurking for months trying to absorb as much information as I can. I'm expecting twin boys the first day in February.

Anyway, I can totally commiserate with you on the itchiness. Mine started out innocent enough, as if it was just dry skin. However, it became much worse in a matter of about 2-3 weeks.

My itchies started as a weird little rash on my lower back (around the small of my back). I thought it was dry skin, but then it got worse and spread. Within a week it was going down my buttocks, down my legs, ankles, etc. Another week and it was on my belly and chest.

My doc said it didn't look like PUPPPS, but he had me take a blood test for cholestasis. My tests came back fine, my liver is operating just fine. But no one could tell me what to do with the itching and rash-appearance. My doctor said 'oh well, maybe you could go to a dermatologist, but there's nothing you can really do... maybe you're having an allergic reaction to fabric softener'. It would get 100x worse at night, and I'd find myself waking up and scratching all over CONSTANTLY. I did a bunch of internet research, and here's what worked.

I showered a couple of times a day with Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap - just to stop some of the itchiness. I then used an anti-itch lotion - euceryn worked a little, also a combo of aloe vera and witch hazel (you can find this and the soap at Whole Foods or some other 'crunchy' store).

I also took Dandelion Root capsules. I think the tea might also work, but I went straight for the capsules. In the beginning I started with 3 dandelion root capsules twice a day (mid-morning, and evening). After about 4 days, the itching was definitely less, and the rash wasn't spreading. I'd say it's been about 2 weeks now, and I have no itchies and no rash. I'm completely back to normal. I still keep up with a small dose of dandelion root every day, just to keep everything at bay.

The dandelion root is supposed to help bolster your liver and gallbladder function. So even though my bloodtests came back normal, I was still suspicious that I needed a little help - carrying 2 babies can wreak havoc on your body! Skin rashes are sometimes indicative of a less-than-optimally-functioning liver.

I am not a doctor, so please talk to your caregiver first. Oh, also, a lot of reading showed me that most folks who get the rashes this bad (puppps, etc), tend to be carrying boys too. I had double-trouble! :)

Hopefully just lotion will work for you. But if it doesn't, talk to your caregiver. Make sure you have a test for cholestatis to make sure your liver is functioning correctly. And mention dandelion root, it worked for me.

I can sympathise - my scalp and shoulders got so itchy at about the 10 week mark and I'm still scratching them 8 weeks on. I have got so many people to check for head lice (I work at a Kindergarten) but there is nothing. It is awful.

I started using Cetaphil in the jar. I LOVE IT!!!! It does not make my skin sticky like the pregnancy lotions did.

It was a recommendation from a dermatologist.

    Good luck,
    Jenn

Palmers belly butter broke me out in hives so I used Avveeno with menthol to help heal it and help the itch which made it better and started using Burts Bees tummy butter.

I had it HORRIBLY when I was pregnant and that is an understatement. I lotioned, benadryl you name it. They finally put me on some pills because it was getting to the point where it would bleed.

I know it doesn't help to say this but it goes away right after delivery!

My Dr. told me to find a LANOLIN FREE lotion like Kerry (i think is the name) I found some Oil of Olay I think in the purple bottle, Quench is the name of it... it worked wonders. Something in the lanolin while preggo will help for a little while but in the end make the inching worse. HTH.

I have vitamin E cream and there is some lanolin in it I noticed last night. I'm starting to bleed too! I don't care that they are there or if the scar, I just need them to stop itching!!!

Towards the bottom of my stomach it actually looks like a tear in my skin. It's bad! I'm going to see if my OB can suggest anything else tomorrow. I want to try the Burt's bees because I love the chapstick, so I'm going to have someone look for that for me!

GRANDPA"S PINE TAR SOAP instantly took away the itch and rash for me. You can get it at your local health food store and also Dandelion Root Tea helps too. Mine started out as just an itchy stomach then I started to get some small bumps and the itch was unbearable. I believe I had puppps and the key is to keep it dry until it goes away, then use a light mositurizer. I was putting cream, cocoa butter, vitamin e and vasline on it and it make it worse. At first I washed my stomach 4x a day with the soap, then gradually decreased to once a day. The itch and rash went completley away in 3 days. I also drink 2 cups of dandelion root tea a day because it is supposed to help the liver get rid of the toxins which cause your skin to itch during pregnancy./ Just be careful b/c it is rich in vitamin A and you can overdose on vitamin a so my doctor said no more than 3 cups a day. Good luck, the soap and tea are so worth it and were the only things that gave me relieve. Hang in there and try not it itch because it makes it worse and will leave nasty scars! Ice packs and cold wash clothes also work well when you get the urge it itch!

She suggested not wearing jeans because those are the worst and most irritated ones. I told her I only get dressed for her because I'm on bed rest and don't see anyone else!!

But she did suggest hydro cortizone OTC cream, so I sent my bf to CVS, let's see what he comes back with!!

I would alternate the cortizone with something moisturizing. I use the Burt's Bee's Belly Butter. It feels great, but is not the best smelling, so don't put it on before going out. It's not stinky, just smells a big "organic."

 to you and hope you get some relief soon!

Oh I'm not going anywhere!!! lol

I sent my mom to look for the burts belly cream and she couldn't. So I'm hoping she will look somewhere else. I know bf won't go hunting for anything crazy so I have to rely on her! I do really want to try it though, so hopefully she can get it!
