ok so my twins have severe acid reflux diagnosed by the Dr last Tuesday diagnose by mom 2 1/2 months ago I had to throw a fit for him to check into it more but I could tell my babies were in pain.....Mekaila's been on enfamil AR since like 2 weeks old when I was supplimenting with my breast milk we put her on that cause everything else she would throw up.....ok well Jacob was on gentlease and was just put on the AR Tuesday cause of the results from the upper GI well he also put them on zantac 3 x a day well I just called him and told him they are throwing up more and seem to be having more acid reflux problems you can tell that's what's happening they just scream in pain so I called my ped. to ask about putting them on prevacid instead cause it seems worse.....but he tells me it has to do with the way i'm feeding them he told me last Tuesday I was feeding them ok Mekaila eat 5 oz at at time every 3 hours or so and Jacob eats 6 oz about every 3 hours and he said that was good now it's not WTF???? So he said just add more cereal to their bottle and that will help....they didn't throw up this bad before the meds so obviously that's not to do with how I'm feeding them...and I keep them sitting up 30-45 minutes..I'm so getting a new DR

I am so sorry that you are going through this, I totally understand why you are angry and I think it's a good idea to find a new doctor. It does not sound like your pedi is really listening to you! Good luck!

I would definitely change drs. Any dr who replies 'just add more cereal to their bottle' needs to go. You have every right to be angry. My friend's baby sounds like your babes but once on zantac he was much more comfortable and happier even though he was still throwing up (not quite so much) but she was happy with that. I would definitely get a second opinion.

no he's not listening and I know when my babies are in pain and I know they didn't throw up like this before the medicine so obviously it's not the way I'm feeding them.....he acts like I'm not doing things right and I do everything he says plus what I know to do....I just really want to go knock the crap out of him and say look I've been right every other time and I know I'm right now DO SOMETHING

honestly, just switch to another ped if you can. He obviously isn't listening, nor does he seem to really care. Sorry the babies are having a bad time. Hope something works soon.

I'm so sorry Brandi. We went through this as well with my ds. The doctor {specialist} we saw tried to say my son had neurological issues and then a high palate? :pardon: but just wouldn't put the blame on reflux. :( He scared the living daylights out of me with all his reasons to why my son wasn't eating. You need to put your foot down and don't give up lady. It's not how you are feeding them  and I'm so sorry he's making you feel like it's something you are doing to cause this. Get a new doctor, get a second opinion or I'm not sure what else... I demanded that the specialist give my son prilosec {he was older then your two at the time, and it was the only drug he hadn't tried} and over night my son became a new person. He had actually stopped eating all together {eventhough they say a baby won't let themselves starve, my son was the outcast on that, he was well on his way to the ER :(} and he had lost weight. After the new meds he started eating again. I wish you lots of luck woman, keep us updated!

i'm so sorry. our ped was extremely blasé about our boys' acid reflux issues, too. i had to push and push and push for him to really listen to my concerns. i will say that when he finally paid attention he was very helpful, if still a little less actively concerned than i would have liked. i wonder sometimes if these peds see so many babies that they just don't get concerned about some issues anymore. they forget that for us, these are our babies, and in some cases our ONLY babies.

we're currently using zantac, too. we started on the zantac but switched to prevacid when it seemed like the zantac was wearing off between doses. we used the prevacid for about a week but just switched back to zantac.

something for you to consider: we actually had more reflux episodes on the prevacid because our boys ended up with constipation and increased gassiness as side effects. we took them off of the prevacid on wednesday night after almost 4 days of no pooping, and sure enough by mid-day on thursday they both finally pottied and finally slept quietly for a few hours for the first time in days. these side effects aren't uncommon with prevacid so it's something to be aware of, although certainly many parents have had success with it. jacob and owen ended up doing a lot more straining, and the straining resulted in more frequent spit-ups. could you be seeing a similar effect in your babies? although zantac doesn't have the same side effects, i have read that any of the acid reducers can slow the digestive tract because the stomach environment is less acidic and doesn't break down food as fast. so they could be straining more and therefore spitting up more. just a thought.

we've also been trying to pay closer attention to their feeding signals. because babies will eat more from a bottle than they would at the breast, it can be easy to overfeed them. our little preemie guys were doing 3 oz every 3 hours, but we've started paying very close attention to their body language and we've found that they're actually content after about 2 1/2 on most feedings. i hope i don't jinx it by saying this, but we seem to have seen fewer incidents since we let them stop sooner.

although he wasn't kind in the way he said it to you, maybe this is what the ped was getting at.

Oh sweetie, how awful for you. Get a referral to a Gastroenterologist by hook or crook. I PROMISE that ped's can not take care of severe reflux babies, they are generalists.
