    *sigh*

last night ivana discovered she could climb out of the tall end of the crib. so we went to BRU and got guard rails and officially switched from cribs to toddler beds. i'm devastated, because i planned to keep them in cribs until they were 3!

i wrapped the playyard around the cribs to keep them away from all toys, but as i type this and one of my children just strolled out of her bedroom (it's naptime) and looked at me, i realize they can also climb over the play yard!!!

they have A TON of toys in their room and NO WHERE ELSE to put them... is naptime, as we know it, over?

    HELP ME!!!! :help: :gah:

:headbang:  :escape: :tease: :80: :drown:

I'd put them in the living room, dining room, heck even my bedroom lol. And maybe downsize so there are less of them to put somewhere else. And find a way to prevent them from opening the door...

    Good luck.

We had to make the switch at about 20 months b/c DD was climbing/falling out of her crib. It was a hard transition but now they nap and go to sleep at night just fine, leaving all their toys alone. We basically used the supernanny approach. the first time they get out of bed go in and without any reaction say 'we need to stay in our bed' as you put them back in bed. the next time, don't say a word and just return them to bed, repeat 500 times and eventually they will go to sleep. Each night the interval got shorter and now they just stay in bed most nights. We do alot of talking about how its nite nite time and its time to sleep, not play as part of our bedtime routine, less now that they have it down pat.

    Good luck!

NO, naptime is NOT over just because they are in beds. It will just take some transition time and you being in there to teach them that toys are off limits at naptime and they will get the point.

I agree with pp's. We just made the transition and it is still a work in progress. BUT...we still take naps around here. I second the supernanny approach. So, far so good here. DS gets out of bed often, but as long as I park it in the doorway (until he falls asleep) he usually stays put. We have been doing this since Thanskgiving day and honestly I don't have to park it in the doorway for naps anymore...only at bedtime. Hopefully, he will be used to the bedtime part of it soon. :unknw:

Haven't BTDT, and don't plan to for a long time(yay for crib tents!), but I do hope that you figure something out soon. I dread the day that naps cease. Good luck!!

It's a new world to them so like with everything else you've taught them along the way, you need to set the boundaries here too. if you have to, sit in their room at naptime until they fall asleep letting them know that it's not playtime. It can work for sure!!

Naps aren't over. But I would probably clear out their room except just a few toys, and like pp's said stay in the room until they fall asleep if they are playing in there. GL.

We just converted the cribs today and nap time was a nightmare with one dd. She would not stay put and kept pestering her sister who was completely exhausted from spending the night in the ER after falling out of her crib yesterday. I camped out at the door with it cracked open so I could see inside and every time she got up I went in and put her back. She screamed and had major tantrums but finally after about 6 times she settled down. I'm not looking forward to bedtime.
