so i was sitting here thinking about how my family and my husband's families and friends reacted to the twin announcement, and i wondered...hmmmmm i bet some girls on TS have some good stories! so here we are ladies, share em!

my husband and i found out we were having twins at our first OB appointment because he does a u/s at the first visit. before we went in for the the exam and u/s we talked to my doc to get to know him. he told us about his history as an OB and told us about his family and asked if we had any questions. well i wanted to know what our chances were of having twins since my grandfather is a twin (nobody in my mom's generation had twins, i dont even know if that matters). he told us that he was going to be straight forward and not get our hopes up and that the chances were slim especially since we're so young (i'm 19 and my husband is 20), we weren't on any fertility treatments, and it was my first pregnancy. so we finally make our way in to the exam room and (you know the drill...get undressed, then probed, then you can see your baby(ies). he starts the u/s and says man thats a big baby (i was 13 weeks), wait thats two big babies!!!! and the nurse that was in there had only seen text book pictures of twin u/s so she goes OMG thats so cool! ha and then the entire office is buzzing about the young couple with the twins and they all want to see our u/s pictures. now everytime i have an appointment, the nurses and receptionist all are waiting when i get out of the exam room to see if i have more pictures. ha

so now for the family reactions...my husband had to get back to the base and get back to work so we were in separate vehicles and decided i would tell my family and he would tell his. i called my parents and told them to put me on the speaker phone and said guess what, mom you're gonna have to make me two baby quilts now! and they were shocked and in awe and thought i was joking at first but once they saw the pictures they were really excited. half way through my call to my parents my mother in law calls (i didnt answer, my parents are more important) well i called her back and she was like ok is mike playing some cruel horrible joke on me or are you really having twins?? she was like you need to tell me so i can be excited or know if i need to kill him the next time i see him. i said no rhonda theres two babies. and she was like omg omg omg thats so awesome. omg, i have to get off here and start calling people to tell them!
the weird part is two or three weeks before i went for my first appointment mike and i were at walmart shopping and this old guy stopped us and asked if he could pray for us. so we said yeah sure! and he prayed that my husband wouldnt be deployed anytime soon and that our twins would be born healthy. at that point i was thinking, twins!?! this guy is nuts. anyways he was right!

anyways theres my loooooooong post about the twin news, now bring those stories on!!!!

What a GREAT story!! I love hearing stories like that. Especially the part about the man praying for you and knowing you would have twins!!

As for me, fraternals run in my family but my Mom wasn't one of them, and she didn't have any twins. I have 2 sets of twin aunties and a set of twin cousins. DH's grandmother also had 2 sets of twins, but they didn't have any twins. One of the twins almost had gran-twins but her daughter miscarried.

So anyway, everyone wanted us to have twins. I personally always wanted to be a twin, and since I wasn't, then I wanted to have twins since it skipped my Mom. Of course though we went through infertility, alot of testing and procedures....and finally ended up transfering 2 embryos via IVF and just wanted a baby period. Knew there was a chance of twins, but with only 2 embies you never know...so we didn't get our hopes too high.

The DAY I took the pregnancy test at the doctors I couldn't find out the results till the next day b/c I went after work. So on my way from the doc's I called DH and asked him if he wanted anything from the supermarket. He said "eggs" b/c he wanted to make some Jiffy cornbread and needed an egg. So I went in and "Jumbo" eggs were on sale, so I bought 2 dozen.

Later on that evening, DH was making his cornbread, and walked into the living room where I was sitting with the mixing bowl in his hand. He walked over to me, and said "Honey, look, it's TWINS"
I looked into the bowl and the VERY FIRST and only egg he cracked had a DOUBLE YOLK in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I then right away knew not only were we pregnant, but we were having twins, lol!!
The next morning, the doc's office called me and told me we were pregnant, and a week later we went for the u/s.
They only saw one sac when they looked, and I asked her to please look again b/c it must be twins, and she insisted there was only one sac. I begged her to look some more b/c I just KNEW there were 2, and she obliged and lo and behold she couldn't believe she found another sac after a few minutes!! I was so happy and felt so blessed. The Yolks didn't lie!!!!!!!! Best part, is eventually DH finished all the 2 dozen eggs, and that was the only one out of 24 eggs that had a double yolk!!!
DH loves to tell our story and so do I [IMG]

We also found out on an US at our first OB visit (with a midwife). We had told my MIL that we were pregnant about a month before my first visit and she says "I've been praying for identical twin girls for you guys for 5 years". So, I told the midwife that and she kinda said -- yeah, right (no twins on my side - my MIL is an identical twin), but when she threw the US on me, bang, there was two babies with two sacs and two placentas.

So, after the apt, we called - everyone knew about what my MIL had been praying for, so I just called my parents and said get ready for two more grandkids; but when we called my MIL - she was speechless.

Now we know they are two girls, we don't know if they are identical or fraternal, but I think they are identical - we'll have to wait and see!

My story is kind of funny. I had gone to this women's clinic to confirm my pregnancy and shortly after that I saw my ob for the first time. I was kind of bummed because I wasn't scheduled to have an u/s until twenty weeks. My first exam at 12 weeks didn't reveal anything suspicious ( I wasn't measuring bigger or anything). So about 3 days later the women's clinic called me saying that they needed models for their u/s technicians to practice on so would I come in and have one for free. Sure why not. Well the day I went in they were going to call me and cancel because the girl that was supposed to be practicing was sick but there was another lady who had been doing them for ever and she said come in anyway it'll will be fun. So good thing it was her because the way the babies were laying, the other tech may not have picked the other one up. She said that she first noticed that there was a lot of placenta for one baby which made her look for the other one. Well by this time I had kind of gotten used to what I was looking at on the screen and all of a sudden I saw the other head pop up on the screen and I knew, she just looked at me and smiled. I started crying and laughing at the same time. I wish DH had been there but he was taking a test that day and couldn't miss it. So I called him the minute I walked out and he answered his phone in the middle of class because he was worried something was wrong. I heard him start yelling, "I'm having twins, I'm having twins!" People around him were laughing and cheering. What a dork! Gotta love him. The funny part is everyone else knew except me, people had been telling me for the past two weeks that something was going on, I just got so big so fast. I called everyone after that I was sweating I was so excited!!

I also found out on my first visit. I was going through fertility treatment and just finding out I was pregnant was exciting enough. I had to go in for additional blood work to make sure my HCG level was going up when the nurse told me she needed to talk to me. We went into a little meeting room and she said well it look like you are going to have mulitples. I was so excited after all of the needles I went through. Then she says it could be 3 we are not really sure but it is def. 2. I had 2 fully matured eggs and one was on the border line of being mature so they didn't know if it had matured before the IUI. I had to wait 2 weeks for an ultrasound and they discovered 2 sacks, but only 1 yolk. I was kind of disappointed think I was having twins, but still happy I was going to have a baby. Then the doctor told me the other yolk could still develope since they implanted on dif. days. I had to wait another 2 weeks for another ultrasound. And there it was two little flickers on the screen. The precious heartbeats of our twins! I could not get the smile off of my face. My dh said that's my boy and girl. (and that is what we are having) We could not wait to get out of the doctors office so we could call everyone. I have 3 sets of twins on my side of the family and dh has aunts that are twins. I was glad because the people we didn't tell that we were going through fertility treatment we could let them know we have twins on both sides of the family.

    My story....
Well i went to the ER due to spotting, i thought i was having my 3rd m/c. My hubby stayed home with our then 5 year old. They checked me out and said, your cervix is closed and did they hcg count and told me it was extremely high for only being 6 weeks pg. So they sent me to radiology to get a u/s to see what was going on. (Military base)
We waited 5 years to try for our second child, and ended up having 2 mc's in one year, so this was our last attempt because we couldnt handle another loss. So im scared to death because they dont know whats goig on.
So i go into the u/s room and the lady remebers me from my previous 2 m/cs and is all of a sudden quiet... she says " have you had any children before?" and i say " yeas, shes 5" and im thinking, oh god i cant carry anymore babies or something.... She says " thats good that shes 5" and im laying there like plz tell me whats wrong. She then says " you have 2 little babies growing in here" And my response exactly " Are you ****ting me?!" shes is like " yes ma'am and theres 2 heartbeats and they look perfectly health and everything looks good, the spotting was caused from the second implant" SO she prints out a pic so i can show my hubby ( no way hes gonna believe me).
I call my sis and mom on the way home and they are so excited. I get home and hubby is like " whats wrong?" i tell him nothing really and hes like so the baby is fine? I show him the u/s pic and he says" why is there 2 circled here? and i tell him its twins and show him the paper where the tech wrote it down. .Then our 5 yr old walks in and looks at the u/s and says whats that? He says " well thats one baby and this is two babies in mommys tummy" and she replies" Uh i only asked for 1 sister!"
The rest is all good, no complications other then recently ( PTL issues) but we are having a healthy b/g pg and all is looking good!

when i first found out that i was pregnant, i started looking into twin pregnancies (must have know deep down). i took a pregnancy test and it had a very faint positive. three days later i go to a clinic, and the positive line turned very dark as soon as the urine hit it. it was way darker than the control strip. i remember thinking then that something was up. my four year old son kept telling me that there were two babies in my belly. i told him that twins don't run in my family. he kept insisting anyway. my niece sent me an e-mail telling me that she had a feeling that i was having twins. i laughed it off.
at six weeks, i was spotting and cramping. went into the er and they took some blood, checked my cervix, and then sent me to get an ultra-sound. i kept seeing two different sacs, but wasn't sure. i had never had an u/s so early before. then the technician typed "fetus b's heartbeat" and then "fetus a's" i looked at my husband and couldn't stop laughing. it was really an awesome surprise!

i went in for an u/s at 8/9 weeks to date the preg. as my cycles are very long - my husband kept saying there were two in there - with my son i had some spotting and there was a vanished twin at 5-6 weeks

i told my husband not to come with me b/c it would be routine and they are just going to date the pregnancy

well when the tech stuck the wand in it was like a split screen tv - two babies! i said "oh there are two babies, are there two heartbeats?" she said yes you are having twins - i was never so shocked in my life, i actually asked "are you sure i actually woke up and came here today or am i still dreaming?" i think i may have even pinched myself

i rambled some things like "i have a 3 year old at home", "i had my son early", etc, etc

I walked out into the waiting room full of people and held up the pic dazed - and said "i just found out i'm having twins" and couldnt believe it!!!

i couldnt get in touch with my husband for several hours and i was going crazy waiting to tell him - he was soo happy...

i still cant believe it sometimes!!!! thanks for posting this thread!

I found out at our first u/s too, after my m/c. My hormone levels were high, outside the range, and I am over 30 (not 35) but twins don't run in our family. I still think the hormonal changes and the miscarriage had something to do with it. For some reason I wasn't really shocked ... I don't know, like deep down I expected something like this to happen.

So when we got outside I called my mom (they're in Europe). I told her "are you sitting?" ... and she says "it's twins??????" ... yes ... indeed.

Most people I told said ... you're the kind of person who can handle twins. I am planner / organizer / on top of things, for a lot of people it just made sense that it happened to me.

I knew something was different about my pregnancy. I kept joking that I was growing a super baby because I was SO tired and eating SO much. But never, ever did it cross my mind that it could be twins. So at around 9 weeks we went in for our first u/s. My husband was watching the doctor and joked "SO DOc, is is triplets??" and the doctor nervously giggled and said, "Ah no, but I do see two in there!" I thought he was joking. I kept asking him over and over if he was joking. Then I started laughing and saying "OH MY GOD!!!!". It was probably the biggest shock of my life!

My family went wild. They are SO excited. After the initial shock wore off several weeks later, I am now really excited too!

We knew twins were possible since we were doing fertility treatment. When we found out I was pg, everyone kept saying twins....including DH. I did not think it was twins since it took me so long to get one egg to fertilize. I thought, "There is no way that two could of fertilized at once." So at my u/s shy of 7wks, I was super nervous there would be nothing. When my RE said two heartbeats, I looked at DH to make sure he wasn't on the floor or anything. I was absolutely stunned. After the appt. we called everyone, and all were very excited. My grandmother I think is super excited since we have never had twins on my side of the family. DH's nieces are twins so they are all experienced with it, but still excited. My sis was shocked like I was. It took a long time for me to get over the shock of it, but now I couldn't be more excited!!

So for us, it was somewhat expected, but still a shock.

My mom always told me that she prayed for twins. They didn't run in the family, but she wanted them so badly she prayed and prayed for them. She finally got her answer when her 6th pregnancy turned out to be fraternal twin boys. Back then they didn't have ultrasounds, so no one knew she was having twins--except her. She knew she was having two, but the dr. wouldn't believe her! Finally around 28 weeks he figured something was up and x-rayed her belly. My brother's were 8lbs, and 6.5 lbs! Sadly, one of my brothers drowned in an accident when he was a toddler, and I never met him. Fast forward years later. My sister got pregnant with boy/girl twins. We were all stunned because until my mother they didn't run in the family, and we'd always heard stuff about it skipping a generation. Now, it's my turn and with my first pregnancy my mother would always ask--"is there just one?" It really annoyed me that ONE baby wasn't wow enough for her, and I really resented her always making remarks about twins. I told her as much, and she never said anything else about twins. This time around when I got pregnant I knew I was having twins. I just knew, but I didn't say anything even to DH because I thought maybe I was just thinking crazy. I told DH not to come to my 1st appt, because I figured I would just get a pap smear and be on my way, but to my surprise the ob does a routine U/S on the first visit. As soon as she put the wand down she said, "oh, I don't know if you're ready for this..." and I said, "there are two of them aren't there!!??" I looked and sure enough there they were clear as day. I immediately called my DH and said, Congratulations, you're going to be a daddy"...he was like, "ok...I already knew that.." and I said, "no...you're going to be a daddy AGAIN--there are TWO OF THEM". He didn't believe me for awhile. Needless to say, my mother was super thrilled, and I can't believe my mother, sister and I all have twins! That's my story...thanks for reading!

  13. Well my story is a little scary and funny!! I was 18 wks and had not yet had an u/s my doc office maade a mistake and forgot to give me one at 8 wks . so at 18 wks i took the APF test and two days later my doc office told me that the test came back posstive! I started crying and went in to sock! the lady didn't tell me that it was a posibatiy that there was a chance that it was a false/postive. i called my mom and told tried to tell her. she called my doc office and aske the lady that called me if it was posibaly they were wornge she explained the hole thing to her and told he i had to get an u/s at a hospital 1hr a way. after my mom called me back and calmed me down she said don't worrie it could be twins!! I was like yeah right. being a first time momtobe i only was thinking about the worst. So we get to the hospital and we talk to a lady b/f the u/s and she explains what it could be down syndrome ex.... my mom keep sating but it could be twins right!! she said it about 10 times. the lady said it could be but most of the time all four level of the test are up and only 2 were up on us! so we walked in to the u/s room (Me my mom my DHand MIL) I lay down and she puts the jelly on me!! my mom said again its twins i told her to be quite!! See put the u/s thingy on my belly and there was two heads me not knowing what a u/s looked at didn't say anything. No one said anything! then all of a susuden she said did u know it was twins. i started crying and said no! I thought my Dh and MIL were gonna faint. SO she did the u/s and everything was okay! The whole time i was cring i couldn't belevie it!! I wanted one baby so bad i got two!! My husband was so happy to find out it was a b/g we named them both right there!

family- everyone in my family said no s..t they were very happy!!!

    These are very interesting stories!

I had a m/c in Feb. I had a blighted ovum. We were just devestated.

One day in March, out of the blue, I decided to take a pregnancy test. For one, I hadn't gotten AF yet since the D&C..I took it and sure enough, it was positive!

I thought maybe it was from the last pregnancy. So, I went to the OB. He wasn't going to do an u/s until I was 18-20 weeks but since I had no idea what my EDD was and since I never had an AF, he decided to do one.

To our suprise, it was TWINS! We were all shocked and surprised!

Well dh and I had only been married for 6 months. Neither of us "really" wanted anymore children, as we were contect with his 15 year old son and my 3 year old son. And seeing as I was on the pill it never crossed our mind that I would get pregnant. Well I guess someone higher up had different plans for us. I knew something was "different" when I started craving foods that I normally didn't eat. Took a pregnancy test and the first one was negative. Took another one a week later and before the urine could hit the stick good enough it showed a positive. I told dh that night and we were both in shock but knew it would be alright, we were havinga baby!!! Or so we thought.

So we go to my first OB appt and I was around 11 weeks at this time. Well all along my mother had been telling me that I was pretty big to only be 11 weeks along, and seeing as how she has twin sisters and twin uncles she joked that I was due to have them. And she would keep going on and on that I was pregnant with twins.

So anyway back to the ob appt, dh and myself go in to have the probe u/s done and I was joking with my doc "Just tell me there aren't 2 in there" Well the look on dh and the doc's face when they first looked at the screen said it all. All dh could do was shake his head. All I could do was cry. Here I was thinking, how are we going to afford 2 more? Luckily my doc has a sense of humor, and said "hey it could be worse, you could be like me and have 6 month old twins at 50." So for the rest of the appt he talked to dha nd I about how it is to be a father and a husband to twons and their mother.

Now here I am at 27 weeks and cannot wait to meet my little ones. I know it is not going to be easy but I know I was given the greatest gift ever. All of our families are over the moon for us, as are we.

    Next story...........................

We did IVF so we knew twins were a possibility but they gave us a very low chance of both embryos sticking!
I went in for my 1st u/s at 5 weeks - there they were!! my little princesses!! I was kinda in shock because I really didn't expect the IVF to work (with my luck!!) and not only did it work but TWICE!!
my husband was so happy -

we have 3 boys and really expected these babies to be boys also (which would have been great too) and they were both girls!!
We felt like we had won the lottery!! at the hospital when dh was changing the first diapers - I told him to turn the babies towards me so that I could see their girly parts because I still could not believe that we actually did have girls!!!! Plus my boys are older
13, 10, and 8 so these girls will always have each other to play with
and go to school with etc.....

I have never been happier - I have my boys and my girls!!

I love reading all of these stories!

We had my son after being married for 9 years(7 of those years we were trying to have a baby, could never afford fertility treatment but trusted God would give us a baby in his perfect timing and he did). When my son was 21 months we decided it was probably time to start trying again as we wanted him to have a brother or sister close to his age. Well low and behold that very month I got pregnant...my hubby and I were both in shock that it happened so quickly...fast forward a week or two...we went to the OB for our first visit at approx 6 weeks and he said everything looked good but he couldn't really see as much as he would like so he would do another ultrasound and the next appointment. Since my hubby went to the first visit I figured there was really no reason he had to come to the second one as he had a very hectic work day scheduled. So I go in for my second ultrasound and the dr is looking around and turns to his nurse and says "remember she was here at 6 weeks and we wanted to do another ultrasound because we didn't get to see everything we like to see" then he turned towards me and said "well we got more than we bargined for...here is the heartbeat and here is another heartbeat."

I was in total shock, I sat there and stared at the screen then stared at the paper as he was checking off high risk pregnancy and writing twins. It took a bit for it to sink in for me...I called my husband right away and asked him if he was ready for the shock of a lifetime, then I told him twins...he was so excited he became speachless (a rarity for my hubby).

THen I called mom and mil who both started shouting omg, twins, yeah!!!!!!!! It has been so exciting watching the reactions of everyone we tell...I can't wait to see these 2 bundles of joy!

These stories are just making my day. [IMG] It is so fun to read all your experiences!

We found out at 8 weeks. Our clinic doesn't do ultrasounds that early but we had a loss in September and also I had not been paying attention to my cycles at all - this was a total surprise pregnancy for us.

So, since I had no idea of my last period (it was only our 2nd cycle after my period came back after our miscarriage) and because of our miscarriage in September, my doctor decided to do an ultrasound. I had also had a little spotting.

Anyway, before we went in, I was feeling really good about this pregnancy. I had insanely horribly morning sickness, much worse than with my daughter. With our previous loss I had none. I was also just exhausted. DH and I had joked about having twins because my symptoms were so exaggerated.

Anyway, he was there with me for the ultrasound and so was our 2-year old daughter, Ella.

The ultrasound tech got started and found the cause for my spotting (small hemorrhage) and then said "You guys want to see something cool? Here is one baby...and here is another baby!" DH and I just yelled. It was awesome. We were SO SO excited. We showed every nurse and doctor in the clinic our pictures, I think. [IMG]

Our moms were just ecstatic. [IMG] My mom immediately named them the Tic Tacs. (Our daughter was Skittle when I was pregnant with her).

Okay, well let me start off by saying that at thetime that we got pregnant, we werent trying at all. Infact, the only reason that i was off of birth control is b/c i was inbetween jobs and my insurance had a gap and i couldnt afford to buy it. So...when we found out we were pg, that was a whole nother bag of worms. But..we found out on Nov. 14th that we were pg. On Thanksgiving, my family mentioned that i should be pretty far along b/c i was already showing. at this time we didnt know how far along i was. AFter a dr. apointment and the doctor said that by the date of my last cycle, i should only be about a month and a half pg, my family mentioned that something was going on. At Christmas, my cousins husband made the comment that i must be having twins b/c i was showing like i was 5 months but i was only supposedly 2 - if that. At a dr. apointment before Christmas, my doctor said that i was smaller than how far along she predicted me and i thought it was the opposite, that i was larger. So itold her to check for the second heartbeat b/c my cousin just had twins and it runs in my family. She insisted that there was only one...she didnt listen for two. Then she said she was going to schedule an ultrasound for 2 days after Christmas b/c she was unsure of a due date. When we went in for the u/s, i laid down, she got the stuff ready and then lo and behold, my husband goes "what is that" and she goes "oh, one....two...." and i'm thinking..."awwww.look she's counting the hands..." NOPE i said "...two what" She said "babies! your having twins..." I think that iw ould have rather had a picture of the look on my husbands face than the u/s pic b/c i swear his jaw hit the ground. Anyways, my dad was at my grandmas that day and mom was waiting for us to come home (we lived with them at the time). we went to show my dad and to have him go with us. I showed him and he goes "two? oh boy..." and then asked if we showed mom. we said no and then first went to show grandma who inturn b/c of my cousin just having two said "ugh, you have two in there too?" LOL so this is when it gets good. Keep in mind, my cousin just had twins a few weeks before i found out. We walk intot he house and show my mom the u/s pics. she said "this isnt yours, this is Kristins...you took her pictures..." we insisted "No, they're ours.." and out of nowhere dad says "Janie, they're theirs...look at the name in the corner..." and my mom just said "Oh my gosh...." and started to cry. so since then it's been great and we finally got to meet our two little surprises in June of 06 and they have beent he greatest little blessings we could have asked for. What a great thread.

    My story is kinda funny.

All my pg were fertility (that isn't the funny part [IMG] Anyway, with this last transfer, we put in 4 blasts (embryos) based on my history and all the trmts I have had, my age etc they weren't that concerned.

I was planning on testing at about 12 dpo like a good girl. At about 8-9 dpo I woke up not feeling so hot. I was so excited, I told DH I am going to puke maybe we are pg!!!! So I threw-up and we were happy. But we had to make sure I wasn't sick cause my MIL is going through chemo for breast cancer and we were suppose to see her that night. So I took a test and it was very + very quickly. We were very excited. I then got sicker and sicker and sicker and started freaking out - how many babies did I have cooking!!! So about 6 hrs later and 30+ pukes later I called DH and said you have to take me to hospital. When I got to the hospital I was very very dehydrated. I was there for 9 hrs and had 6 bags of IV fluid.

The crazy thing is that it was most likely food poisoning and totally unrelated to being pg. After that horrible day I never was sick again. I had NO morning sickness at all.

When I went for my beta's they were a little on the high side, but not crazy. So we were back to thinking one baby - so when we had our first u/s we saw to sacs and here we are today.

    What a crazy roller coaster!

    I LOVE all these stories!!!

i have several sets of twins on my mom's side of the family. i've also had a recurring dream since I was about 16 in which I am pregnant with quads and as big as a house. Neither of these things occurred to me, though, when my DH and I went in for our first "we're pg!" doctor's appt.

We went in when I believed I was 6 weeks along. The doc, however, kept saying I was 9 weeks along. HUH? I vehemently disagreed. She finally agreed to do an u/s that day to settle it. During the u/s, the tech confirmed I was 6 weeks then decided to get some other shots of my insides for my record. She was quiet for awhile . . . then asked my DH and I, "Did you guys do fertility treatments?" i said "no - why? is there something wrong?" And she said, "No, you just have two in there." My normally loud/talkative DH was stunned silent (I think for the first time in his life) and I just started giggling uncontrollably. That was 20 weeks ago and we're still getting used to the idea!

Our friends and family were all thrilled for us but two reactions are worth noting. We told my FIL about the twins at dinner just a few days after we found out. He very seriously looked at my DH and said, "No. You don't have twins in your family." He then turned his attention completely to the football game playing in the bar! The more we tried to talk to him, the more adament he was that it was not possible for us to be having twins. It literally took him HOURS to absorb what we'd just told him. My boss was pretty funny too - I told him I was pg (didn't mention twins) and then asked if he wanted to see a picture. He said sure so I showed him a 3d pic taken at my 10 wk u/s - the pic very clearly shows both babies hanging out . . . Anyway, my boss looked at it and very matter-of-factly said, "MJ, it looks to me like you might have two babies in there." LOL - REALLY????

OH, now I just can't wait to meet them!!!!!

When my DH and I decided to start trying for a baby, several friends told me they had a feeling I'd get pregnant with twins. I also had a strange feeling about it even though twins don't run on my side of the family. When I took the pregnancy test, before I could even get the cap back on the stick, it said Positive. I was freaking out b/c I remembered my sister telling me about a friend of hers who was preggo with twins and how quickly the results showed.

When we went for the u/s at 7 weeks, my DH asked the doctor how many were in there, and she looked all around and said she only saw one. We saw the heart beating and everything. So, we went on our merry way thinking it was only one baby.

At my 20 week ultrasound, the tech puts the wand on my belly and says "You know there are two in there." I thought my DH was going to fall off the chair. It took a while for the shock to wear off (some days I think I'm still in shock), but we look at our boys now and talk about how we couldn't imagine it any other way.

I love reading all your stories!! Before i start i have to say there is twins on my mums side of the family but when i got pregnant i dont think i ever thought oh i could be having twins.

So here is my story. We hadnt really been trying for a baby although we had talked about it. I came off the pill and i think within about 2 weeks i was pregnant!! ( although i didnt know it)When i didnt get a period for a couple of weeks after stopping the pill i would do a test. Well i did i pregnancy test and it said negative so i thought it must just be my cycle getting back to normal after coming off the pill. After a couple of weeks and still no period i decided to go to the doctor and get a test done. Well that came back inconclusive! I was starting to get annoyed then lol. At this point i think i already knew i was pregnant (my buttons were popping off my trousers) but was just waiting for it to be confirmed. Well i was speaking to one of my friends at work and she said the only other person she knew that had an inconclusive pregnancy test turned out to be having twins. I was like oh shut up it wont be twins. Well the next test came back positive finally and i got a date for my first u/s. Well lying on the table and the tech is going oh look theres your baby and there its hearbeat! I was so excited! Then she started to say is there twins in your family (there is twins on my mums side of the family but i didnt once think that i could have twins). I went you have got to be joking and she said no there is 2 there. Well my partner went 100 shades of white and stopped talking. All i could see was his little brain thinking oh crap how are we going to afford this. I started crying i think it was because of shock, excitement, happieness and every other emotion under the sun lol. I was so happy! I sent a text to my mum after leaving the hospital and said i am having twins OH S**T!!She still has that text on her phone now lol. I had already told everyone at my work i was pregnant as i was so excited so when i went in with my scan pictures the next day everyone could not believe i was having twins!! My friend was right! I now look at my kids and think i wouldnt change this for the world. I LOVE having twins x

Everyone was so excited!! My husband and I tried for almost three years, we each had a surgery, three cycles of clomid, three of shots all with IUI, I quit my stressful job and a few months later we did IVF. Since I'm under 30 (29) the dr. put in two embryos. They both took. We saw them right at the six week mark and heard strong heartbeats. I prayed before we ever did IVF, please if we have to do IVF, please give me two. He did. God is good even though I don't always understand his timing. Everyone says they were excited for us when we announced the pregnancy...but it became a truly great story when, after a long struggle, we're having two!!

Just before leaving for my first u/s at 11 weeks, my mom teased me that I was having twins. I said to her, "Mom I never wanted twins, God wouldn't do that to me." When I got the u/s the tech asked me, "So do twins run in your family." So I launched into my, "Yes they do, my great-uncles were frat twins, I'm an identical twin...but identical twins aren't heridetary...blah blah blah blah..." pause, pause, pause, "why did you ask me about twins?...you're making me really nervous." (I thought at first he had just looked really closely at my chart...he let me go on and on and said nothing to me.) Anyway he finally answered, "Well, here is baby A and here is baby B" Dh starts laughing... I just get really quiet... trying to hold in the tears. The tech says, "Wow, you are taking this really calmly." I muster up the strength to say, "well, I think it just hasn't hit me yet." I was just too proud to start crying, which is really what I felt like doing... and here dh was laughing his head off, just thrilled. Anyway we told my mom when we came home and she wouldn't believe us for a full 30 minutes... not until we called my MIL did she believe us. She thought we were getting even for all her teasing. But she knew we wouldn't drag my MIL into it. My grandfather, the one with the frat twin brothers, was the least surprised. He just said something about knowing someone soon would carry on the tradition... His aunt had frat twins too. "Paul and Pauline" were his cousins!

Very fun topic – thanks for starting it! I have had so much fun reading everyone’s stories. Here’s mine:

This pregnancy was a bit of a shock to begin with. My son was 14 months at the time we found out and we had planned to wait another year or so before we began trying. We were excited though! Normally you don’t get an u/s in my doctor’s office until 18 weeks, but they have a new test out that is an early screening for Downs’ Syndrome and since my brother has Downs’ my doctor thought I would be a good candidate to go for it. For the three weeks prior to the ultrasound, my husband kept telling me "I think it's twins". I thought it was odd that he would say that to me. He is a fraternal twin and it runs in every generation in their family, but from everything we had read and heard from other people, we didn’t have any better chance of having twins because it has to run on the mother’s side. He knew that as well as I did and didn’t say that when we were pregnant with my son. So I kept telling him no because I thought I would be a lot bigger at 12 wks if I were having twins, plus a woman on my floor at work is expecting identical twin girls and I figured what are the odds of two people having them on the same floor? But he said he didn’t care he still thought it was twins. In fact the morning of the ultrasound he said, if we find out we’re having twins, I am not going back to work. I just kept thinking – will he get off this twin thing? Why is he so obsessed with twins this time around? He is going to be disappointed when he finds out it is only one.

So we go in for the u/s at this new place I had never been to before. The tech starts and after a minute asked us "Was this a spontaneous pregnancy?" I thought it was a weird question but I just assumed she sees a lot of fertility treatment patients and looks for something different if you are. So we said yes. Then she asked us "Is this your first ultrasound". She asked it kind of weird, as if she was surprised that this was our first. I said yes - my first with this baby, but I had ones when I was pregnant with my son. So she was quiet for a bit. I saw two things on the screen, but just assumed one was baby and one was placenta. It never even occurred to me. I guess it did to Keith though, because he said he was watching the tech and it looked like she didn't know how to tell us something. Finally he asked her "Are there two in there?" She said "Yup".

We were so excited and shocked (probably me more so than my husband)!! We had such fun telling people for the rest of the day. My MIL was thrilled because she personally knows the joys of twins, plus we are carrying on the tradition of twins in every generation. My family was probably even more excited because there have never been twins in our family, so this is a first for them. I can’t wait until our next chance to see them on April 25th and hopefully find out what they are!! Although my husband tells me they are girls and after his last prediction, maybe I should believe him [IMG] !!
