I think my pedi told me some wrong stuff!

I came on here to find some info about nap times, and got into reading the feeding schedules. It looks like most of you, when your twins were about 6 months, only did solids once or twice a day, and that was after bottles. My pedi told me (when they were 4 months old!) to give them breakfast, lunch, and dinner with solids. So for 2 months we've been giving them a little cereal and then a bottle 3 times a day and then just a bottle before bed. They eat 4 times a day. We were going to wait until their 6 mos appt to start giving them fruits and veggies. But I feel like what we've been doing so far is just totally wrong because it's so different from what everyone else is doing. Like I read that they should be having their bottles first and then solids because their bottles are more nutritious than the cereal. Ahhhhh! What have I done to my kids?! I think I need to totally change their feedings!

I have been feeding them first before bottles. I just don't give them a ton and the still finish their bottle. It does seem like alot for a 4month to be eating but if it didn't cause them any trouble then I'm sure everything ok.

I think you have to do what you feel comfortable with. 3 meals a day at 4 months seems like a lot to me. We were only doing 2 meals a day until 9 months and then we added in lunch. We were also doing 5 bottles a day until about 10 months. I also did solids after a bottle so that they wouldnt be starving yet they could be satisfied. But that is what worked for us.

We did two meals at 4 months and then introduced a third meal at 6/7 months.

The rule of thumb is... Babies are different. If they still drink their formula fine even though they get their bottle after solids, it's fine. Some babies don't, that's why in those cases it's best to give the bottle first. The other rule of thumb... Pediatricians never agree with each other. That's why I think it's important to do your research even when your pediatrician tells you to do something... In the end, you have to do what you're comfortable with.

We started solids at 4 months with one meal a day, at 5 months 2 meals a day, and JUST started a 3rd at 6.5 months.

You should do what makes you feel best. If your babes are fine, than that's it...they're fine. Every single doctor tells us something different.

I personally lean on my sister a lot (she has 3 kids) for advice. I figure hers turned out pretty darn well so why not ask her? :D So I pretty much use a combo of her, the doc, and what I read about on here.

    That probably didn't help LOL

We always gave the bottles before the solids just because if we did it the other way around they would not take the bottle afterwards. However, babies are different. I think as long as they are getting what they need in formula that should be fine. My girls take about 20-25 oz. in formula and their pedi said that is more than fine. They do get a little more in the cereal also.

At 4 months we were told to start rice cereal (a.m. and p.m.) - just a little at a time. Then a week later we tried oatmeal cereal. Then the week after start a veggie. So, really my girls have been on solids 3 times a day since about 4 1/2 months. They were small quantities and they took the solids just fine. It just depends on the baby. They are different. Your doing great! If your babies are taking them fine and getting enough formula then that's what matters.
