I think I'm in love!

Nolan Robert and Bennett Thomas arrived a tad early (35wks 4days) on Wednesday!! Nolan greeted his admirers at 5:12pm, weighing in at 5lb 8oz and 19.5". Bennett quickly followed at 5:27pm, 5lb 7oz and 19.8".

Ironically, a miserable couple of days had me convinced Wednesday a.m. that the only thing I was going to accomplish that day was to post a whining rant here about how I'd hit the wall. About 9am I had some mild spotting and called my Dr. She told me to come in to L&D, but I was convinced it was a false alarm since I had no pain to speak of and the spotting stopped. Wasn't thrilled about the prospect of a 2hr round trip for nothing.

My BP was on the increase in the past week, but I didn't have much swelling and no protein. Still, the BP became a topic of concern in triage. Oh, so did the fact that I was dialated to 3 and supposedly having contractions. So off to get my own room I went. I got in around noon and steadily started to progress. Because of the BP issues, my Dr. didn't want to waste time, so within an hour or so I got my IV and my epidural, they broke my water and it was game on. Both babies were vertex :yahoo: so vaginal was the plan. At 5cm and 80% effaced (pre-epi), I was still talking comfortably w/ DH and DM. The anethesiologist asked me why I was going to have an epidural. I'm proud to say that I resisted the urge to pull his testicles up to his ears and tell him to mind his own business :umm: ANYWAY...about 4:30 things started to get seriously uncomfortable (and Mr. Know Everything argued w/ Dr. about topping off my epidural) and they wheeled me into the OR for some pushing. I tell ya, having multiples makes you feel dang important. I had a fleet of medical staff scurrying around the room. It was kind of cool.

With my first push, I had the bowling-ball-between-the-legs sensation so I pushed like a mad woman. Not even 10 pushes later we had a screaming little boy! And 6 more pushes and we had two!! The quickness even freaked ME out!!! DS #1 was a challenging, o/p baby that required a LOT of work to get him and his large head out. Not these boys!! Even Bennett (baby B), who decided to swim upstream to the top of my uterus and required one little assist from the vacuum was a breeze. Delivering twins is BIZARRE!! The contractions subsided after Baby A was out and I just kinda layed there thinking, "Ok, NOW what do I do?" Well, sure enough after a couple of minutes they resumed and we were rolling again. At least that gave me a minute to check out Nolan and then mentally and physically prep to do it one more time.

They both scored 8.9 apgars and required no respiratory aid. I've had multiple people comment that it was a textbook vaginal twin birth. Go figure. We were in my recovery room at 5:45 and I took my first walk to the bathroom at about 7:30.

They spent their 1st nite with us but were sent to the NICU the next day. No big worries...slightly low blood sugar (I had GD) was their biggest issue which is magnified by their preemie status since they are still perfecting their eating skills. But they are progressing like superstars and will be released to the Step-Down Level nursery tomorrow and we hope to go home within a few days max. Since we live an hour away and I am breastfeeding, my hospital has made accomodations for me to stay w/ the babies until they are discharged. Very cool, but I am SO anxious to get home to my family (and my BED!).

Anyway, I just wanted to post a You-Can-Do-It-Too story. I read a lot more than I post on TS, but I can't express my appreciation for everyone here. You've talked me down off the proverbial ledge more times than I care to think about and inspired me so many times! My heartfelt thanks to all of you!!! :grouphug: Now off to that 1st Year! :woohoo:

I'll add some pics as soon as I figure out how!

    Quick question:

Your boys were born a little on the early side...did you have any complications or signs that they might debut a bit earlier?

Congratulations! How wonderful. I also delivered my twins vaginally with no complications - it was a breeze, relatively speaking. I'm almost ashamed to admit that sometimes since I know so many women on this site struggle with C sections and other difficulties as a result of having multiples. Anyway, I'm glad you were so lucky and I bet it has a lot to do with your open mindedness and personal strength (and just good luck, of course!). Welcome babies!

    P.S. Are they identical?
