I think I messed up

OK, as I have posted, Bea is newly potty trained. She has been doing pretty good, no accidents yesterday. Today at naptime, and yeah, they don't nap anymore, but I still do "quiet time in their room", she kept saying she had to go potty every 5 minutes and didn't do anything. After the fourth time, I said no more, I'm not going to come get you next time. Well of course, she said she had to go potty and I ignored it. Then I heard crying and "I peed on the floor!". Yep, she peed, and pooped. Bad mommy for ignoring my child, but I really thought she was just trying to come out of the room. Ugh.

Aw, Kelly -- what a bummer. FWIW, I think I would have done the exact same thing. After 3 times crying wolf (at least apparently), I would never have believed that she really did have to go. Sometimes you do the best you can and you just guess wrong. :hug99: (Not to be too cynical, but do you think there's any chance she was playing you -- knowing she did have to go, but holding it so you'd keep coming back? I don't know if a newly trained not-quite-3-year-old is capable of that much planning and bladder/bowel control.)

Argh- that is so frustrating! Don't worry about it, though, you could look at it as a valuable lesson for her, too, to help her know the difference between when she thinks she has to go potty and when she really does have to go potty, you know? And I agree with the PP that there might be a little test from her in there for you, too. But no matter what the accidents are still important for her to remember what real urgency feels like.

    Hang in there!

you did nothing wrong - how would you know THIS time she meant it? i have had the same issue with alisha - i threaten her - i'll take her to potty but if she doesn't really go, she loses and animal from her crib.

i put her in diapers still for naps and bedtime - she tells me she has to poop at naptime, so i let her sit there for 5 mins while she does nothing but play, then make her go back to her nap/crib and of course she poops the minute i leave the room. ARGH. but at least there is no mess since it's in a diaper. i do think i may have to forego the naptime diaper in order to get her to poo on the potty.

    hope it goes better tomorrow!

That's what I did today. Much to my astonishment, she did a giant poop in the little potty and didn't say anything. When I went to get them, I smelled poop, so I check the potty, smell butts, and can't find it. I didn't realize that she had taken the little bucket thing out of the potty. When I said "Where's the poop?" (at this point I thought maybe she went on the floor somewhere), she proudly brings the bucket out of a cabinet and presents it to me.

OMG, how cute (in a gross kinda way) of her to do that? I mean she totally gets it! WTG Kelly! I think she is going to be fine if she knew to do that. :)

Good for her (in a weird kind of way...lol!!). I don't think you messed up. I've done the same thing to my kids. It so so annoying and frustrating when they do things like that that you don't know what to believe.

Been there, done that! It happens to the best of us. We can only take so much of taking them potty every minute of the day. You didn't mess up, you have company with this one!
