Ok I don't know if this needs to be posted to the 1-5 year old board as well since my little ones will be a year old in just a couple of weeks. I will let the mods decide that.

Here is my problem, my guilt, whatever you want to call it. Neither one of my babies will hold their own bottle. Well, Emma will hold it, but she doesn't tip it up to get anything. Thomas just screams if you don't feed him. Neither one will drink from a sippy cup. I've tried them all and I do mean them all! Everything but a straw. My kids still eat baby food too. Yes, they eat some table foods, but we haven't tried a whole lot of things. I find myself going and buying the baby food because I know they will eat it, it fills them up and they like it.

Why won't they hold a bottle and why can't I get them to do that?? Why won't they drink from a sippy cup? What table foods should I be giving them?? Do I need to be afraid of things?? Am I just the worst mom ever, because I feel that way. I know 7 and 8 month olds that hold their bottles. What is wrong with me, what is wrong with my twins? What am I doing wrong?? Someone help me! I know that when we go back for their 12 month visit they are going to tell me to start weening from the bottle. How the heck am I going to do that at this stage? I feel like a failure! Thanks for reading!

You are NOT the worst mom so stop doing this to yourself [IMG] I know you've heard this a million times and it's so true..every baby has their own "schedule" at which they will do things. My girls wouldn't do the sippy cups either, but I just kept giving it to them several times every day and one day one of them started drinking. Several weeks later same thing happened with the other one. Don't worry! They will get it and if not before the 12 month appt then ask the pedi. I'm sure he/she will have some great ideas on things you can do. They are fine!

You are not the worst mom! Nicole and Danielle never held their own bottles. We switched them over to sippys during the day around 11 1/2 months. They wouldn't use any regular sippys. We had to use straw sippys. I got them used to drinking from straws by using juice boxes. I would put the straw in their mouth and squeeze the juice box a little bit and they would start sucking. Then I would switch them to straw sippys. They would only drink from the straw and had to be sitting up for it. It was kinda annoying to keep holding their sippys so it was wonderful when they took to the straws. I would still have to hold their morning and night bottle until they were off them completely at 13 months. By 18 months though they switched to regular sippys.

As for food, I didn't start table food until about 10 months. They had problems with solids. But I just started really giving them more solids. I would give them regular food first and then give them baby food if they stopped eating regular food and seemed to be hungry still. By 13 months they were totally off of baby food. So it doesn't take long to switch them over. I just started giving them regular food cut very small. By 12 1/2 months I gave them steak cut up in tiny pieces and they loved it.

Don't give up! It will all work out soon! You are not a failure. They aren't even a year old! They are still young and you have time to get it to work.

First of all, if they will drink from straws--GREAT! Just get straw cups and skip the sippies--we were told to take away sippies and go to straws by a speech therapist anyway. The straws are better for speech development anyway.

There are many babies that don't hold their own bottles--ever!

As for baby food, just start mixing in toddler food--you will find that they will transition before you know it!

Guess what?? Mine NEVER held their own bottles until we were about to give them up at 13 months. Ainsley still never did, it was just Bea. I thought how in the world are they ever going to drink out of sippies, but they did. We also did the straw sippies first. Then they started getting to yucky with the milk (straw part hard to clean), so I went to hard spout sippies. At first I would tip the cup for them, but then they wanted to do it themselves and caught on.

Don't worry about the food. They will eventually not want to be spoon fed and then you have to give them table food, or else, LOL!

You are NOT the worst mom!! Heather, you are doing just fine!!

I used Avent bottles and then got the sippy attachments and they have HANDLES!! I recommend the handle approach.

You know what is SO funny. When they used to use the sippy's you would think that they were going to fall over backwards. I had a hard time getting them to NOT tip the straw sippy's!

Try the straws and just keep showing them. They'll figure it out!!!

The only reason mine don't STILL eat baby food is because they wouldn't!! They rejected it so I had to go to plan b! At least they ate veggies then....

Start trying some more soft foods. I like the frozen whole grain blueberry waffles (didn't put anything on them at first, then after a year or more they got yogurt on top of them - now 22 mos. they get a tiny bit of butter).....

Pancakes (again, I like frozen and Krusteaz MINI are the BEST!)

Eggs - these are easy starter foods. Make a little effort before your appt. that way you can report to the pedi what happens!! [IMG]

YOu are NOT the worst mom!

My ds never liked regular sippy cups, so we went to the ones with the straws. His speech therapist and occupational therapist were thrilled that we were just doing the straw ones, apparently its better to use those anyways.

As for the baby foods, my girls are 8 months and we still have only tried rice cereal, rarely too, since they dont like it...i still have yet to get the guts to try baby foods.

My ds still eats some baby foods as well, his is more of an oral sensory issue but still my son is 3 [IMG]

Feed your babies what they will eat and dont let it get to you. In time they will learn to eat regular foods. One thing you can always do is get one of those grinders and put regular food in it, so they can get used to the flavors
