DS learned "toot" in reference to farts from me...just tonight while in the bath I heard him let a real good one rip under the water and he giggled and said "there's a toot..." :acute:

I will probably pay for this at some point in the near future....

I've actually been trying to teach Bea "fart" because she's been saying "poop" when she farts and trying to explain the difference. Now I know, wait till the bath, then she'll really know what a fart is. I said fart off the top of my head, couldn't think of anything else at the moment. :D At least "toot" is a nicer word!

Toot is fine, fart is a little crude. My girls call them "helicopters" (a Jade-ism), my niece calls them "frogs."

I think "toot" is fine. My husband taught ours "gas," so whenever they fart or burp, they put one hand up to the chest and say, "Scoo me! Gas!" in the cutest little voice. It cracks me up!

Sarah named it a "bottom burp" at some point and it just stuck. She'll look at you so serious and tell you "my bottom burped."

    I like bottom burp...hehehe! Cute!

I need to come up with a word or teach "toot." When my girls "pass gas" they point to their diapers and say "Poo poo" or "stink." It's funny, but they didn't poop!

Mine know "toot" also, and my oldest son taught them to say "poop poo head," when I was gone! Just what I need.

Mine say "poot" because that's what DH calls it. Anytime they do it now, they giggle and say "I pooted!" DH is so proud.

We originally started with the term "fart," but soon realized that it sounded a bit crude. So we switched to "toot."

The know a song where there is a burp, and then a "pardon me." So when they belch or pass gas, they quickly put their hands to their mouth and say in a silly voice, "Pardon Meeeeee."

My DH taught my oldest that it was "stepping on a duck" so he either says that or "duck" for short. It is a quote from the movie Caddyshack.

Kaden farts and says that's not good. It is so funny, he learned that from DH.

    cute stories!

becky and kelly - we are having the same issue where alisha thinks anytime she farts she's gone poo and then gets upset and wants her diaper changed and i have to try to explain she didn't really poop and is still clean. oy.

Hey, there could be worse words! :icon_biggrin:

One my nieces hit on the "bottom burps" thing all on her own (according to her mom, at least).

We will probably use "toot" in our house too, as that is what DH and I already call it.

I have been trying very hard to get them to say toot.
DH had them saying Fart. Ususally something like this
Parent:Wow! Who tooted!? (with eyes watering.)
Kid: Oh, I farted! (insert hysterical giggling at this point and mouth covered behinf hand.)
Parent: Well, what do you say?
Kid: Excuse me. I farted! (more giggling.)

My mom calls them bunny bubbles. Not sure why, but she does. She is trying to teach my kids this too. But they are resistant to that as well.

We use fart. I have tried to teach Nathan how to spell it, but he hasn't caught on yet.

Now that they're four, they think toots are the most hilarious thing going, but they also know it's something that's not polite. I actually prefer "toot" to the alternatives. Now they say "I tooted, scuse me", but they get a cute little embarrased smile on their faces.
