Hey all! Boy am i glad that something like this exists I am 22 weeks pregnant and just went for my first ultrasound today.
I had to wait that long to get an appointment. Anyway the wait was driving me insane, this is my first pregnancy and I was just dying to know what the sex of the baby was. So they have me laying on the table and the u/s tech is giving her partner all these funny looks so I start freking out inside thinking something is wrong only for them to tell me relax there is two in there RELAX?! Are you kidding me? I am shocked but elated and excited at the same time I am having boy and girl twins(i'm loving that!)and everything at the ultrasound seemed fine. My only concern Is what should I have been doing differently up until this point? Did i miss some significant tests that I should have had by now? Why i someone just know realizing that i am having twins now Shouldn't they have realized it sooner? What Happens now? I have had all my tests and everything has been good and normal up until this point but I am just really worried now. Someone please help me i do not want to have to worry myself for the rest of this pregnancy ....I am already halfway there

Congrats! My doctor started to see me weekly from 26 weeks onwards, so you can expect a more frequent visitation schedule soon (every other week between 14 and 26 weeks). I started NST's around 36 weeks. I was not considered high risk and did not have any issues. They'll also start doing 4-weekly u/s to measure growth from 20 week onwards. You'll most likely deliver at 38 weeks at the latest (that's what most docs prefer). Depending on the position it can be vaginal or c/s. I had a vaginal delivery with baby A being head down and baby B being breech (they performed a breech extraction on him).

Congrats again and good luck with all the preparations!

First of all... Congrats and welcome! I am having B/G twins too. I found out at the gender U/S also (17.5 weeks). I totally FREAKED. This is a great site. As for tests? i dont think they do anything differant other than do more U/S's to measure the growth. Good Luck!!

I found out early and I'm high risk (diabetic) but if you've made it this far and are healthy then I'm sure the rest will fall into place...congratulations!!! I have b/g twins also and its the best!

Congrats! It is definately a roller coaster ride finding out that there is more then one little bundle of joy in there. There really isn't much different in the early days of a twin pregnancy compared to a singleton, just closer monitoring. But your babies were healthy so no worries. Make sure you are getting enough protein and water to keep those little ones growing and you hydrated.

congrats on the twins! I have a friend who did not know until she was 20-22 weeks too and her boys are fine. I bet your doc will just see you more now. But if the babies are growing and looking good then you have nothing to worry about not knowing until now. Did that make sense? I hope so!

Congrats again and welcome!

Congrats! :yahoo: I didnt find out until about the same time you did that I was having twins. This is my first children but from what I hear from everyone is that the only thing that is different is that you have more frequent doctor visits. Also, my doctor sent me for a level 2 u/s!

Monique! Congratulations on your twin pregnancy! Welcome to TS!

I found out at my 21 week u/s, so I can relate to the shock! Having twins, just means more appointments and really paying attention to your body. Drink water, and more water, and then drink some more water! VERY important in sustaining twins! Make sure you are eating plenty. I also drank the Boost/Ensure High Protein drinks for the extra protein, which is also important. And REST!!

I encourage you to join our TS Big Sister program, where we will match you with a mom of twins. It's another great way to get added support throughout your twin journey! Click on the link at the bottom of my signature for more info!

Although I was 12 weeks when we sauspected twins I felt the same thing when they told me twins! I was in the OB's office for my 12 week appt, and I was nervous about hearing the heartbeats because I miscarried in January so she did a "quckie" ultrasound in the office just to make me feel better.... When she was looking around she was like.... Ummm, do you see what I see, and I said I see a baby there and something else over there... She said yep, that something is another baby. Of course I have no knowledge of wheather this runs in my family because I was adopted, but she was like oh cool your going to have twins! I was so shocked that I said nothing, asked nothing and just left feeling like I had no clue how I was going to tell my husband!!! He's a little dramatic!

Anyway, as far as what you might have missed.... From what I can see all you have missed is a whle lot of worry wondering what is happening and how the babies are... I am confident you will catch up in no time!

COngratulations, enjoy and feel lucky that you are more than half way there!

I know exactly how you feel!!!! My story is a little different. I went in at 7 weeks and had my ultrasound. I told DH that there were going to be at least two babies in there because I've been pregnant before (twice) and this was SOOOO different. The dr was only able to find one baby even after he looked a good long time because he's a good friend of mine and believed me. Anyways I went back in at 16 weeks for my anatomy scan (I didn't want to find out the gender and since I know how to read ultrasounds I asked that it get done early on so I would be less likely to tell.) Well we were ALMOST DONE when all of a sudden another head popped up on the screen! I was horrified because at my angle, I couldn't see the body of the other baby. I was crying hysterically. DH started ccrying because my tech was freaking out. Finally we found out there was another seperate baby and for some reason we still couldn't stop crying. I was scared to death. I asked before I left the office that day, what was I supposed to do differently. They told me that the babies had a great growth and looked awesome. The only thing that I needed to do was drink plenty of water. Eat good and get plenty of rest. Things might change over the next few months so be prepared for change. I can honestly tell you that I can tell a HUGE difference when I don't drink enough water. That is my biggest piece of advice to you. Congrats on your babies!!!!

Congratulations and welcome to Twinstuff!

I found out at 19 weeks. The additonal monitoring/testing isn't usually until the later stage of pregnancy so I wouldn't worry about not finding out until now. Take the time to soak in the news, don't stress about things that are out of your control (like not finding out until now).

We would love to have you check out our Twinstuff Roll Call thread and follow the links to add your due date and upcoming appointments and milestones!

I look forward to getting to know you!

I'm 23 weeks pregnant with boy/boy twins, so we're due around the same time!
I actually found out around 10 weeks, and that was shock enough. I can't imagine just now finding out! It's very overwhelming at first, but give it a little bit of time and it'll sink in. :)

I'm sure you've been taking good care of yourself up to this point. The only thing I would really urge you to do is up your water intake quite a bit because it's very easy to become dehydrated...especially in the summer months! Something that's been a life-saver for me (because I *hate* plain water) is the Vitamin Water. So yummy! Other than that, take it easy. I'm more tired this time than with either of my singleton pregnancies!

Good luck!

Congratulations! I found out at 13 wks because I was seeing a high-risk doctor due to issues with my first. The silver lining is that you have fewer weeks to worry about the various complications of twin pregnancy.
You'll love this site; it's been a lifesaver for me since that fateful day. Welcome!

Congratulations on your b/g twins! Just eat well, drink lots of water and rest whenever you feel like it. I found out it was twins at about 6 weeks, and have been worrying ever since! So, no matter when you find out, you probably will worry, nonetheless :D This is my first preg. and I can't imagine it any other way. You will be getting more u/s with twins than with singletons!

Congrats on the twins!!!

I found out at 11 weeks, in the ER. Not the best way. If they never drew blood to check your hormone levels, they I can see why you wouldn't know. They did an ultrasound & took blood. They cam back & said you levels are 1000 over... Lets do an u/s. "well, I see two babies, but you need to have it conformed from you OB."

What a shock it can be!

Congratulations! I remember how shocking it was to find out I was having twins (although we found out at 8 weeks). You will go through a ton of different emotions over the next few weeks as the news kicks in. This site has lots of great information on twins. I think that this is your first pregnancy so I recommend reading "Twinspiration" by Cheryl Lage.

Looking forward to "seeing" you around.

Wow, what a way to find out! I found out early and even that was a huge shock that took me months to get over. At least you're over half way there and everything is going well. Be sure to take care of yourself, eat right, get enough rest. Hopefully your doc will start to see you more frequently. Good luck and Congrats! :D

Hi Moinique :wavey:

:sign0016: To TS! IT's a great place for answers, support and friendship.

No, you have not missed anything so you can relax. I paniced when I first found out I was having twins. It's a bit of an adjustment but such a blessing in disguise. You can do it and will be greatly rewared with 2 babies. I found barring any medical problems, the only difference in med care for twins is just alot more U/S and a few more appts later on in the preg.

Congrats on your twins and welcome to the B/G Club!

I was 20 weeks when I found out at my routine ultrasound. The ultrasound tech ran the wand from one side of my belly to the other and started asking why my doctor sent me for an ultrasound....I said why are there 2 and she said yes. I kind of suspected it because I was so big already and I have a huge family history of twins including my grandmother on my dad's side which was a triplet. I was always the family joke that I would have them and sure enough I did.

Turns out my doctor suspected it all along but I was doing so well he didn't want to alarm me or send me in for an ultrasound too early and not be able to tell the sex since my insurance only covered one ultrasound.

I'm sure you are doing everything right. Your OB might up some of your vitamins or add an iron supplement. I was also never considered high risk and never put on bed rest. Never had morning sickness or anything else....I just breezed right through it.

Congratulations! You are in for the adventure of a lifetime!!!!

Yay for you! I am actually going this Fri for an ultrasound to find out if I am having twins or not. I dont think I am, but I want to, and everyone else thinks I am. So we shall see! But, at that time, I will be 22 weeks. Eek. It is so wierd having more than half of the pregnancy done, and then just all of a sudden it all changes. I guess I dont really know how you feel, but hopefully I will. LoL. Good luck! TS is a great source of info, be so glad you found it!

:sign0016: Congratulations! I did find out early on that it was twins (7 weeks) because I thought I was having a miscarriage. It was my first (and only) pregnancy so we were shocked. My pregnancy was uneventful and I had no problems other than bad morning sickness til about 16-17 weeks, but you're past that already. I finished my college degree and worked full-time until they were delivered. I didn't see a peri and I didn't have more appointments than a single pregnancy. She was a great OB and said unless something looked wrong or I was having problems, there was no reason too. I had a c-section at 36 weeks and everything was fine with no NICU time and we all went home 4 days later. Recovery was not hard either, but taking care of two small babies - that was hard! :rotflmbo: In all seriousness, everyone, of course, is different. You should just listen to your body and your doctor. Some women get put out of work earlier and some get put on bedrest, etc. It just depends as nobody is the same. I'm sure you will do great! And you will find out the most wonderful information here and the most wonderful network of people who do understand! Good luck!

Congrats! I found out at about the same time, around 20 weeks at the first ultrasound, and the same way. The odd moment of silence from the ultrasound tech and then "there are clearly two babies in there" as we looked at both little heads on the monitor. I found this site shortly after and it has been a fantastic resource. I thought the whole pregnancy was going to change once there was two but come to find out we just go for more frequent ultrasounds, about every 4 weeks from then, and the office visits came more frequently a little earlier than a single pregnancy. My friend has been pregnant with a singleton and just delivered last week at 39 weeks and we have been comparing notes the whole time and things seem to just the same. Good Luck!

Hey! Congratulations! We have a lot in common! I also found out at 22 weeks--same reason--getting an appointment scheduled. I'm also in Jersey and I have boy/girl twins! I freaked out too and everything has turned out great. Definitely rest and take it easy if you can. I had mine at 38 weeks & they were good sizes so finding out late didn't cause any problems with their size. The only difference with this pregnancy was the extra ultrasounds (I only had one each with my others) and they also kept checking the length of my cervix 'cause it was short at my first vaginal ultrsound. Gotta go--but keep us posted!! Best of luck!!!! :D

I found out at 11 weeks that we where having twins. They could tell from the hormone levels. (over by 1000!)
Also, I was in complete denial when I found out. I have to have it "confirmed" by my Ob.

Way to go!
