Hi Everyone!

My DD has been STTN for about a month now. She will stir from time to time, but generally will STTN just fine.

MY DS was STTN for a few weeks and over the last few nights things have changes. First, for the last two nights and a nap, he soaks right through his diaper...leading to not only a diaper change, but a pajama change. How have you all stopped the leaks?? Clearly, he would sleep longer if his clothes were dry.

My bigger problem is that DS has figured out how to flip from his tummy to his back. Problem is that once he is on his back (usually 4:30am) he just talks and talks and talks. He just will not fall back asleep. I know he can sleep on his back because he does so for naps. So for the last two night, after an hour of him babbling, I'll go in, flip him onto his tummy again and he falls right asleep.

Last night at around 11, he needed a bottle to get back asleep....he hasn't needed a bottle at that hour in a month plus....think it's a growth spurt?

Am I just shooting myself in the foot by going in there and flipping him and by giving him a bottle? Should I just let him talk it out until he falls back asleep on his own? I was so excited about them STTN and my finally getting a few zz's myself that this is just torture.

They are 4 months adjusted....almost 7 months real.

Any advice would be so appreciated!! I have learned so much here and I can't wait to hear what you have to say!
Thanks! Athena

We went through this stage with my DD at 4.5 months, it just ended actually. She would flip over, babble for awhile, then cry, then I'd go in and flip her back, repeat a dozen times and you have our nights/naps. Once I was sure that she could easily roll both ways during playtime, I decided to let her work it out on her own in the crib. I started with the morning nap, where she rolled, cried, and eventually rolled back over and went to sleep. By that night, she figured out that no one was coming to get her and just rolled herself over and back to sleep.

As far as the diapers, we struggle with this too. We switched DS to the huggies overnights (size 3), and make sure to put it up really high in the front. If he wakes at 11 for a bottle (which he does 75% of the time), we go ahead and change him. He still leaks through some nights though, we tried double diapering and it didn't help.

Athena - Congrats on the STTN!! I know when both of my girls start doing it on a consistent basis I will be so happy!!! Anyway, the diaper thing. We had the same problem with my older ds. I don't know what diapers you use. During the day we use the regular Huggies Baby Dry but at night we buy the Huggies Supreme. They are more absorable then the baby dry and he won't leak. If I put him to bed in the regular Baby dry, he'd wet himself. Or you could try going up a size. He may need the bigger size for the absorption.

As far as waking up, your right, he may be going through a growth spurt. As far as flipping him back over, I think I would let him figure it out. If he is just in there babbling and not crying, I think I would let him figure it out.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll get more and better answers from other moms here!!!

The flipping over and not going to sleep on his back should just be a phase, a very annoying phase, but a phase. I remember when my boys were doing that and it seemed like all I did was flip babies all day and night but it didn't last long. As far as diapers my boys would always pee through them and get their sleepers wet. So I would put a size larger diaper on them at night and just make sure it was on tight. The swaddlers always seemed to hold the most for us.

Hi,

I'm not sure about the sleeping thing, I'm not quite there yet. The only thing I can think is a going through a growth spurt?

The diaper thing, I had that problem in the beginning because we weren't pointing his penis down or we used too big of a diaper and it would flop to the side or we just didn't take it tight enough. :D

We've got the hang of it now and haven't had wetting problems for over a month.

This exactly!!! I found that even the Overnights don't work as well as the Supremes do! We still have leaks from time to time, but the supremes still do the best job!

As far as him waking up, would just giving him a pacifier work? If that helps, then eventually, he can figure out how to put it in his own mouth as long as there's one in the crib with him.

Oh lord, I remember the soaking the jammies and sheets phase! I hated it!! Mainly b/c I am incapable of putting a crib sheet on without swearing like a sailor. Anyways, I did several things:
Sized up in diapers
Overnights from Huggies
Size up in Overnights
Point the penis down
LONG bathtime with lots of running water to try and get them to pee (insane I know but I was desperate!)

I promise it will pass, though!

If it were me, I would let him figure out how to fall back asleep on his own. It may take a little bit and you won't get any sleep listening to him but he'll figure it out!

I did the flip back over for a while so they woud sleep. Now they will flip both ways in their sleep and dojust fine. THey will hopefully outgrow it soon. My DS also leaks. Try the huggies they are the only thing sthat holds it. ALso try folding down the front of the diaper, that seems to help.
