I need advise

My son is 4 and has a heart defect, he has had many cath and 2 open heart surgeries. We have noticed a some signs of distress so he went to cardiologist Wednesday and we were told that his valve that had been replaced a year ago needs to be replaced again. The cardiologist told me he would meet with the other doctors and call me withing two weeks or plan on coming back in 4 months....well this morning at 8am he called and said it needed to be done withing 3 months and to talk it over with DH and let him know if we wanted it done before or after the twins. I know in my heart I want to do it before the twins so Hayden can have all of me but also fearful that it will make me go early....I am so sad right now for my little man.

I would schedule the surgery as soon as you can. I know that I would have not been able to do anything else, let alone care for my 4yo recovering from major surgery, during the 1st 3 months of the twins life. Even after that, it's very demanding to take care of twins.

I pray all will be fine with your little boy. May his recovery be fast and uneventful.

I agree, it would be hard to worry about the surgery and taking care of him with newborn twins.

I am sorry that your little boy, you and your family have to go through this surgery.
My friend just went through this with her newborn. The little one had to have open heart surgery. She came through it wonderfully!! I am thinking of you and your little one and sending him positive thoughts and prayers.
Take care of yourself and lean on others through this time. That is what family and friends are all about.

If I may ask what kind of heart defect was your son born with? I only ask this because My DS was also born with a heart defect that he had corrected at 6 days old and will have to be corrected again in a couple of years depending on how fast he out grows the repair. The told me at the time of surgery that it whould be 4-5 years he is 2 years old now and the Cardiologist says maybe within the year.

He has Aortic Valve Stenosis he had one colapsed valve and one very narrowed valve, the have replaced one which his body has already rejected and will have it replaced again on the 25th, he has a pace maker because he get's heart block everytime he has a surgery so it was easier than keeping him in the hospital for longer lengths of time. What does your DS have?

My son has Truncus Arterious which is easier to read about then try and explain so here is a link . http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jht...dentifier=11073
He had a cadaviour artery placed into his heart, but he will out grow this repair and need to have another open heart surgery. He also had a narrowing in the aortic arch that had to be reopened and a PDA closed he still has one open. We have had many hospital stays because of sickness, and this monday he is going into surgery to repair his teeth that he feel and chipped a couple of weeks ago because the denstist said that with all the medications he was on helped his teeth decay.
Hope all goes as planned for your sons up coming surgery.
