I go to check my email for like 2 min, and when i get back to the living room my DD and DS are in my nail polish (which was up high on a shelf, they got to it by dragging a dining room chair over to the shelf) and have poured a black color polish on my carpet. I lost it and yelled at them, spanked them, and put them in their cribs. i am shaking I am so furious. I don't know how I am going to get this cleaned up. I have attached a picture.

I don't know what I am doing wrong as a mom, why they do stuff like this. It isn't cute, it isn't funny, it's dangerous and its making me feel like I am having a nervous break down.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:shok: :faint: Oh yikes! I can see why you freaked out! The only thing I can think of to get it out is nail polish remover. I wouldn't think the carpet (dye/fabric) would be affected by it so it might work, I'd do a test patch somewhere that doesn't show first to be sure though.

 I don't think you have to be doing anything wrong as a mom. They do stuff like that because they're two, and there's two of them so they can give each other ideas and work together. Maybe you could make a room or two super toddler-proof and just have them play in there? Or could you move things around somehow so that you can do stuff like checking e-mails without having them out of your sight?
Don't feel bad, kids can get into stuff so fast. :spy: I think almost everyone's had an occasion when they turned their back for a second and found their child(ren) made a huge mess with the diaper cream/vaseline/talc/whatever. It's practically a right of passage!

hahaha, right of passage. That's a great way to look at it.

they work as a team and do 10X the damage a single toddler would. Its actually pretty impressive.

go to a beauty supply store and get some straight acetone. try it in a corner of the carpet to make sure it won't lighten it and get to work. it may lift a lot of it out, but black on light carpet just doesn't sound like good news. :(

my friend Nora came by after my frantic phone call to her, and we managed to get most of it up with oxyclean and nail polish remover. It's still a bit discolored but not nealry as bad.

So since this crisis has been solved, maybe this thread can turn into a "What's the worst spill, accident, mess, or stain you, your kids, or someone you know have caused in your home?"

Right now, DD colored all over our entertainment center. I swear what one does not think of, the other one will. I am glad that you and your friend were able to get most of it up.

Glad you got it cleaned up!

Mine have gotten into fire place ash (that stuff is a nightmare to clean up), blue tinted sunscreen (all over my bedspread), flooded a bathroom and marked on our flat screen with pencils. :headbang:

 I am so glad you were able to get most of it up! My boys have done so many crazy things (and come VERY close to many, many more!). I think I've blocked most of it out of my head!

The trouble is that what one does not think of the other does. And if that is not the case what one thinks of the other embelishes and they have more "fun". Then there is the ever popular "mom told him not to do it, but, I think that was REALLY a GREAT idea and I should do it. There is NO WAY she meant me too"

Mine were almost the exact same age as yours when they got into my nail polish and spilled it all over my bedroom carpet. In the future, or if it ever happens to anyone else, shaving cream will get it completely up without discoloring the carpet! It's the craziest thing, but I swear it works!!

I have to agree with pp, it's like a right of passage to get permanent color on the carpet.

Here's a couple of things my girls have done that may make you feel better.

They took my wilton color gels and poured them all out on a paper plate and then stepped in the plate and smeared it on their hands and proceeded to walk all over the living room, put their hands all over the fridge, and all over the walls. To this day I still have a huge multicolored carpet that we had to put the recliner over to hide it because it doesn't come out of the carpet. THIS WAS ALL MY HUSBANDS FAULT!![IMG] It literally took my husband a whole day of constant washing walls and carpets to clean it up.

They took all the diaper cream...squeezed it all out and smeared it all over the living room table and proceeded to finger paint with it. Took me HOURS of scraping to get it out of the crevices of my table (but that was pretty funny and I took pictures of that one).

Here's a pic of that one Diaper Cream

Rachel - I remember the diaper cream incident!!

Also there is a cleaner you can get at Lowe's called Krud Kutter - gets paint out of carpets...

mine didn't draw on anything in the house - just themselves...they got into the markers and drew all over each other!

Oh no! This is the exact reason I took the carpet out of the living room! I couldn't keep it clean they would spill everything on it.

I'm glad you were able to get most of it out! I too think we've all been there!

My twins haven't done much (YET)... They got into a huge tub of rolled oats (oatmeal) and got it throughout my entire kitchen and dining room, which is hardwood and it was nearly impossible to vacuum. I'm still finding little flakes of oatmeal LOL.
However my oldest was really into making messes and he used a black permanent marker on my couch, carpet, and the dog.
    Good times :rotflmbo:

 That one drives me crazy! I can't tell you the number of times I've had to say "If I just asked her/him to stop that do you think I want you to start?"

The best messy child story I have involves me and my older sister. I was one and my sister was three, I'd recently had measles and during my nap my sister got into some of my mums red nail polish. She painted 'measles' on the walls, pillow cases and my face. My mum never got it off the walls and she had to throw out the pillow cases, it did come off my skin but apparently left me looking nice and blotchy for a day or two!

Once when I was in the other room for about 2 minutes, I came back to find that my boys had discovered a bottle of continuous spray sunscreen, had sprayed the entire living room floor (it's hardwood), and were skating around on it and having a great time. It was soooooo hard to clean up because it was so greasy!

Oh goodness, the memories! My twins just turned 4 and the disasters have slowed down. I'm glad you were able to get most of the color out though.

My DD is just 16 months older than the boys, so there was a short amount of time when they were mobile, and she still didn't really know better, that the three of them really got into trouble! Mostly it's the boys though. Here's the highlights that I can remember:

*DH was home with them - they got into the vaseline and baby powder. It was all over their room, walls, carpet, cribs, and themselves. We had to hire a carpet cleaning service to get the vaseline out of the carpet.
*DH was home with them - one boy got into the vaseline and lubed himself up really good. It took many hair washes to get the "greaser" look to go away.
*Dad was home with them - he was loading them in the car and didn't know to buckle one in before getting the next. The boys got a hold of the sun screen spray and sprayed the inside of my van. Dashboard, stereo, seats. What a mess!!!!
*murals with poop before we got them in the morning. Nasty!
*I was home with them - climbed on the counter to get the scissors I keep up high. Took them downstairs and they took turns cutting their hair. This was a month ago, so I am not out of the woods yet. My DD had hair down to the middle of her back, she now has an ear length bob. The boys have short crew cuts. Literally took just minutes.

My toilet has been stopped up for about a year cause the boys thought it would be fun to watch stuff go down the toilet.

I agree with everyone else that this is just what tots, and especially what twins do- DESTROY!

I feel like just as a side note that I would have to say that hopefully you don't have a habit of spanking them when you're angry. We believe in spanking in our house, as a method of discipline for certain behavior, but I try to follow the rule of never spanking them when I'm angry.
If I'm really mad at them for something, I have to separate them from myself first, put them in timeout, or send them to their rooms, etc.
Spanking when you're mad is a bad idea, and in my opinion, just not the way it's meant to be used.
I'm not perfect, and I've made mistakes, so I know I need reminding of things like this too. I'm especially working on not yelling...
