I love my Anthony

It's been a rough go around here for almost two weeks. Anthony is recovering from surgery and we thought the catheter was the worst part, but it seems like the care after the removal is taking the cake. My day ended in me in complete tears, once every one had gone home(my mom and sil stopped by). Anthony woke up in bed screaming in pain-again. I ran up and put him on the toilet to pee. He peed a little. I was crying, because the day has just been awful and he spent the better portion of the afternoon crying. While crying, and while he was doing the same, and wincing in pain, he said, "Don't cry mommy." And then he grabbed my head a little bit and kissed me on the cheek.

And I cried some more.

They sure do! And he really is a sweet boy! If he does something that gets dh or I upset...he immediately says sorry...and he means it. He is just too sweet for words...with a grin to boot! ;)

What a sweet, little guy you have

I really hope things start to get better for you both...I am now more thankful than ever that my son will not need a catheter after his surgery. Hang in there

I hope he's not in too much pain while he pees now. Just keep in mind that you have passed the worst part and it will get better every day!!!

that's so incredibly sweet! one of my daughters will do that when I say "mommy needs some quiet time, mommy has a headache" she'll kiss my head and say no more boo boo. Then of course she expects me to not have a headache anymore. but so sweet nonetheless.
Just wondering, it seems as if he's really suffering- did the doctor say this was normal? Because there's a difference between burning with urination and retention of urine after a catheter. I don't know what instructions you were given post-op but I would call the nurse after carefully measuring how much urine he's putting out and ask if this is normal.

Thanks for asking! :) The doctor said it would be painful for 24-48 hours. We are three hours away from 48 hours. He is peeing fine now-because he's going in a pullup(they've all been soaked). I think it's the initial peeing that scares him. And, he's really backed up, and that's not helping either. So his stomach hurts from not pooping, and probably holding the pee in. BUT, I think we are *finally* making progress. He peed on the toilet fine(and he pees fine if not thinking about it, hence pullup, if we tell him to go-freaks out and cries), and he had a bowel movement that was soft and hopefully helped his stomach.

I can't wait to put this behind us!
