But I'm really trying to figure this little guy out! Caleb has tried every baby food there is and NOTHING is working for him. But this weekend we went to a birthday party and DH gave him.....PIZZA CRUST! I know it's horrible that I let him gum at it, but it was the only thing that made him content at the time. Every timehe would soak it enough to break anything off, I would take it away. He seemed to like the taste and even the texture didn't bother him. My question is can it be that he wants to just skip over the puree stuff? It's the texture of the food that really seems to bother him. Some of you recall the picture I just posted with the "poison" face. There was NONE of that when he was eating his little pizza crust. Just pure bliss! Is it safe to start with finger foods and if so, what kind? They made 7 months on the 17th. And while I'm at it, I'll just post a couple of pictures from the birthday party. And yes, that's pizza crust on Caleb's eye:)

:rotflmbo: HaHa! I am not sick of your food posts! I love the stories and photos!

I wonder if they'd like Zwieback toast? I was nervous to give it to our little guys, but they did really well with it and loved gumming it. Just a thought...

Maybe he's ready for "people" food? My oldest was like that. When we started doing purees he had this ho hum attitude but boy-howdy-hold-onto-your-hat once we started chunkier foods! If you're worried that the chunkier food you're feeding him is too thick just add a splash of water to thin it down slightly.

I'd like to say that I think the mesh feeders were wonderful for things like teething biscuits because they couldn't bite off a chunk and choke on it. Just a thought.

Oh but I have to comment on the pics... they are just to darn cute!! LOL

I do agree that purreed food may be his problem. I have one kid that really liked food, my 1st DD, she was on baby food for ... oh an hour or so!! LOL JK... but we really didnt buy much. She went straight to table foods pretty much... but she also had more teeth than any other baby of mine by 5 months!!

I was going to suggest a mesh feeder, too -- just peel and cut up a bit of apple or something, and stick it in there (the Munchkin mesh feeders are good) -- and see if he'll like that.

I do this with mine and they LOVE them, but they're a little slow on their fine motor skills, so they don't hold them very well.

Some babies just don't like to be spoon fed. Mine do, but I've been making an effort to make all of their food at home, and anything that isn't totally smooth has been rejected. Tonight I fed them some Gerber organic turkey/barley/veggie dinner from a jar -- it looked and smelled awful -- and they adored it, and gobbled it all down. Go figure.

Your boys have the sweetest, softest cheeks ever -- I bet you kiss them all day long!!

None of my kids have been big on pureed foods. They are on all table foods, and have been for a few months. I think that's normal (or maybe my offspring are just really weird...) I'd branch out and try some other things!

Thank you, and yes I do. I have to try my hardest not to BITE them!

These sound like good suggestions. I've actually given him bananas in the mesh feeder and he liked that much better than the food, but it was a total mess. What other foods can I put in there. Oh, I tried apples too and both of them hated them. I think they couldn't get enought "out" of it to feel satisfied.

it's not out of obligation, they are just so adorable!!! love the smushy cheeks!!

they won't be any neater in the mesh feeder, but maybe mangos---and maybe you can try steamed carrots...pears are softer than apples, too...and more pizza crust!! LOL

for the mesh feeder I've used peaches, pears, melons. As for finger foods, blueberries are great (they are not part of the berry family, so they are not an allergen) peas, bananas cut up and then shaken in a bag of graham cracker crumbs so they are easy to pick up. For heartier fare the morningstar veggies patties (there are lots of different kinds) are really good and easy to break up. Hope that helps a little to start.

Hi i have to give my comments on the pics, they are adorable. I love babies that look so id. Mine are fraternal and only look alike when they are asleep. he he he.

About the food issue. Both my girls couldnt stand the commercial pureed baby food from the word go. They were introduced to table food soon and loved the texture of the food. They now eat modified table food, oats and bread, and yes they too had pizza. I jsut check that they have no strange reaction to the food and if they ok i continue to give them the occasional Snack like pizza. They eat o shape ceral (called oaties in South Africa made from oats) I think you call it cherios. The eat bread crusts and fresh fruit, we even gave them small bits of chicken and turkey. We still stay clear of fish and red meat. But i give them what they like. And save some good money on commercial food.

So cute!!! Love those big smiles!!!

And my girls have both bitten pizza crust and they are fine :)

As for mesh feeders- I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I'm a totally freak when it comes to solids. I've admitted it.. I'm scared they will choke and I'm trying not to let this impact them and I'm getting better at giving them solid foods. But I do use the mesh feeder as a crutch and the girls love eating food from it. I've done apples and pears (just peeled and cut up so they are hard, but my little teething girls love it). I've also put biter biscuits in it but that makes quite a mess. I'm going to try carrots in it too. I think anything that is too mushy will be too messy and hard to clean out of the mesh.

Oh yeah, I am SO sick of seeing pictures of your cute little chunky monkeys! NOT! :D

I've fed mine pizza crust too, and they liked it. Anyway, mine hated purees in the beginning. One of the first foods they actually ate and enjoyed was just plain whole wheat toast. I'd give them big pieces, and they'd teethe on it, suck on it, gum off little bites. I'd say go for it! You can do toast, waffles, stuff like that... Looks like he's found what he likes!

HOW HOW HOW do you get them to smile for the camera! I just want ONE picture of my boys smiling. Your boys are so cute. As far as the solids if he can pick something up and get it to his mouth on his own he can probably eat regular food. However my experience has shown that once I started giving them finger food, I had a very hard time getting them to eat from a spoon. This created a lot more work for me and feeding them was much more time consuming (they take forever to get enough food in them to fill them up) and I spent a lot of time coming up with ideas for food for them and cutting it up. I know other mommies and their babies have mastered the self feed so they might be able to give better advice. My boys are doing well with it but there are some days where I would love to be able to just feed them and get it done with (I know terribly impatient mommy some days).
