I know this isn't normal but has it happened to anyone else?

Julia is now getting herself on to her hands and knees and rocking forward and back. She's mostly scooting backward right now, but pretty soon I can see she's going to be crawling. The problem is, she's not independently sitting. She will sit if I put her in that position but she's still occasionally falling over and will not get herself into a sitting position. She was 10 weeks premature so I am not worried about where she is developmentally, but I'm wondering if and when she'll ever start sitting.

My DS was crawling months before he could sit! (Probably because his priority has always been GOING PLACES, not sitting still! ;) )

Most babies crawl before they can get themselves into the sitting position, sounds normal to me!

[SIZE=10pt]My two did sit before they started crawling....but it was within a week or two that they were/are mobile and crawling ALL over the place. Sitting didn't last too long. They're too interested in getting places and into EVERYTHING

Yep, my daughter (singleton) crawled before she sat up on her own but it was all in the same day. She crawled and then immediately went into the sitting position like she had been doing it for months.

Mine are doing the exact same thing right now. I wouldn't worry about it.

My singleton was this way. At his 6 month appointment the doctor asked if he was sitting and I said no and she put him in position and he shot across the table trying to get something. She said, "Well it isn't that he doesn't have the strength to sit. He just can't be bothered with being still!!" I bet your little one is the same!

Yes! Jake crawled around 6 months, and didn't start sitting until closer to 9! Emma was opposite, sat at 5, crawled around 8.

Us too.. and actually I never thought it was weird.

Both girls started scooting and crawling around 6-7 months. Meara would sit if we put herself there, but couldn't get into and out of a sitting position until she started pulling up around 10 months old. Ana crawled but wouldn't stay seated if we put her that way. She didn't sit until she could get herself into a sitting position herself which was about two weeks before she started pulling up around 10 months old.

My oldest dd crawled before she sat, but the girls learned to sit up at 7 months if we put them in the sitting position. They could not get in this position unless we put them in it. Then at about 8 to 9 months they learned out to sit up after they would get on their stomachs. Then they crawled at 10 months.

my dd didn't crawl until she was 10 mos old - and was cruising and pulling up before she crawled so yes she was actually cruising before sitting!
