When the boys were born it was easy to tell the apart because Kenneth was a pound less than Ian, had smaller cheeks and a head the size of an apple. At one month they are nearly the same size and i am having real problems telling them apart. My DH will say " how were the boys "?, and ive found myself saying " well, the one in blue has been good, but the one in yellow has been really fussy today ". im feeling kinda guilty about not knowing which one is which often. i mean, i knew they were identicals, but this is insaine. There are no identifying marks that one has that the other doesnt, and even thier cry is the same. Any ideas on how to tell them apart? Could really use some suggestions here.

Kenneth and Ian are 1 month old

I think that's totally normal! We still do that from time to time. Some days, they look exactly alike and others they look totally different. The thing that was the most helpful was keeping their toenails painted. Reese's was green, Riley's was blue and if we needed to check, all we had to do was look at their feet. We did that until they were around six months old. We also tried to look for small differences and we noticed that Reese has a prominent vein near his eye. It's very faint, but if you know what to look for, you can tell them apart easily.

It gets easier, I promise! You'll find that they'll be so different in so many ways and before you know it, you'll hardly ever need to check. :)

i found a nail polish company that uses no formaldehyde or other toxic chemicals and i painted one boy's big toe blue and the other boy's big toe green.

I couldn't imagine how hard that would be. What about an anklet with their initial on it?

PP where do you get that nailpolish at? I wouldn't mind getting some for my toddler. :p

there are a number of toxin-free nail polish manufacturers but the one i went with was nubar. their products are formaldehyde, toluene and pthalate free. i went with baby blue and green tea from the pastel collection.

That is too funny. Don't feel bad. Enjoy the humor in it. One time my dh thought our ds was our dd. Boy was he surprised when he took off the diaper and a penis popped up! Now That's embarassing!

I have this problem sometimes too. For us, Ryan also has a prominent vein on his eyelid. That's about the only way that I can easily distinguish them from the front. Fortunately for us, Liam has a small birthmark on the back of his head, but that is fading away already. I usually dress Ryan in green and Liam in blue. That really helps.

The thing that is driving me crazy now is having friends tell me that they look so different. I'm like what are you talking about? Makes me feel like the worst. mom. ever. If they do look different, it really depends on the day. The chubbier one today is the skinny one tomorrow, kwim?

I don't have identicals, but both my mother and my husband are identical twins. For my husband and his brother, my mother-in-law put anklets on them. I think she kept the on until they were around 18 months!

I've also heard of putting their first initial on the bottom of their foot in permanent marker. Not sure how well that works or how easily it rubs off.
