I just realized I am out of Prevacid!

I must have used the last dose of the Girls prevacid last night, and I didn't even realize it. There is no way that I can get to the pharmacy tonight because DH has my wallet (I forgot it in his car), and my brother is using my car. So I am stuck. :(

Does anyone know if I can give them tums to get through the night? If so, how much? Their reflux is still very prevalent and I know none of us will get any sleep tonight without some kind of intervention. TIA!

TUMS & Prevacid are 2 totally different meds (in the way that they work). Your best bet would be to call your Pediatrician on call for advice. I'm not sure if a liquid Maalox or Pepto or anything like that has any pediatric dosing (I know that kids can swallow Maalox because we used it for mouth sores with Hand, Foot, & Mouth, but it was a very little amount).

If you truly feel they'll be miserable one night without it, I'd DEFINITELY call your on-call doc...and I'd do it before it gets too late. Is there anyone who could run out & get you anything?

Good luck....I'm sooo glad we outgrew the reflux stage!!! I hated it!

When the boys were younger I gave them kids Maalox if I happened to run out of Zantac. I never gave them Tums but that was mainly because we never had them.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but do you have a 24 hr pharmacy that you could run out to when you get your car and wallet back? Maybe your pedi's office could call in another script if so. Otherwise, maybe they'll be ok... I can think of at least a 100 times that Dani threw up her prevacid after I had given it to her and she seemed ok after that. Good luck!

pedi said a quarter teaspoon of Maalox will work in a pinch (DD had acid reflux when we kept having to medicate her with motrin for fevers - she'd wake up burping and gagging in the night)...we didn't have actual reflux from eating though...

    Maalox works.

It might be a good experiment though. When I weaned Maia at 1yr, she got it every other day for a little over a week and she was fine.

I don't think that drug is an instant cause-and-effect kind of thing. That's why it takes a few days to kick in when you first start using it. So hopefully they have enough in their system to last them. Also, I think the drug actually assists in the healing process, so hopefully it has worked to heal some of the initial damage caused by reflux so they won't be as bad if they're off it for a day. Best of luck. I'd give them pillows to keep their heads elevated if they seem miserable.

Their pedi called back while I was giving them a bath and I missed the call, so I did a little online searching and ended up giving them Maalox (after I consulted with DH and he talked to a Dr at the hospital). It seemed to work. I am going to get their meds today.
