    HELP!

My babies are almost 10 months old and we are backtracking on the sleeping through the night and they are only taking two 30-45 minute naps a day if I am lucky - they both wake up crying with a burp or spit up and won't go back down even though they are still tired!

I tried CIO to get them to sleep back at 7-8 months, it worked like a charm for DD - not so much for DS (it gave him anxiety, and he became ultra clingy so I stopped).

Okay, but they were sleeping through the night for almost a month solid. Then we got our first cold and it was nasty - all schedules went out the window. During the same time DS cut both his top I teeth...so that makes 6 teeth for both of them and I think we're done with teething for a while (a girl can hope anyway).

NOW, I am up EVERY NIGHT between midnight and 4 am with one or both of them. They BOTH act like they have tummy aches. I got all of 45 minutes of sleep between the two of them last night and maybe 2 hours the night before - WHAT IS GOING ON?? I will get them sound asleep either by walking or rocking, put them in their cribs and they both roll/flail around and stick their little bottoms up in the air and then start screaming again! This makes me lean towards the conclusion it is gas, but I burp and bounce and massage...NOTHING - no burps or tooties! They fall sound asleep again, I put them down AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS!

I have tried gas drops, gripe water and feeding them 4 oz of water in hopes to soothe their upset tummies to no avail.

They both have reflux (STILL) I took DD to a GI specialist last week and we have an upper GI scheduled next Friday. OH and get this - he prescribed Zegrid (sp?)...I had read about it here on the boards and asked my pedi about it - my pedi told me I shouldn't believe everything that I read online and that Zegrid is for adults and really only another form of Prilosec! APPARENTLY NOT! So, I will be looking for a new pedi ASAP! The Zegrid is finally ready (they didn't have the correct amount in stock so they had to order it), DH went to the pharmacy to pick it up 10 minutes ago.

I can't let them CIO because I know they are waking because they don't feel well - they are just as tired and irritated about being awake as I am. I just can't figure out if it is gas or reflux or WHAT??

I haven't changed their eating habits, in fact I stopped using combo solids and went back to regular stage 2 fruits and veggies. I had started giving them Gerber Puffs and Cheerios as well, but I stopped giving those thinking maybe they were having a hard time digesting them??

I am at my wits end - and I feel like they are 3 weeks old again. Everyone I know has these happy 10 month olds who take 2 hour naps and sleep 13 hours at night, NOT MY KIDS! Has anyone else experienced this at this age?? If so, what did you do?? TIA!

    Barbie, first [IMG]s.
Second, you definitely need to see that GI Specialist and get that upper GI done.
Third, I have 7.5 month olds and I will tell you, they are definitely not that happy all the time, never take 2 hour naps and have been waking up at least once a night a piece (Kevin has been two almost every night [IMG]) I definitely know where you are coming from! It does seem like everyone has these extremely happy great sleepers! And I would love to sleep one night full, but I am pretty sure that is not going to happen any time soon.

All I can say is, eventually, they will start sleeping, even during the day. My oldest stopped taking short naps and started sleeping through the night definitely by 18 months!

I'm sorry your going through this right now! It is no fun at all. I had mine sleeping through the night for about 2 weeks before RSV shot that all to heck [IMG]. The last 3 weeks have been awful. I hope that the doc can find something going on, at least that way you know you are not imagining something...everynight when mine wake up I second guess myself if something is really wrong or not...kwim?

I hope you get some sleep soon - just know there are other 9 monthers that are not great sleepers [IMG]

Yes...I am right there with you. I have one dream child that loves to go to bed when she is sleepy - and you have to actually look at the video monitor to see if she is awake because she rarely makes a peep when she wakes. AND THEN...she has this sister...ugh! [IMG] She was also a pretty decent sleeper until about 9 mos old. Now she is much like you described. She also does the hiney straight up in the air thing. I actually hadn't considered gas. I thought it was just her thing - sometimes she does it but doesn't act upset. And, she always sleeps with her legs up under her - hiney up. She also had reflux pretty bad until about 6-7 months - 99% better now. She was not a fussy or upset refluxer.

I have actually chalked her night wakings up to teething (none have broke thru yet) and becoming mobile. Once she starting crawling, she almost immediately started pulling up on everything. I have heard that big milestones can put a wrench in sleep patterns???

She has had several good nights and nap days over the last couple of weeks. (She got the flu and actually slept the best ever!) I don't know about you, but the utter exhaustion that I have felt over the last couple of months has been worse than the first 2 months that they were born. I was so upset after a night like you had last night that I told my DH I was going to have to either get some kind of prescription or go to a hotel for a couple of days because I thought I would lose it!! She actually slept thru 4 days in a row right after that...she does love me! Hang in there. Hopefully your four days will come soon. Stephanie

    Sarah and rheamay,
Thank you for giving me hope and letting me know not EVERY other child is an angel at 10 months!

    Stephanie,
I am sorry you are going through this as well! I know, the hiney in the air and knees drawn up under them...I assume it is a tummy thing, but who knows??

I will let y'all know what we find out at the upper GI!

I believe that excessive drool from teething can cause tummy aches. FYI

My twins are only 7.5 months old, but I DO know what you are going through! One twin is back to being a good sleeper after getting a tooth in- finally! The other twin...well...she is backtracking as well. Both of mine have reflux, and we justed started Prevacid (lowest dose) a week ago. Things have become pregressively worse each night...until a couple of nights ago, she was waking up screaming and something was definitely wrong. She would not even fall asleep with me holding her in my bed. Last night, she started screaming within an hour of putting her to bed. Finally the fourth time, DH held her on his arms, face down, and she immediately went to sleep of course. He gently laid her in her crib, on her tummy, her tush went into the air, and she SLEPT until 5 this morning! At which time, I fed her and she did not wake up until 8am!

So, my advice is to put them on their tummies and see if this helps. Last night, we tried that to begin with as well as the extra dose of Axid. Tonight, we just put her on her tummy and no extra Axid...so far so good!
