and they told me that you must WET the nipple first, before inserting into the ring. Then screw it on. The "overtightening" thing is for OLD nipples/bottles. The trick w/the clear dome is also for the old ones - the newly manufactured ones must be WET first - that's supposedly the trick. I'll find out at 5:30, lol. Just wanted to pass the info. on.

This is very helpful info!! I was going nuts with this every feeding. Let us know if it works, I'll try it to.

There was a post about this not too long ago, and whoever it was, had called the manufacturer as well, and they told her to tighten the top using the plastic cover, and when it was tight enough, the cover would start turning. Sounds like they are giving quite a few different answers for the same problem!

If I remember correctly that person called Babies r us or some other store. That person told them to use the dome, but that's for older bottles.

Hi. I am a new mother of twin girls. they are two weeks old. I have had the exact same problem with leaking Avent bottles! I will try your advice....I was really let down that the Avent system did this, considering I spent a decent amount of money on it. thanks for the tip

I used Avent bottles and I found it did help to put the bottles together when all parts were wet. When I did that they didn't leak. Good luck!

I would NEVER recommend Avent to ANYONE!!! I hate their bottles but because we have like 20 of them, I have continued to suffer for 11.5 months. I also called Avent and they sent me a bunch of the newer nipples that can be overtightened. They told me to wet not only the nipple but also the inside of the ring but sorry to say...it has still been a freakin hit and miss deal. Sometimes they leak and sometimes not. The only thing that has really worked (somewhat) is to change the nipples after a while (although that can get pricey). I think I used them for too long and perhaps the rubber of the nipples wasn't as hard? Or, perhaps washing them again and again in the dishwasher ruined them. I don't know but it has been a huge headache. Actually, I never had a problem with the 4 oz bottles, just the 9 oz ones. Strange, huh?

Actually, one day I decided to read the directions that came with the bottles/nipples--hey it was 5 years ago ;) --anyway, it says there about keeping them wet. What I would do is just wash the bottles and assemble them right away. Once I actually read that, I never had a problem.

Yep, I read the directions many months ago too, and that's where I learned to wet the ring and nipple before assembling. No more leakage! :)
