Ok, so maybe I am lucky but here we are at 16.5months and I have never had to deal with real puke from the twins, until tonight. I put DD to bed and she started crying about 10minutes later, I figured she dropped her blankie, so I went to check on her and she had puked all over her bed and all over herself. So I cleaned everything up and got a few things ready just in case it happened again. Then I went to check on her again about 30minutes later, and it all seemed fine, and then suddenly she started heaving again, and so I just held her as she puked all over me. So, I cleaned her up again, at this point i gave up on bed sheets and just put a big towel over her mattress pad (this way if she pukes again I can just change the towel). I checked her temperature and it didn't seem high but I gave her tylenol and a few sips of water and put her back to bed. So, here I am thinking, gosh I am "lucky" that it is only one sick child, theni go to check on DS and he is sleeping in a big pile of puke! Ugh - so I do the same routine with him. Neither one of them had a temperature, and they seemed to go back to sleep really well, they must be exhausted. And, of course DH is away in another country until Friday morning, so I get to deal with this all on my own. I am in tears right now... What do/can I do for them?
Is this a flu or a food poisoning thing? Just in case it is food poisoning I went thro the fridge and threw out everything that they ate today, even the crackers! I am not sure what to expect tonight, but I am guessing that sleeping isn't in the cards for me...not even sure I am going to try and sleep....when do I take them to the dr? If they aren't eating tomorrow?

I would call the doctor and ask what you should do. Try to keep them hydrated with little sips of water, but only if they can keep it down.

Just wanted to say I hope they are feeling better. I agree w/ pp about calling the ped and trying to offer a little bit of water. I also made ice pops w/ 99% water and a splash of apple juice/pedialyte when my boys were under the weather. They kept them busy and hydrated at the same time. And being that they are not full of sugar, they aren't too messy for the high chairs. Just keep more towels around....
Let us know how your babies are doing! Good luck to you!!!

Thanks guys - it is 10pm right now where I live and the kids are fast asleep (I just checked them and DD had a little pile of puke about the size of 3 quarters), and DS didn't have any, so maybe that is progress. I am going to let them sleep tonight ( hopefully they sleep!) and if they are still sick in the morning I will call their ped, or if things get bad tonight I will be rushing off to the ER. I like the popsicle and pedialyte idea, I think I may need to go and buy some popsicle forms tomorrow. Ok, I am off to see if I can get any sleep...although it just seems like when the kids are sick and I am alone I don't sleep well myself.

Oh no! That sounds terrible. I wouldn't give them any more water or food for the time being! I haven't dealt with puke yet so I don't have any BTDT advice but I hope you have seen the last of it!

What you did was great. I do the same thing when mine are sick. I just make a pallet of receiving blankets/towels so each time they get sick I just remove the soiled one. I dont sleep when mine are sick either because I dont want them to be sick alone. I feel like I should be right there, and as what happened with your DS. . .sleeping in the puke. My DS would do the same thing, and thats gross, so I would want to make sure to clean it up right away.

Personally I dont take my kids to the Pedi if they are just vomitting for a day. Mine have never had a fever with a stomach bug. . they will get the vomitting and/or diahrrea. I would take them to the DR if it goes on for more than 2 days or so.

The water/pedialyte popsicle was a good idea. The B.R.A.T. diet is just bland foods to offer and see if they keep it down. Bananas,Rice,Applesauce,Toast. . so those are some ideas for the morning.

Good luck and stay strong. I have a vomit phobia. . I hate puke and even more when there is more than one sick child.

I hope they are feeling better. If it is a stomach virus, stay away from all dairy. About 2 months ago they both had rotavirus and I foolishly thought they were doing better and gave them yogurt for dinner. They both vomited for a good 2 hours later that night. Stick with the BRAT diet for a few days and see how it goes. I would also give them pedialyte.

Someone on this board had a great idea as far as the crib sheets. She said to layer them so when they get sick, all you have to do is peel off the sheet and crib protector and you'll have another set right under. I have 3 sets on their beds right now just in case. It actually works out well on a daily basis if their diapers leak. This way I'm not spending time having to change their sheets; I just peel them off and toss them in the wash.

I had heard the bedsheet idea and thought it was a good one, but didn't have the time or energy to put extra bedsheets on, so I just layed a large towel overtop of their crib sheet and each time they threw up I grabbed the towel out and put a fresh one - it actually worked quite well!

Thanks for all of your ideas and support, they both actually slept through the night without any further vomiting, although I didn't sleep because I kept waking up to check on them. I will stick to the BRAT diet today and not give any milk as well - thanks for those tips! Hopefully things are better today. I was crying on the phone to DH last night, because I am just so tired of being here alone when the kids get sick (the kids have been sick a few times quite badly and its always when he is out of town). So he has said that he is sending me with a girlfriend to Hong Kong for a one week break in August, I can shop, sight-see and basically do whatever I want for an entire week. I am so excited, at least I feel I have something to look forward to, it almost makes today bearable.

Keep it up!!! You are doing an awesome job under your stinky circumstances. Yeah for a vacation!!! What a wonderful place to visit. It's great that your DH is so understanding and supportive of the fact that it's really tough doing it all while he's away! ;-)

That must have been awful for you having them both being sick. I hope they are 100% now. You´ve been doing a fabulous job under hard circumstances so well done! KUP with how they get on.
